Ovarian abscess after hysterectomy

Common Questions and Answers about Ovarian abscess after hysterectomy

abscess

Avatar f tn I have been in your shoes, I had a hysterectomy, already had problems with a ovarian cyst,,Dr refused to remove ovary. A year later ovary was so bad it was attached to my bowel with endometrosis tissue. Im not a dr, but I am going to make a educated guess and say it really sounds like a cyst,,all possibiltys must be told to all patients. Usually a ovarian absess is actually in the tube near the top where eggs are released. A hematoma is possible but less common.

Avatar n tn Primarily for maintaining hormone production, hence no need for HT per her Kaiser doctors. But, loss of ovarian function after UAE was not taken into account because of microspheres or PVA particles flowing into organs where they were not intended to go. Kaiser’s Informed Consent states: “There is a 1 – 2% risk of compromise of arterial flow to the ovaries, which would lead to ovarian failure”.
Avatar n tn This is adjacent to the sigmoid colon but does not appear to be arising from the colon. This could represent a torsed left ovary, complex left ovarian cyst, left ovarian cystic neoplasm or hydrosalpinix. Pelvic ultrasound may provide useful additional information. Now I have began reading about torsed ovaries and ovarian cystic neoplasm and I must admit, I am very worried. My OB-GYN appointment is 2 weeks away and I will worry to death until then.
2091079 tn?1332816899 My doctor has completely ignore my complaints brushing it off as is normal after a hysterectomy. I am 48 years old I have to wear a diaper sbecause I am concerned about leaking urine all day. IS this normal, to develp infections after hysterectomy. Yesterday I started discharging a brown discharge, it has a slight smell, and I am in such severe pain that it hurts to even drive.
Avatar m tn I have diabetes and blood pressure also and I have read that removal of ovaries results in oestoporosis later on. I worry that I may not have much strength after hysterectomy. Please if someone has gone through a similar case let me know what deicision to take. I don't know if I should take a second opinion to reconsider ovaries bring removed or to listen to the doctors advice.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to get ovarian cancer after having a hysterectomy almost thirty years ago? I have had some strange symptoms and am a little nervous. Diahria, lower back pain, severe bloating , sudden nausea, etc. I am 49 years old, I had endometriosis as a teen, resulting in cervical cancer and a hysterectomy at the age of 23.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry this happened to you. I did not have an abscess but a number of other problems after having a hysterectomy (which should have never been done). I don't know much about abscesses but any abdominal infection can be serious. Hopefully, yours is under control and you are on the road to recovery. Did they remove the drain and bag yet? Please keep us posted.
Avatar f tn To truly DX ovarian cancer, a biopsy and pathology must be done on the cyst(s). They will probably get more information from these tests that you will have done today. Stats say that 85% of all cysts are benign, not cancerous. So try not to worry (Easier said than done). Take each step and then figure out what to do next. I wish you all the best.
Avatar f tn I had a partial hysterectomy in January of last year due to ovarian cysts and precancerous cells. I am only 29 so my doctor did not think I would have many issues or need to be on hormone therapy. But since then I have gained close to 30 pounds (I have gone from 130 to 160, all or the weight centralized to my stomach- and my breasts have gone from a c cup to an EEE .... ) despite clean eating and exercising regularly.
Avatar f tn gov/pmc/articles/PMC3223258/ addresses the risk of ovarian failure after hysterectomy. It is 2x that of an intact woman when both ovaries are left in place. That risk is greater when one ovary is removed.
Avatar f tn On left side and between belly button and incision, have had a pain there like a nerve pain, burns and stings, can only sleep on my back, to have no pain, standing no pain. only when I get up and down or sit for very long and lay on side or stomach it feels like I have been branded and like something is pushing on something against my belly button when I lay on side. My right side is great no pain at all. I am 2 weeks post op, hoping this will get better and I can start sleeping better.
Avatar f tn Mood and personality changes are common after hysterectomy regardless of whether or not one or both ovaries are removed. But additionally, ovarian function is oftentimes impaired after the uterus is removed. Our organs work together as a system... remove part of the system and it doesn't work properly. The ovaries of women with all their parts produce health promoting hormones their whole lives.
Avatar n tn Hx of abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salingoophorectomy in 1995 having abdominal discomfort with extreme fatigue upper endoscopy normal cbc general panal including amylase lipase normal upper abdominal ultrasound . Had cat scan with contrast showed 2.2 cm cyst in adnexal area. transvaginal ultrasound done Reading Simple cyst structure left adnexal region measuring 2.4x1.8x1.7cm Remainder of exam unremarkable etiology of cyst unclear. postoperative collection is possible.
Avatar f tn This may be due to the altered blood supply to the ovaries after hysterectomy. Also when removing ovaries as a second surgery after hysterectomy, there is more scar tissue and more chance of a remnant syndrome. I agree with Neta. If you are not getting a satisfactory reccomendation, please get a second opinion. Also this surgery can be very complex.
Avatar f tn Hmmm - So they did a "complete" hysterectomy (uterus, ovaries, tubes) because you had an ovarian cyst? Yet they could not remove the cyst? Maybe I am misunderstanding.
Avatar n tn Any postmenopausal meeting is never normal. I was diagnosed with fibroids, they are looking at possible hysterectomy...still waiting to see the specialist and unsure exactly what they have seen inside. I have been in full menopause with no periods for more than four years.
1294692 tn?1272396869 I was hospitalized last year due to a fever of 103 abdominal pains and excessive bleeding. CT cans and sonogram was performed and the findings was a 5 x 4.56 cm right tubo -ovarian abscess with approximately 1.5 cm of free fluid. My uterus measured 9.31 x 5.75 cm with a small anterior fibroid. With my left ovary not being visible.. Now my problem is, the pain I was having then has returned and it's worse, i haven't been able to attend school regularly so i had to with draw.
Avatar f tn Hi, As you are already past menopause, the body has probably adjusted to declining hormones. Hence you should not have many changes after the hysterectomy. I think you should be able to cope up well, leaving apart the stress of surgery. Hope this helps and good luck.
667078 tn?1316000935 With all do respect most women on the Ovarian Cancer Forum need a hysterectomy if their doctors suggests it. Most women with Ovarian Cancer are diagnosed late. You can always get a second or third opinion. I had Cancer in both Ovaries, the bowel, the diaphragm, culd sac, tubes, liver, spleen and omentum caking. They had to gut me like a fish to get all the cancer out. I lost most off my sex life but I am alive. I almost lost my bladder and could have ended up with a colostomy bag but I did not.
178345 tn?1242536246 I had huge complex cysts and endometriosis , my endo turned malignant into ovarian cancer unfortunately , I get backaches and sometimes feel like im going to get my period, I had a total hysterectomy over 3 years ago now , ovarian remnant syndrome is rarer than ovarian cancer , are you sure you haven,t strained your back? once you have done that once you can be plagued by pain.
