Functional cysts often form during the menstrual cycle. The two types are: Follicle cysts. These cysts form when the sac doesn't break open to release the egg. Then the sac keeps growing. This type of cyst most often goes away in 1 to 3 months. Corpus luteum cysts. These cysts form if the sac doesn't dissolve.

After hours of tests and ultrasounds, they finally came across a complex cyst 4.5 cm in diameter. The GYN put her on birth control and the unbearable pain seemed to be getting better until yesterday. Avatar n tn We can still get cysts in our ovaries even at 58! What did your doctor say? Do you know that ovarian cancer is actually a seeding type of cancer quite often. This means it is small but a lot of it and that is why it is a problem. Think of it as like sand blowing in the wind. It can cover an area. Different than like one big mass. You can have epithelial ovarian tumors. These are often benign (non cancerous) but doctors normally biopsy to make sure.

21064 tn?1309308733 Another little quirk I've had today - if I read a message then click on "back to forum" sometimes I end up on a completely different forum. I was at Ovarian cysts and it took me back to Ovarian Cancer. OK, that's not so far away. Then I was on Ovarian cysts and it popped me over to Undiagnosed Symptoms. I didn't even know there was such a place. Is it just because they're working on the site and we're getting shuffled around a bit?

Avatar n tn Hi There, It sounds like you need to get a repeat ultrasound to see if the ovarian cysts have gone or are persistent. The estrogen level may reflect where you are in your cycle. It would be interesting to see what the repeat value is. Ultimately if you have a persistent or growing ovarian cyst and have pain and discomfit, you should ask your doctor about whether a diagnostic laparoscopy is appropriate to consider.
Avatar n tn Cyst just means fluid with a skin over ti - think of a blister. In PCOS, the cysts are ovarian follicles. that means , around each egg cell there is a circle of cells called follicular cells that produce hormones. Those cells help mature the egg. Every month one egg is selected to mature and to ovulate - that is to pop out of the ovary. In PCOS, ovulation rarely occurs but multiple egg cells with follicle cysts around them develop.
Avatar m tn Ovarian cysts are common and almost always benign (non-cancerous) including ones that have some suspicious traits. A woman's lifetime risk of ovarian cancer (OC) is less than 2% (1.3% per U.S. government statistics). Imaging is not exact and doctors have to cover their bases hence the reason for saying malignancy cannot be ruled out. Biopsy is the only way to know for sure Erratic bleeding is pretty much the norm during perimenopause.
Avatar f tn This is likely just an ovarian cyst and could be an indication of the Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome cysts returning since it sounds like you are no longer on birth control. Also, after cysts resolve or rupture, they can leave some lingering pain or discomfort for weeks. Hoping you feel better soon!
Avatar f tn Yes, you can still develop new cysts in the future. Pregnancy has a way of stabilizing hormones and reducung the occurrence of cysts. Six months after surgery sounds like more than enough time to recover enough to conceive. How easily it can be done depends on your own fertility and his. There are fertility and pregnancy forums on MedHelp where you may find some advice in that regard.
