Avatar f tn Have you been diagnosed with PCOS? This condition causes the acne, weight gain and cysts. It is important to follow up with your doctor to see if you have this condition. It may help you avoid future cysts if you get treatment now. Often, hormones can be out of balance without PCOS and it causes those same symptoms. Usually, birth control pills are recommended to try to get your hormones regulated in cases where your system is out of balance.
1046985 tn?1305117048 Has anyone got any advice, or stories of hope. I have heard that ovarian problems can cause weight gain, and that its almost a given with menopause, aaargh..
Avatar f tn I,m worried about being plunged into the menopause over night and also wondered whether anyone else has noticed increased weight especially around the midrife..and i also have a pain between my shoulder blades around the bra strap area which really hurts??
Avatar f tn I work out regularly and I eat well. I had noticed weight gain over the last few months but I attested it to stress and lack of sleep. I had been having sharp pains once a month that would last a couple days but I knew nothing of cysts so I didn't think it was the problem.. But now I'm thinking I've been having rupturing cysts since May. But I'm now 125lbs and I just feel pregnant! I can't duck in the swelling!
Avatar n tn I have, however, recently been having very bad back pain and weight gain. My doctor said that the cysts are not the cause of this but these posts indicate that the cysts may cause these symptoms. Should I get the cysts out and if so, the ovaries too? I am 49 and can't have kids. What awaits me if I get the cysts and ovaries out. Will menopause be any worse than the lower back pain with the cysts? Thanks for any help.
Avatar f tn pattern which can typically be seen on ultrasound. Other common traits are excess body and facial hair, tendency to gain weight, oily and/or acne prone skin and high testosterone levels. But an endocrine problem could also be to blame such as thyroid, pituitary or adrenal. A "general" or "reproductive" endocrinologist would be the best suited to doing the appropriate testing. Best of luck. Keep us posted.
Avatar f tn So I have looked up symptoms of ovarian cysts and one that caught my eye was weight gain. Has anyone ever gained weight because of cysts? I can not seem to lose any weight. I wonder if the cysts are causing this?
Avatar f tn I had the Depo-Provera contraception injection in january, and since that, my symptoms have become alot worse, and ive suffered with persistent bloating and weight gain. But im still unsure as this could be water retention due to the injection. I've heard this injection has been proven to cause ovarian cysts, is this true? I was just wondering, if someone could identify with my symptoms? And how i would go about getting a screening, as i am only 18?
Avatar f tn Turns out I have ovarian cysts, 3 or 4 - the largest being 4.9cm and an enlarged ovary. However, she says my weight is nothing to do with the cysts and that I should go on a diet and do plenty of exercise - if its normal weight it will come off, if its not, it won't! Urghhhhh! What do I have to do to get her to realise that this weight gain is NOT normal for me regardless of the fact that I've just hit 41! Any suggestions anyone?
6745164 tn?1391806591 Hello, There are several reasons why a woman have delayed menstruation and this could be due to unhealthy diet, stress (emotional or physical), sudden weight gain or loss, caffeine, alcohol, and smoking. Gynecological conditions like polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and uterine cysts or polyps, can also bring about alteration in menstrual cycle. However, pregnancy is still the most common cause of delayed or missed period.
Avatar f tn I am now 1 wk 4 days post surgery and the weight gain has remained. I too want to know what to expect. Will this weight gain continue?
Avatar n tn Common things being common, fibroids, which are benign muscle growths of the wall of the uterus, can give you pain and heavy bleeding. Ovarian cysts can be related to ovulation, or benign growths, endometriosis and so on. To sort that out, usually repeat scans are obtained over 3 to 6 months to see dynamically how the cysts come and go. Depending on your age, birth contorl pills are commonly tried to control heavy bleeding and pain.
Avatar n tn Ovarian cysts are common and usually go away on their own. They can cause symptoms of pain or discomfort and can also affect the menstrual cycle since they alter hormones. Some women always have cysts on their ovaries. There's something called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) where the ovaries contain cysts in a "strand of pearls" pattern.
Avatar f tn Its actually 2 diff things, one causes symtoms ie weight gain, hair growth in unwanted place, spots and of course cysts infertility and lack of a proper monthly cycle, whereas polycystic ovaries without the sydrome do not give you symtoms.
Avatar n tn I am 22 years old with no family history of these types of cysts. I was just told today by my gynocologist that I have a 6 cm complex ovarian cyst with that is nodular. I wasn't expirencing any pain until about 3 Sundays ago (right before my period). He told me that there is a worry for ovarian cancer but they won't know until they do surgery and take it out. I am so nervous and so scared that it will not be benign.
Avatar n tn i have pcos also, and that was the best one i have found so far. and i also didnt gain any weight with it. i would do some research on it, but that was the best one that i was on!!

363110 tn?1340920419 I have been on other hormonal BC and have gained weight. I was on Mirena and did'nt gain weight, but i had some other bad side effects. By the way two of my sister-in-laws have mirena IUD and have not gained weight for the almost five years it has been in. Good luck, but research it good. I know it works really well for a lot of people it just did'nt for me.
Avatar n tn my last two have been super light and almost painless. Her answer to that was my body maturing. And the weight gain is simply my body finally reacting to my birth control, which I have been on for almost two years.
Avatar f tn I was never one to gain weight - could eat everything and as much as I wanted without gaining a pound. Since my hysterectomy, my hunger "mechanism" does not work properly. I rarely feel hungry and do not have a sense of fullness either. But I no longer have an appetite so I eat much less. I have therefore been able to maintain my normal weight. A lot of foods just don't taste as good either except sweets.

Avatar f tn What showed was ovarian cysts and a small amount of fluid located in the middle of the pelvis. These were determined to not be a threat. I called my OB/GYN about the results, he looked them over and said they were normal for a woman my age. I am 43. Now, I have a pretty bloated lower abdomen and midback pain on the right side and some occasional nausea as well as weight gain. I have an appointment with a doctor to get a check up in a week. I am kind of freaked out.
Avatar f tn i am 43 as well i had indigestion, change in urinary habits, change in bowel habits, and towards the end i had nausea and no period and about a 16 lb weight gain that went away post op ... one was 10 cm and the other 5 cm when they found them on a TVUS... and i had all of it removed (called a tah/bso) ... i adopted the attitude (that i learnt from the other women here) to keep pressing the docs, seek a second opinion and don't worry until someone tells u its time to worry :) ...
Avatar f tn Hi, I am 44 & had an Endometrial Ablation & tubal ligation when I was 27. Pre-op, I had menstruals that lasted for months (my last period lasted 62 days); constant lethargy; hair loss; dark circles under eyes. Saw my ob 16x in 10 mos (full exam) & he continued to switch my birth control as he advised that I needed more hormones.
Avatar n tn m 37, 4 kids, have been having some crazy symptoms and have been looking at so much info online about of fibroids, ovarian cysts, and ovarian cancer. All of these seem to have very similar symptoms. Obviously,I should just go to the doctor, but I'm worried and would like to know anyone elses opinion on this. Ex : Is there any specific symptom out there that I'll know is a huge red flag for cancer?

Avatar n tn I have been dealing with abdomen pain (which at times can be quite severe), lower back pain, right hip pain (in the groin/joint area), fatigue, weight gain, constipation, and pain when having a bowel movement. I was referred to a GI specialist who ordered a CT of the abdomen and pelvis. The only thing that came back was a "4.9 cm well defined, thin walled cystic lesion at midline in posterior culdesac?...possible GI duplication cyst?....unclear....endemetrioma is not excluded....
