Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian cysts in pcos

ovarian-cysts

Avatar n tn Cyst just means fluid with a skin over ti - think of a blister. In PCOS, the cysts are ovarian follicles. that means , around each egg cell there is a circle of cells called follicular cells that produce hormones. Those cells help mature the egg. Every month one egg is selected to mature and to ovulate - that is to pop out of the ovary. In PCOS, ovulation rarely occurs but multiple egg cells with follicle cysts around them develop.
Avatar f tn Polycystic ovaries can be misinterpreted as complex cysts. The reason for this is that the cysts in PCOS are a cluster of simple cysts that can give the appearance on imaging as one (larger) cyst with septations. However, most ovarian cysts, tumors and masses are benign / non-cancerous. Ovarian cancer is rare but, sadly, typically has a poor prognosis mainly because it isn't diagnosed early.
Avatar n tn Polycystis Ovarian Syndrome was named for the appearance of the ovaries (which often are bumpy looking with lots of cysts on them), but it is certainly not the only symptom. It is important to understand that just because a woman have ovarian cysts doesn't mean she has PCOS. Blood work can help to diagnose PCOS. The cysts that appear with PCOS are a result of egg follicles not fully maturing or being released.
Avatar f tn With the high testosterone and glucose levels as well as the ovarian cysts, it's possible she could have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which is a metabolic disorder of insulin resistance. Cystic ovaries are a common manifestation of this disorder. The typical presentation of ovarian cysts associated with PCOS is a strand of pearls which cannot always be differentiated as separate cysts on ultrasound. These types of cysts do not require treatment.
Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with PCOS? This condition causes the acne, weight gain and cysts. It is important to follow up with your doctor to see if you have this condition. It may help you avoid future cysts if you get treatment now. Often, hormones can be out of balance without PCOS and it causes those same symptoms. Usually, birth control pills are recommended to try to get your hormones regulated in cases where your system is out of balance.
Avatar f tn I only assume I have PCOS because my hormones are out of whack and I have ovarian cysts. My symptoms have been going on for 10+ years and no doctor ever diagnosed me with this condition or even mentioned it. I have been struggling for the last 2+ years with severe health problems and was recently diagnosed with insulin resistance (metabolic syndrome). Make sure your doctor is very informative about this condition. Ask lots of questions.
Avatar n tn Although it’s not known for sure whether benign ovarian cysts or polycystic ovaries develop into ovarian cancer, the vast majority of ovarian cysts appear to be unrelated. Women who have polycystic ovaries or ovarian cancer seldom have obvious symptoms early on. However, in both disorders, symptoms are noticed as the condition progresses. Because the ovaries are affected on both disorders, the some of the symptoms can be similar.
Avatar n tn Cysts in the ovaries are sign of PCOS. There is no known cure for PCOS. I have PCOS too. Doctor will put you on BCP to regularize your periods if you are not ttc. Usually they put you on metformin that takes of the cysts to some extent. What treatment are you going through?
1131112 tn?1321040173 I know that many women get married with ovarian cysts and with only one ovary. Sometimes having an ovarian cyst may throw your hormones off and cause problems with your period. You best bet would be to see your gynecologist and sit down and have a long talk with him/her. Hopefully someone who has more experience with PCOS will come along and be able to give you more advice. Good luck!! Prayers!
Avatar f tn s possible you could have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which is one common cause of missed periods as well as ovarian cysts. PCOS is a metabolic disorder that is associated with insulin resistance but one of the classic traits is ovarian cysts in a "strand of pearls" pattern which can typically be seen on ultrasound. Other common traits are excess body and facial hair, tendency to gain weight, oily and/or acne prone skin and high testosterone levels.
Avatar f tn Having abnormal bleeding and had a pelvic ultrasound, I got the results back and the Dr. said I have an ovarian cyst. I follow up in 6 weeks to re-check. Anyone out there have this problem?
Avatar m tn ve got a cyst causing you trouble. With PCOS, chances are you will have more troublesome cysts in the future. I have PCOS also. It sounds like, your doc is hoping the birth control pills will resolve your cyst. It is common to try birth control for a month or two for certain types of cysts. I have actually had large painful cysts that had to be removed surgically. I hope the Junel does the trick and your feeling better in no time.
1298207 tn?1331677531 PCOS causes cysts, hence the name "polycystic ovarian syndrome". Most of the time, these cysts won't do you any harm as long as you take care of them. I have PCOS in its early stages, showing no cysts yet but I go in every so often for ultrasounds that monitor if cysts are forming. Many women I've talked to who get the cysts have them surgically removed. Your doctor will look at the cysts and decide whether or not to do surgery.
1295419 tn?1276822872 In the last 8 weeks I have had 3 ovarian cysts rupture. The first two were shortly before my period started and caused intense pain which landed me in the ER. The last was yesterday, which was also painful and a trip to the ER. I haven't started my period yet but I assume I will soon. I had one other ovarian cyst rupture in my lifetime which was about 6 months after going off birth control and 6 months before getting pregnant. I have so many of the PCOS symptoms.
Avatar n tn I didnt ask any questions on Density of these Cysts Etc as i was in shock. I was informed tho that these did not look to be PCOS and this was what she was going to say in her report. I now only have a MRI to go untill all my Tests have been carried out but i do not have my appointment with endocrinology to Discuss what happens next untill November 18th.
Avatar f tn If there is a necklace of cysts this is a clear sign of pcos. Treatment for pcos is in tablet form or you can have surgery to blast the cysts. Treatment is effective so don't worry, but you do run the risk of a multiple pregnancy. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Someone I know recently has been diagnosed with ovarian cysts and is experiencing heavy night sweats. She is only 33 years old and is wondering how to relieve her symptoms.
6387286 tn?1389639786 t ovulate and thus cannot become pregnant. Hence it is luck that you have become pregnant. Please carry on with the pregnancy. Ovarian cysts mostly are not treated during pregnancy unless they’re large enough to cause pregnancy complications. Large ovarian cysts measuring 6 centimeters or more are removed surgically preferably during the second trimester and that too through laparoscopic surgery.
Avatar f tn I suffed from ovarian cysts since I was 14.. I'm 34 now and have just been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome.. though I haven't had a cyst that has caused me pain or discomfort in years.. The best thing to help combat and minimize the occurrence and severity of an ovarian cyst I found was exercise!! The release of serotonin somehow helps.. but I've become an avid Zumba goer and not only did it keep the cysts at bay, but it's a lot of fun..
Avatar f tn t believe your dr gave you clomid if you hae pcos.
Avatar n tn You might be given medication to help you get your period if you have irregular periods, since that helps in shrinking the cysts. Good luck and please don't hesitate to ask your doctor lots of questions!
Avatar m tn If the cysts look like a "string of beads" you could have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Other common traits of PCOS are excess body and/or facial hair, oily and acne-prone skin, being overweight or tendency to gain easily, irregular periods (I think they say 4 or less periods per year). Another possibility is endometriosis which causes pelvic pain and can cause ovarian cysts.
Avatar f tn After a few months I was diagnosed having PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) with multiple cysts in both ovaries sizes ranging from 38-40 mm. I started taking Dian-35. I took it for 3 months and went on a diet. On my fourth month my menstrual cycle was on time but I still gained weight. My TVS showed that my cysts persist and they remain the same size, no improvement at all, my doc said it's very likely that I won't be able to lose weight and that I should have a child ASAP.
Avatar f tn I think it would be wise to see your gynecologist and ask for a transvaginal ultrasound to rule out ovarian cysts. They can cause the symptoms you describe. He/she may be able to prescribe some medication that will help regulate your hormones or shrink the cysts. Also, have you had your blood sugar checked? You should ask your doctor about the HgA1c blood test rather than just a fasting glucose.
Avatar f tn PCOS by themselves are not harmful, but for the symptoms (pain, cysts etc).
1356258 tn?1277664250 I had several ultrasounds before my gallbladder removal surgery last year, and they said that my ovaries looked normal (gyno always says they feel normal, too). So is it possible to have PCOS without ovarian cysts? Would they be visible on an ultrasound? Do the cysts come and go? Or from the ultrasound can I rule out PCOS and focus on other possibilities? I wonder if I have Cushing's syndrome, as I also have what I think is a buffalo hump and my face may be moon-shaped.
