Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian cysts in mri

ovarian-cysts

Avatar f tn 1 cm. A few small subcentimeter left follicular ovarian cysts are identified. There is no longer evidence of previously described 2.0 cm complex left ovarian cyst. The right ovary measures 3.8 x 2.0 x 4.0 cm and contains a thick walled complex right ovarian cyst measuring 3.4 x 1.4 x 4.0 cm. This was not noted on prior MRI examination. Clinical correlation and close follow-up is recommended. Small amount of free fluid is noted within the cul-de-sac. Impression: Status post hysterectomy.
Avatar f tn I have had ovarian cysts for many years that have been watched by my DR. The last US showed a Right ovarian cyst does not show overall clear change in size compared with 5/7/2015, but today shows what appears to be a new echogenic mural nodule measuring 0.5 cm. MRI is suggested.. What does this mean? I'm scared to death...I'm 65 and on the Kidney Transplant list and One more problem is all i can take. Could someone PLEASE explain this to me. And advice on what I shou;d do.
Avatar f tn I have a cyst on my left ovary that was large so they repeated in 2 months and it had grown, so my Dr. had me get an MRI which it had still grown, so she sent me to an OBGYN which sent me for another ultra sound and did the CA125 test and OVA1 test (which be careful because my insurance is not covering it) 17 is my result and a 4.3 on the other test.
Avatar f tn I tend to get cysts all the time - ie kidney cysts, ovarian, fibrocystic breasts , cysts on my back. But the mri reported didn't suggest any special follow up to it and I am not sure what to think. I'd love some ideas. My kidneys could be inflamed due to the cysts and stones but don't know if that would affect the pelvic area... Thanks for any ideas.
Avatar n tn MRI following an ultrasound is not routine, no. Checking back 3 years is not routine, either. I don't understand the logic of that at all. The only time I've heard of doctors checking previous films was to check previous mammograms, not previous ovarian ultrasounds (at least not 3 years back). It's not just the sizes of cysts that matter, what about the nature of these cysts?
Avatar n tn A transvaginal ultrasound (TV) is the most valuable diagnostic study in the evaluation of an adnexal or pelvic mass/suspicious cysts. Cysts, hemorrhagic cysts, endometriomas, and dermoids have a high predictive diagnosis via TV ultrasound. An MRI is usually the next test that should be given as they are more precise when read by the right radiologist.
Avatar m tn I am 32 years old and was found to have a simple ovarian cyst in Oct 2012 during a routine MRI for my Desmond tumor that was surgically removed in June 2012. I have had MRI s every three months to follow both and the cyst was stable at 3cm from Oct 2012 until Sept 2013 and the last six months it grew to be stable at 4.7 and 4.8cm. I have experienced some discomfort. Treatment has been to continue to observe but I am concerned it is persistent and moved anterior on this last scan. Suggestions?
Avatar f tn You should follow the recommendations of your doctor. In general, complex ovarian cysts are initially followed by repeat ultrasound; for example, 4-6 weeks or 6-12 weeks. If not improved/resolved on follow up, then consider MRI pelvis.
Avatar n tn I recently had an mri for leg/hip pain which ended up being an enflamed tendon. The mri also reveals two small cysts in the "left adnexa" measuring 1 cm in size. The RN at the orthopedic office said it was my ovary. Should I be concerned about this and see my gynocologist? I had a hysterectomy approximately 15 years ago and am 58 years old.
Avatar f tn I have had an ultrasound and MRI that indicate an ovarian cyst (6cm, 4cm) in my left ovary. OB/GYN suggests oopherectomy and testing cysts during thsi surgery to determine if more would need to be done. MRI shows septations and Ultrasound mentioned something about possibly internal papillary projections. MRI offers no definitive answer...just possibility cyst could be a hemmoragic cyst, an endometrioma, or cystic neoplasm.
Avatar n tn i had a mri for hip pain and it came back with ovarian cysts and bone cysts is there a connection?
621010 tn?1221508226 I was diagnosed in feb with multiloculated cysts after having a CT scan in the ER due to diverticulitis. Again I went to the ER for diverticulitis and a second CT scan was done and it showed the cysts are larger and they said that malignancy couldnt be ruled out. Well the thing is, these ct scans did not get to my Gastro dr until I called the ER to have them sent to him, which was on 9/10/08. I go to to my GI and he tells me that I need to go to a gyn-oncologist, because I have ovarian cysts.
Avatar f tn Lets hope the pelvic MRI goes well. Having cysts on both Ovaries points to them being benign. It is rare to have Cancer in both Ovaries. Are they doing the MRI to cut down on radiation? They always do CT Scans on me.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, complex ovarian cysts can occur from puberty to post menopause age. So, really, no one is exempt from this type of cyst. There is not a specific age range for these types of cysts. But, most occur in the 40's and 50's. A transvaginal ultraound, CT or MRI can help determine the size and type of cyst.
Avatar f tn A couple of things to remember, GYN/Oncologists treat many benign conditions, they are experts with 3 years additional training, also, they do not spend a big chunk of their time on obstetrics. Ovarian Cancer is a very rare disease. Most ovarian cysts are benign. Ovarian cancer can only be diagnosed through a biopsy. The best thing to do is try to relax, and wait for the answers before panicing or even before researching....
Avatar f tn Very few cysts (including complex ones) are malignant so the odds are very much in your favor. Most cysts resolve on their own, no treatment needed. Some cysts that appear to be complex on imaging are actually multiple simple cysts which give the appearance of one cyst with septations (hence complex appearance). 5 cm is still on the small side and it seems in most cases this would warrant monitoring it via periodic ultrasounds.
Avatar n tn t feel it is related in any way to my prior cysts. Most of the time, those who have cysts do NOT get ovarian cancer. That is just my experience. Good luck with your MRI. This test will definitely give you more information about your cyst.
Avatar f tn Most MRIs of the abdomen also shoot images of the pelvic area, and if they did, then it would have shown ovarian cysts if they were there at the time of the MRI. However the best test for diagnosis is an ultrasound. So as your gynecologist has advised you can get a repeat ultrasound done. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn and my most recent pap smears have come back clear. The problem is - I have have two 4-5cm cysts in each ovary which have been there for many years with no signs of shrinking or resolving. Gyn observed from the ultrasound that they are simple cysts and non cancerous but then said she could go in and remove them if I wanted them gone. I know HPV increases the risk of cervical cancer, can it also increase the risk for ovarian cancer or persistent ovarian cysts?
Avatar f tn Multicystic mass identified in each adnexal region, up to 5.3cm in right and 6cm in left with thickening of septations bilaterally. A hyperechoic nodule was visualized in the endometrium with flow, 1.1cm suspicious for endometrial polyp. A small amount of fluid is noted in the cul-de-sac. MRI: This is what the report says : Axial T1 water excitation precontrast images were obtained followed by T1 water excitation post gadolinium contrast images in sagittal, axial and coronal planes.
Avatar f tn I think with my family history of ovarian cancer (my mom died at 78) and with the complex cysts that have blood flow my mind is automatically jumping to ovarian cancer. I am very scared. My Doctor has called in a requisition for an MRI, and I am waiting to get a call back to find out when - but was told it could take 2 weeks or a month depending.
1666478 tn?1303226690 That is when they did another u/s and found that I have 2 cysts on my left ovary. Now I am going back in May for yet another u/s to see if anymore cysts have developed. I do still suffer with endo, unfortunately it does not have a cure. In October I am most likeley getting a hysterectomy and having one ovary removed as well to help with all of the problems I have been having since last June.
