Avatar f tn old and has been to the hospital twice in two years w/ severe abdominal pain. The first time they performed an ultra sound and confirmed she had a cyst on her ovaries-told her it would burst eventually. The second time which was approximately one week ago they did not do an ultrasound, but told her the pain was due to a cyst on her ovaries. My concerns are could she have ovarian cancer-one of my friends daughters died at the age of 27 due to ovarian cancer. Please advise.
Avatar n tn Up to 14% of women that have gone through menopause get cysts. There is a wide range of normal for size of ovaries. Ovarian cancer is hard to predict and size of ovaries is not used to do so. But what prompted this question? Are you having issues with your ovaries? Or did you have a concerning exam?
1364266 tn?1292973465 s as a guide to determine if you have the most common form of ovarian cancer, approximately 80% of all ovarian cancers are epitheal ovarian cancer which is cancer of the cells on the surface of your ovary. Please keep in mind that CA-125 can be elevated if your menstruating and some other cuases of inflamation.. There are other types of ovarian cancer that are hormone driven and depending which form a person has there will be excess symptoms of that specific hormone.
Avatar f tn They can form anywhere in the body. Ovarian cysts (sists) form in or on the ovaries. The most common type of ovarian cyst is a functional cyst. Functional cysts often form during the menstrual cycle. The two types are: Follicle cysts. These cysts form when the sac doesn't break open to release the egg. Then the sac keeps growing. This type of cyst most often goes away in 1 to 3 months. Corpus luteum cysts. These cysts form if the sac doesn't dissolve.
Avatar n tn Cysts in the ovaries are sign of PCOS. There is no known cure for PCOS. I have PCOS too. Doctor will put you on BCP to regularize your periods if you are not ttc. Usually they put you on metformin that takes of the cysts to some extent. What treatment are you going through?
3100626 tn?1341387176 IBS pain can often feel like gynecologic pain or ovarian cyst/fibroid pain so is often confused with these problems. However, if your recent ultrasound didn't find any ovarian cysts or problems with the ovaries or tubes, then your pain may be more related to the bowel than the ovaries. You still should continue to see your gynecologist to follow this and be sure. Furthermore, you should consider seeing a gastroenterologist as well as they are physicians that can help with bowels.
Avatar n tn There is a regrowth pattern with ovaries it is called Ovarian Remmanet Syndrome May I suggest you to the forum for ovarian cysts there you will get the answers you need, there are other women there that have ORS any small piece of the ovary that is left after the surgery can regenerate the tissue and cysts can grow on them. This needs to be followed up because ovarian cancer can also be generated from these growths.
Avatar f tn Marcy First off if you are worried about ovarian cancer it is extremely rare on both ovaries. If it were on both ovaries it would have spread more and be clear on the ultrasound that it was cancer. 98.6% of cysts are not cancer. A normal woman has a 1.4% chance of ovarian cancer in a life time. It is lower if you are younger. If you had the BRCA gene, women in your family with early ovarian cancer the chances are 20%. If your Gyn is doing a cystectomy that is great.
Avatar f tn re ovulated from both ovaries or you may have some tiny benign cysts. I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). Basically I have tiny cysts on my ovaries and I would feel crampy and feel ovarian pain, especially around ovulation time, but I wasn't ovulating. I am currently taking medication for it and I don't feel ovarian pain/discomfort anymore.
Avatar f tn Polycystic ovaries can be misinterpreted as complex cysts. The reason for this is that the cysts in PCOS are a cluster of simple cysts that can give the appearance on imaging as one (larger) cyst with septations. However, most ovarian cysts, tumors and masses are benign / non-cancerous. Ovarian cancer is rare but, sadly, typically has a poor prognosis mainly because it isn't diagnosed early.
Avatar f tn I had a TVU 3 days ago which showed thickened uterine lining and cysts and fluid on ovaries. I am 49 and perimenopausal with a family history of cancer plus my own breast cancer. I had an endometrial biopsy and await the results and will have a pelvic MRI tomorrow. I am just curious if there is a relationship between the thickened uterine lining and the cysts and fluid on the ovaries. If you've had this experience or know the answer, I'd be so grateful.
Avatar n tn hurts when i twist at the waist and at night lying on stomach the pain in the right side is unbelievable without something hard under the hip in the front. thank you!
946578 tn?1258663287 t think you could feel ovarian cysts through your skin unless maybe they are very large, or the ovaries themselves are enlarged (?) What kind of doctors are you seeing, any specialists?
Avatar n tn Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses. Because the ovaries are affected on both disorders, the some of the symptoms can be similar.
367100 tn?1330914725 thanks michell ur information is really got me relax. thanx alot.
Avatar f tn I had both ovaries but I have the BRCA mutation and I had cancer in 14 places. They could see the cancer on the ultrasound. Over 98% of ovarian cysts are benign. What does your doctor say. You could have Polycystic Ovary syndrome which is not cancerous.

Pop on over to the Ovarian Cyst forum and post this over there..
Avatar n tn Hi there. It is possible the pain could be due to cysts. I've never heard of a connection to coffee though. Do see your gyn and have a transvaginal ultrasound to be sure. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Get thee to another gyno for a 2nd opinion. Every woman on here can tell you that those symptoms can definitely be due to ovarian cysts. The enlargement could be due to an internal cyst or another issue. Take a look at the health pages and you can see the lists of symptoms. Good luck. Please keep us updated and a pox on your gyno.
1350342 tn?1294537338 The good news is that your cysts are very small. 9mm is less than 1cm. Cysts do not become worrisome until they reach 5cm or greater (50mm or greater). So, I think you are ok. Your doctor may prescribe birth control pills to help shrink your small cyst. Otherwiese, it will likely go away on its own. I would try to preserve your ovaries and work on regulating your hormones. It is unlikely that this will impair your fertility! Best wishes!
Avatar f tn I have cysts on both ovaries and they are becoming quite painful. does anyone else have this or know what to do?
Avatar m tn Breast cysts are usually easily defined by mammogram or ultrasound. Ovarian cysts are not related to breast cysts or to cysts in any other part of the body. Regards ....
Avatar n tn m 46 and just had a hysterectomy for bilaterial ovarian cysts. I actually had 3 cysts and all were benign. Remember 95% of all cysts are benign. Best wishes to your friend.
Avatar f tn Hi! I find often that women who have chronic pelvic pain are talked into believing that 1-2 cm cysts are causing their problems. These cysts are normal and are almost always present on every woman's ovaries. I hope this is not what your doctors are talking about too! Your problem is a difficult one--chronic pain in the pelvic area, and believe it or not, often results from some sort of major physical/psychological trauma that becomes worse and worse over time.
Avatar f tn Ovarian cysts can cause ovarian enlargement and the majority of ovarian cysts are benign. Did you have a scan to determine if you have visible cysts? Most cysts go away on their own. If this persists for you, you may want to talk to you doctor about the possibility of your having an underlying condition like PCOS or endometriosis. But, even with these conditions, the majority of women are still able to conceive.
