Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian cysts and risks

Avatar f tn I am sorry you are going through this. I had an ovarian cyst and wish my gynecologist had taken a conservative approach. Instead, I was rushed into surgery and over-treated. Scar tissue is a real risk. And there are other risks such as losing the ovaries and their life-long vital functions. Or even if the ovaries are not removed, the surgery could affect their function.
Avatar n tn Also be mindful of your diet, there is a link between insulin resistance and ovarian cysts. It is best to stay away from processed white flour products like bread and pasta, and the worst culprit is of course sugar.
Avatar f tn After multiple tests (ultrasound, ct scan and MRI) I was told I have complex ovarian cysts 5×4 cm on both ovaries and pancreatic cyst that is over 1cm . I have 2 questions. 1. Since I very much refuse and will be refusing contraceptives , how else naturally can I cure ovarian cysts? 2. Can acidic taste in my mouth with coating on my tongue and lower back pain be due to pancreatic cyst?
Avatar n tn I think possibliy you mean ovarian cysts instead of ovarian fibriods as fibriods are assoicated with the Uterus and ovarian cysts are associated with the ovaries.
Avatar f tn The "mixed solid and cystic lesion" sounds like a complex cyst. MOST ovarian cysts, even complex ones, are benign (non-cancerous). And the "no internal vascularity" is an indication that it is benign. I would think the lack of inflammation is also a good sign as well as the lack of fluid in the pouch of Douglas and "no adnexal masses or cysts." The dimensions "51 x 45 x 39mm" converts to "5.1 x 4.5 x 3.9cm.
168348 tn?1379357075 I have MSK which is Medullary Sponge Kidney and many times the question comes up if there is a corellation between MSK and Ovarian Cysts. Same holds true with thyroid patients ... many ask oftentimes if there is an association between Ovarian Cysts and Thyroid conditions. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I am CL of the Thyroid Disorders and post on the new MSK (Medullary Sponge Kidney) Community ..
Avatar f tn Hi, I understand your concern and it is important that you talk to your gynecologist and weigh all benefits and risks. While surgery is used to treat all stages of ovarian cancer and has been shown to result in a higher success rate, additional diagnostic tests may be requested to check for surgical indication. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I too have Ovarian Remnent Syndrome...and have had re-curring cysts in the pelvic area. I too am an Ovarian Cancer survivior, stage 1A. I too have cysts on my kidneys. Now, all that being said, I have had a total of two surgeries and although there are more cysts...the doctors are not too keen on a 3rd sugery because of all the risks. The doctors have also mentioned that some people are just cystic and develop these things....doesn't mean that it is cancer.
Avatar f tn Also, are ovarian cysts related to ovarian cancer? I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts while in my 20’s which went away on their own with no treatment.
20263614 tn?1493744183 My cousin told me a few days ago, after I was sent to the hospital by my Doctor. After tests and image care, ovarian cysts and an ovarian torsion was revealed on my right ovary. The hospital tried to remove it that night, but I refused and I want to know more... What happens when you remove an ovary? This is all making me feel like less of a woman. My partner is understanding, but this is freaking him out. Tomorrow I go to get "explored" (BLEGH!) for cancer and other things...
Avatar f tn I have had problems with Ovarian cysts since highschool. mine get really big and instead of going down they keep growing and rupture. it is the worst pain i have ever been though. make sure that it doesnt happen to you by talking to your doctor and get them checked out. so i have been on the pills to stop this from happening since sophmore year of highschool. i am 19 now and i just found out last week that i am pregnant. i am off the pills but i am afraid of cysts.
Avatar f tn Do you have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and miss a lot of periods? Other than that, I have not heard of ovarian cysts increasing risk of uterine cancer (or ovarian cancer). Have you tried birth control pills to try to prevent the cysts and regulate your cycles?
Avatar f tn They wantedt to wait and see if they changed in two weeks times so I have a new ultrasound scheduled for next week. i have read alot of posts and seem that ovarian cysts are very common and especially after chemo. If they stay the same can they biopsy my ovary and the cysts before removing the ovary. Or should I just bite bullet and have them take it out? More chemo? What's next.
1227504 tn?1267283544 I too had a hystorectomy 8 years ago and left the ovaries, and I do not have a uterus or cervix either. About 6 weeks ago I was diagnoised with at 1.8 x 2.5 cm cyst on my right overy. At first they thought it was a endometrioma cyst but then had another ultrasound 4 weeks later and it showed my cyst had grown to 4.5 x 5.0 cm and my GYN does not think its an endomtrioma cyst but a hemohraggic cyct (sorry don't know how to spell it).
Avatar f tn Hi, Sorry, I don't know much about the "Mirena".. What does your Dr. say about the cysts? How were they found? You might check out the top right of this page "Health Pages" . It has a lot of information about Ovarian Cysts. Cysts are very common in younger women, but you must ask the Dr. about the IUD /Mirena. I truly have no idea about that.
Avatar n tn Up to 14% of women that have gone through menopause get cysts. There is a wide range of normal for size of ovaries. Ovarian cancer is hard to predict and size of ovaries is not used to do so. But what prompted this question? Are you having issues with your ovaries? Or did you have a concerning exam?
Avatar f tn The lab technician told me that they were most likely blood cysts from endometriosis. She said that it was pretty common and not to worry about it. I was however on the pill the pill at the time and therefore shouldn't have had them as I hear that the pill is one of the way to treat this condition. My cysts were not followed up since. About two months ago (I am now close to 36 y.o.), during a routine pap smar, I asked my doctor if it is possible to check on those cysts.
Avatar n tn My question is what are some of the procedures that can be done to remove the mass and cysts? And does smoking increase the risks of them growing in size?
921657 tn?1243700001 ve read them, I would ask my doctor to show me an article that cited *evidence* of a link between cysts and ovarian cancer.
Avatar f tn I have hsd ovarian cysts for the past 5 yrs, the majority of them are water filled and can pop on their own. If they do rupture it can be pretty painful, in that case I take 800 mg of IBP. I am currently 8w 3d pregnant with my second child, when I was pregnant with my first I had a cysts the size of a grapefruit that encased my left ovary. I delivered my daughter and then had surgery to have it removed, it wasnt water filled needless to say.
675329 tn?1297288378 Of course if you had the hysterectomy, you would be able to avoid ovarian cysts, ovarian cancer, etc, but it is a huge decision to make. If your gyn can do something to help you, I would try that first if I was you. If your symptoms cause you a lot of problems you may end up with total or partial hysterectomy at some stage, but I think it would be best to hang on to your ovaries as long as possible. Is 2 month scans really necessary?
