Ovarian cysts lead to cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian cysts lead to cancer

Avatar f tn It looks like you might have endometriosis which could make your CA125 higher. Endometriosis is not cancer and does not lead to cancer it is basically an over growth of tissue. You can go to a GYN oncologist they don't just do cancer but complex surgery. Many will just take one or both ovaries because it is easier than removing cysts. Or you can get a second opinion with another Gyn. You have time.
Avatar f tn i am 44 and currently going through menopause. my hormone levels were checked and confirmed. i haven't had a period in 6 months. now i developed cysts on both ovaries and they are very painful. there are no signs so far for cancer. my doctor wants to remove the cysts. i'm o.k. with this, but he wants to remove my ovaries at the same time. he said they are not really working anymore. i will have to go on hormone therapy. i'm afraid, i've heard so many conflicting reports.
Avatar n tn I agree with Cindy that it is very unlikely to be Ovarian Cancer. However, young girls do get cysts. Actually cysts are very very common in young premenopausal women and 95 % benign. You may want to check the top right of this page; "Health Pages" . It has a lot of information about cysts . Of course we don't know if she even has cysts. And.. we're not Drs. here.. She really needs to be seen my by a Gyn. It could be one of many things.
Avatar n tn Hi! This isn't the doctor's forum, honey; you might want to repost it, but I wanted to let you know that cysts are benign most of the time even if they're complex. Your cyst is small still anyway, but even if it were big, chances are slim it would be cancerous. Are your periods normal? Cysts can cause a lot of pain and discomfort, but don't let that lead you into thinking you have cancer. Worrying is the worst thing you can do to yourself.
Avatar f tn But if this could be cancer, the endo specialist is not the one to go to. I will have details on size of cyst and wall thickness of it later today after I pick up my report and hopefully I will be getting a 2nd ultrasound with gyno. to confirm and get second opinion. Any info would be helpful on septate/complex cysts. So scared about this. Can you have this many symptoms and have it be benign??
18454502 tn?1465007523 Unless you have the BRCA mutation. Close relatives with Ovarian cancer before the age of 60 you have a 1.4% of ever getting ovarian cancer. The next step for the ovary is a transvaginal ultrasound, 98% of ovarian cysts are benign. They are very common and can cause pain. Most resolve or go away on their own. Most doctors if they find one will watch and see if it goes away. I think you have a lot of unrelated things going on. None of your symptoms point to ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn Have they done CT of your abdomen and pelvis, or an abdominal or transvaginal ultrasound? Possibly what he is talking about, with the cancer, is that some ovarian cysts are cancerous. It is a lot less common for it to be cancer tho. If they have done the CT or ultrasounds, how big is the cyst(s)? Are they fluid-filled, or do they show some type of debris, or septation? To give any more clear answers, we would need more information.
Avatar n tn When they get too large or if they have suspicious qualities (something that could lead to cancer), removal is recommended, sometimes urgently. Under the most normal circumstances, cysts go away on their own.
Avatar f tn I had one simple cyst on my right ovary that was discovered in August of 2016, but was told it was fluid filled and a follow up ultrasound would be done in November. I had that ultrasound and nothing came of it - not grown and still fluid filled. Due to my mother passing away from Ovarian cancer I do get pelvic ultrasounds every year.
Avatar n tn No, size of ovaries is not related to your risk for ovarian cancer. This site does a good job of laying out the risks: https://ocrahope.org/patients/about-ovarian-cancer/risk-factors/ Is there a particular reason you're concerned?
Avatar f tn A smooth walled cyst with no solid components means it's probably fluid filled. It's size is about the size of a small lemon.Have you had a follow-up with your gyn to go over the test results? Cysts are very normal , especially in pre-menopausal women. Depending on it's type, size, your age, and other factors, your doctor could opt to do a " watchful waiting" over the course of a few menstrual cycles to see if it resolves on it's own.
Avatar f tn If they were really worried they would send you to A GYN/oncologist. 98% of ovarian cysts are benign. You could still see a Gyn/oncologist. A high WBC would lead me to look for infection. I am just someone with Cancer not a doctor.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much as of course I am immediately thinking ovarian cancer. I haven't seen the doctor yet but managed to pick up the MRI report so have been reading it and googling it. The abdominal MRI mentioned that there is early non specific diffuse early enhancing pattern of the liver may be seen with underlying hepatic venous congestion... when I read that and looked in google it seemed that it could involve some heart issue which could lead to fluid...
Avatar n tn Most ovarian cysts and masses are benign, even suspicious looking ones. If you do not have a family history or predisposition for ovarian cancer then your lifetime risk is less than 2%. And yes, the CA125 test is not accurate at diagnosing ovarian cancer. Benign (non-cancerous) conditions can cause an elevated result. A friend of mine had a CA125 level over 1000 (VERY HIGH) when she had a benign cyst. She unnecessarily lost not only her ovary but also her uterus and other ovary.
498596 tn?1210700259 Good moring I understood that there is no useful prevention test for ovarian cancer. But my question is> could an ecography detect a 1st stage ovarian cancer if done every four months (as I usually do) or the cancer has to be already spread to be visible?
Avatar f tn s just weird that I have had so manycysts throughout can this all lead to cancer. My 5 nodules measuring 5mm i have one more month before they do an ultrasound the funny thing is my blood work was all normal but the ultrasound found the nodules plus it's pretty enlarged. I'm not sure what to do next who to go to, oh and I have fibromyalgia on top of all this I feel depressed.
Avatar n tn First off, you need to get a transvaginal ultrasound to find out what is going on in there. If there is a cyst it is possible that you are feeling the pain more in the morning because your bladder is full and putting pressure on it. Over 95% of cysts are benign but should still be checked out to ensure they don't twist or burst. Please do give us a follow up on the Ovarian Cysts page once you have been to a doctor.
Avatar f tn If you are not BRCA positive you have a1.4% of ovarian cancer. 98% of cysts even big ones are benign. I think if you have had 3 transvaginal ultrasounds the cancer would show up by now. It spreads to other organs and the omentum. They can see that on an ultrasound. If the doctor was thinking cancer they would send you to a Gyn/oncologist. I was sent the day after my ultrasound. I am BRCA positive.
Avatar f tn If you do not have a family history of ovarian cancer, then these are likely benign. Plus I have read that ovarian cancer usually does not present on both ovaries at the same time. In the U.S., a woman's lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is less than 2% if she does not have a gene mutation / family history. The characteristics of complex cysts can give a clue. Do you by chance have a copy of the scan report?
Avatar n tn has anybody gotn surgery for ovarian polic cysts?
Avatar f tn I have researched about ovarian cysts and cancer trying to find out what are the best treatment options. Also, I had a second opinion and this doctor told me that with a laparoscopy it would be enough. At the same time, I am worried since I have no kids and if they remove everything I can't have any. So that's why I have joined this site and try to find some answers. Thanks for your help and I'll let you know what happens.
Avatar f tn Your recent findings are definitely a concern. It is absolutely too long to wait until March. Are you in the US? If so, you need to find a gynecologic oncologist. Any large, complex mass has a chance of being malignant. But, even benign cysts that are as large as yours run a greater risk of rupture. This could lead to further complications. So, it is important that you get prompt treatment. Unfortunately, the CA-125 test will not tell you if you have a benign or malignant cyst.
Avatar f tn If you have these cysts on both ovaries, that is another indication that it is PCOS. Ovarian cancer does not typically present in both ovaries simultaneously.
Avatar n tn Although it is possible to have ovarian cancer at a young age (I was 26 when I was diagnosed) having cysts does not mean you will get cancer. Many women have harmless ovarian cysts that never progress into anything... Having cysts does not mean you will have cancer. It is a good idea however, to keep an eye on them because even harmless cysts can grow and cause other issues. If you have concerns, you should definatley consult with your doctor about them...
Avatar f tn 4% chance of ovarian cancer. It is lower if you are under 50. Also it is rare to have ovarian cancer in both ovaries. It happens but it is rare. I had both ovaries but I have the BRCA mutation and I had cancer in 14 places. They could see the cancer on the ultrasound. Over 98% of ovarian cysts are benign. What does your doctor say. You could have Polycystic Ovary syndrome which is not cancerous.
Avatar m tn I had cancer in 14 places now I have it in one because of treatment. I have friends with all kinds of cancer and I feel lucky to have ovarian. I have been in chemo for years and my only symptom now is I get tired. No one knows what life holds. Many cancer scares are just that scares. You have to take it one step at a time. The oncologist is the one to listen to.
