Avatar f tn HI, Even though you may not want any more children, you are too young for a hysterectomy. The bleeding can be stopped with help of haemostatic medicines and with use of hormones like progestins. Also a D&C may sometimes be necessary to stop the bleeding. The ovarian cysts need further evaluation regarding their size and nature. Many of the cysts in young women respond to birth control pills or regress spontaneously. Hence it would be best to consult a gynaecologist for an evaluation.
Avatar n tn I have a history of ovarian cysts as large as 10cm and have had 2 surgeries in the past with one surgery involving removal of my right ovary. After being infertile for 8 years, I did get preganant after that and had 2 children. For 8 years after, I have had no symptoms or pain. In May/June the pain/discomfort came back. Had ultrasound and had 2 cysts. One 5cm, the other one 3 cm. The small one was complex with 10 compartments and the doctor didn't like it.
Avatar f tn This may be due to the altered blood supply to the ovaries after hysterectomy. Also when removing ovaries as a second surgery after hysterectomy, there is more scar tissue and more chance of a remnant syndrome. I agree with Neta. If you are not getting a satisfactory reccomendation, please get a second opinion. Also this surgery can be very complex.
Avatar f tn Hi! I find often that women who have chronic pelvic pain are talked into believing that 1-2 cm cysts are causing their problems. These cysts are normal and are almost always present on every woman's ovaries. I hope this is not what your doctors are talking about too! Your problem is a difficult one--chronic pain in the pelvic area, and believe it or not, often results from some sort of major physical/psychological trauma that becomes worse and worse over time.
Avatar f tn There is a study that says there is about a 40% risk of ovarian failure after hysterectomy. Another study says that the risk of ovarian failure is greater if one ovary is removed at the time of hysterectomy. Intact women's ovaries produce hormones into her 80's for optimal health and well-being. Ovary removal or failure is associated with many increased health risks and symptoms that reduce quality of life.
Avatar f tn I have been having lower abdomen problems (burning constantly) for about a year. I have been seeing a Gastroenterologist and have numerous test done and have been diagnosed with GERD and Barretts Esophagus and IBS. I take medication and watch what I eat but nothing helps. I had a CT Scan for these problems and it showed a cystic mass on my ovary so I had to go to my Gyn and had a Pelvic Sonogram. I have read that sometimes Ovarian Cancer can have the same symptoms as these other problems.
Avatar f tn So I have looked up symptoms of ovarian cysts and one that caught my eye was weight gain. Has anyone ever gained weight because of cysts? I can not seem to lose any weight. I wonder if the cysts are causing this?
Avatar f tn But keep in mind that ovarian cysts are a normal part of the menstrual cycle. Sometimes though they hang around longer than normal and, less rarely, they are problematic and need to be removed such as if they get too large or look suspicious. The small size, "unremarkable" characteristic, and lack of free fluid of these ovarian cysts would indicate that they should not need intervention. However, I agree with the other poster that it is odd that more information was not provided (e.

Avatar n tn I had 2 large ovarian cysts removed last May along with a full hysterectomy. I had suffered from the time I can remember with Heavy periods and also bad cramps. I had endometriosis which destroyed my insides ...I am not aware that size matters regarding ovarian cysts..I would discuss your options with your doctor. I didnt want a hysterectomy..because of hormones, menopause etc... i was 40 at the time. I was told if there was cancer or anything susipicous I would need the hysterectomy.
Avatar n tn If you do have the surgery, I suggest a gyn/oncologist do it or to be available to step in if needed. Most cysts are benign, but once we are past menopause, cysts cause more concern. The only way to know for sure is with a biopsy.
Avatar n tn m 46 and just had a hysterectomy for bilaterial ovarian cysts. I actually had 3 cysts and all were benign. Remember 95% of all cysts are benign. Best wishes to your friend.
Avatar n tn Typically, it can be chalked up to sporadic ovarian activity or something benign (non-cancerous) like fibroids or benign ovarian cysts (which typically cause hormonal changes). I have connected with many women who have had post-meno bleeding that did not need any treatment. Unfortunately, too many women end up with hysterectomies that are unnecessary and leave them in worse health than before. Even ACOG says way too many hysterectomies are being done with 76% not meeting their criteria.
Avatar f tn Ovarian cysts are odd, they can seemingly "pop" out overnight..there are several different kinds the type you have is not a functional cyst as those are always on the exterior of the ovary. We here at MH have an ovarian cyst forum perhaps you may wish to look there at some of the posts. let me know how you next visit goes.
Avatar n tn Hello, my wife had a full hysterectomy approximately 10 years ago and everything was taken out, EVERYTHING. She had a few cysts and her gynecologist suggested a full hysterectomy due to the fact that the cysts could come back if she were to get a a half hysterectomy. Long story short, she's a strong woman who really keeps it together but she has recently expressed that she's been battling depression.
Avatar f tn I am sorry you have to go threw this, it is very stressfull to have this hanging over your head. Keep in mind most cysts are benign!! Since this has been ongoing for you and TV showed a complex cysts, warrants a very through work up to rule out any other potential issues. My wife was recently Dx with granulosa Cell cancer( GCT) Jan 2010.
Avatar m tn Risk of cancer increases as we get older, you didnt mention your age or family history, they could affect the treatment. More than 95% of all ovarian cysts are benign, unilocular cysts are more than 99% benign according to some sites. If you are younger than 40 your risk of cancer is very small. Once you are over 40 or especially if you are post menopause, your risk of cancer increases although benign cysts would still be most common.
604168 tn?1222537786 Hi! Thank you for getting back to me so soon! I am 43 years old, have never had much trouble with my periods except for two years ago i had some irregular bleeding. They did the Ca 125 test and it was normal. I have had no other symptoms till recently went in for my annual physical and pap smear. All came back normal. I started having pain on my left side about 5 weeks ago. They first thought it could be kidneys because my back felt like it was on fire and pain was bad enough to go to the ER.
Avatar n tn MOST ovarian cysts (even complex / suspicious looking ones) are benign and it seems ovarian cysts are more common after hysterectomy due to the histological changes to the ovaries (likely due to loss of blood flow and feedback loop with the uterus). If your gynecologist deems this cyst concerning based on the traits specified on the ultrasound, you will want to see a gynecologic oncologist.
Avatar n tn We are fearful and confused. After the initial diagnosis of an ovarian cyst we werent too upset as my daughter and I both have PCOS, but this cyst is nothing like the cysts I saw in my own ovaries, and it is causing some mild discomfort and some urinary type symptoms for my daughter.
Avatar f tn I went today to have my third ultrasound, on top of stomach and vaginally by a specialist and he said that both ovaries are fine, the problem is that both tubes are blocked and filled with fluid and that was being mistaken for cysts. So maybe you might mention that to the doc. After my hysterectomy I too was thought ot have a hernia but was told that it was little and would probably heal itself as long as I didn't lift heavy objects etc...
