Ovarian cysts and what they mean

Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian cysts and what they mean

Avatar n tn it cannot be normal to get as many cysts as consistently as i do. what does this mean; should i be worried; and what do i do from here?
Avatar n tn you have cysts and they should go away come back if pain persists. Well I went this last time in 08/07 and they said that I had a cyst that wanted to watch and to go back in 30 days. I went back and now the cyst had collapsed and there is some free pelvic fluid. The right ovary contains an "echogenic linear structure measuring 2x0.4cm." What does this mean? I have recently had a lot of pain in lower abdomen and lower back. I was nauceous for about 4-5 days.
Avatar m tn the urine sample was clear and the bloods showed theat my hormones were a little out but nothing huge. I then started having scans and they discovered a cysts. this cysts had then completely gone by my next scan but I now have a hemaroiid cyst on the other ovary. my really bad pains I usually got on the 26th of each month when I didn't come on my period and when I came on I wouldn't get one.
Avatar n tn The one on my left side appartently has a blood flow and from what I can tell that is not usual. Should I be very worried? And what does it mean?
362408 tn?1236444681 Ive had it since my M/C in Nov and as of yet they havent gone??? What can i do to help get rid of them anything? Will i not conceive until they have gone?
Avatar n tn They are a natural consequence of monthly egg development and ovulation. That is why they come and go. If they are under 4-5 centimeters, they should not be causing pain. Hemorraghic (a form of complex) cysts are nothing more than a simple cyst which ruptured to release an egg, then reclosed and filled with blood (also can happen often). Small amounts of free fluid in the cul-de sac is also normal. If you are having pain requireing narcotics, a source needs to be found.
Avatar m tn thank you Binx. You make me feel better. But the cysts won't go? Is that your experience or what they told you? What about later in life - ยก will that effect having children?
Avatar f tn My breasts and especially my nipples are very sore and hurt, like I am nursing a baby, but no discharge from them. They appear red and sore. So with that I ask you, does ovarian cancer give early symptoms of hair loss and breast nipple tenderness? Everyone seems to be stumped as me and would love to find an answer - I always in the back of my mind worry about ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn my hormone levels were checked and confirmed. i haven't had a period in 6 months. now i developed cysts on both ovaries and they are very painful. there are no signs so far for cancer. my doctor wants to remove the cysts. i'm o.k. with this, but he wants to remove my ovaries at the same time. he said they are not really working anymore. i will have to go on hormone therapy. i'm afraid, i've heard so many conflicting reports. i still have my uterus (so far that is still fine). what should i do?
Avatar n tn They are specialists in womens gyn issues and have seen everything. Although 99% of ovarian cysts are benign, you are wise to seek medical attention. Kudos to your dr. for making sure you get the trans vag us on a yearly basis! You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Avatar f tn I my incision is hard and very lumpy. They ordered a pelvic CT and pelvic ultrasound and vaginal ultrasound. They found two 1 mm cysts on my left ovary. 5 weeks earlier On 11/27 I had my Pet scan and 3 days prior a CT. Both NED. I had a colonoscopy and also NED. They wantedt to wait and see if they changed in two weeks times so I have a new ultrasound scheduled for next week. i have read alot of posts and seem that ovarian cysts are very common and especially after chemo.
Avatar n tn There is no way to tell if it is cancerous with out surgery. It is a very good thing you are seeing a Gyn/Onc. If you have surgery, they would be the best Dr for the procedure. If you feel uncomfortable with the wait and see approach, talk to the Dr and maybe seek a 2nd opinion. An elevated CA 125 does not mean there is cancer. My numbers were always out of the "normal" range but my cysts were benign. What kind of cysts does he suspect? It's so hard to wait!!!! Keep us updated.
Avatar n tn I never had any issues there before this entire cancer thing. I know they say your risk of OC is increase when having BC and decreased when on Tamoxifin. Confusing - just don't want anymore medical issues - I had never been sick until 1.8 years ago and now I do nothing but go to the doctors - any thoughts? also, do you think they are going to want to biopsy the cyst that is complex?
1294482 tn?1354492888 She says it hurts so bad she cannot do anything. I had cysts when I was younger, like 10-15 years ago and they always burst on their own. This one she has seems to be stubborn. It is only 2.4 cm big but she cannot get into a dr. The Dr refused to see her yesterday because she doesn't have ins and the hospital set up the appointment with the OBGyn. My struggle is a couple of things, how long do they usually take to burst or how long do Dr's usually give them to burst before they do surgery?
Avatar n tn The only thing that BC pills do is stop you from cycling, to try and give the cysts you already have a chance to reabsorb. However, they will only reabsorb if they are simple or hemmhoragic cysts. Anything else has to be removed. I'm astounded at your gyn... he just wants to do a hyster without finding out anything??? That's just nuts. It's like he's telling you that 'oh, you have a cyst, let's just remove your entire reproductive system to get rid of it'. It's just overkill!
Avatar n tn I am in my early to mid thirties and have three beautiful children so fertility is not a concern. What worries me is if my ovary has to be removed what will that mean as far as menopause and all that goes along with it? There is a part of me that just wants to have the remaining ovary removed so I won't have to go through this again nor risk ovarian cancer later in life. I had all my children via C-section so this will be my fith incision.
Avatar n tn I went back and the lining of my uterus was normal but the ultrasound tech said I had a lot of cysts on my right ovary and a few on my left. When I went back for a consultation with my gyno she put me on birth control and said to wait 3 to 5 months and if the pain was unbearable we would discuss surgery. It has been 6 weeks and the pain seems to just get worse and move all around. I have pain on my right side (upper and lower abdomen) and horrible pain in my back and right leg.
Avatar f tn Even benign tumors can cause problems if they burst and they are more likely to burst with increased size. Hang in there!
Avatar f tn This was done a month after the MRI but the part that I do not understand is the (Markers are present on the right ovary) what does this mean? Please help, my nerves have been tangled for 8 months and now they are just shot :( This discussion is related to Transvaginal ultrasound results.
Avatar n tn GI problems are a common symptom of ovarian cysts. I would highly suggest that you get a 2nd opinion from a gyn/onc. They are specialists in womens gyn issues and have seen it all. You should not get the run around with a gyn/onc. Although 99% of ovarian cysts are benign, you need medical attention. Do not ignore your symptoms. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Avatar n tn Secondly, ovarian cysts do not mean that you will lose the ovaries. They can and do save the ovaries quite often. Make sure you are really open with your doctor about how badly you want children. Many cysts do resolve on their own. It all depends on the type of cyst. You need to trust yourself and trust your doctor. Ask lots of questions. Next time you go in, take a list of every single question you can think of. Then go down the list and ask every question and write down every answer.
Avatar f tn In January of 2009, i had emergency surgery for an ovarian cysts on my right ovary. Apparently the cyst was 5 inches and twisted around my ovary. After the surgery, i had no pain up until June of that year. I had many ultrasounds done that confirmed i had small cysts. In April of 2010, i had laproscopic surgery to have a look to see what was going on. The doctor told me after that my ovary had dropped down due to a cyst and that my right tube was blocked.
Avatar f tn If this is endometrioma, does that mean the endo has regrown in there and this is one of many spots when they open me up? Or can they develop independently without the presence of endometriosis? I had it all cleared out by a specialist and the only thing I can think of, is if it was in my uterus at the time of c section, spreading it when baby was delivered almost 17 months ago. Thanks for any insight. I appreciate it. Here is what the ultrasound report said: Uterus: The uterus measures 6.
Avatar n tn I haven't seen a question about ovarian cysts and menopause. I have cysts on both ovaries, but my main symptoms are extreme bloating (I look pregnant) and weight gain. All the weight is in my abdoman--I don't seem to be bigger anywhere else and it's making me really uncomfortable. I am really short and have went from 110 to 137 and still gaining. I have had a CT scan (which is how they found out I have the cysts) and have an ultrasound scheduled next week.
Avatar n tn On the other, I'm still frustrated, because NONE of the doctors that I have seen know what is going on and they don't seem to take it seriously. Like so many of you, I have had severe abdominal pain, frequent need to urinate, bloating and constipation for several years. At times I'm convinced that I have a bladder infection because of the need to urinate and pain, but generally the test comes back inconclusive.
Avatar n tn The only way to truly determine if is malignant is to have it (and by it I mean usually they take the ovary unfortunately) removed and biopsed. No I don't think it would be scar tissue from previous cysts. I believe that it appears differently on scans but I don't know for sure. I know that ladies on here such as Dian are going to post soon, and they are going to tell you to get to a NEW GYN/ONC immediately and not wait. I would agree. Keep us posted and very best wishes..
Avatar m tn Hi Nancy, Did an OB/GYN give you these results (not the ultra sound tech or nurse)? They should have given you some sort instructions in terms of follow-up. I would be worried too if they just gave me information and didn't explain it to me. Assuming you are dealing with an OB/GYN could you call them and ask the questions you have? I know it's scary sometimes, but you deserve to have all of your questions answered. In the mean time: Mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn excellent info from the ladies above i pray u peace on ur quest for knowledge and strength of body and soul love sharon
