Osteoarthritis upper leg

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis upper leg

408795 tn?1324939275 I have extensive Osteoarthritis in my upper back and neck from an accident I was in over 20yrs ago. I had an accident and I broke my right leg and my left arm. As a result my right leg is slightly bowed and therefore around a half inch shorter than my left leg. As a result it has affected my back and neck. Lately my legs have been swelling and itching, mostly the left. I certainly feel it's all related to my right leg injury.
Avatar n tn I would be sitting and all of the sudden I would get this very sharp pain in my upper (front) leg near my hip. (upper thigh area) The pain only last 1/2 min to a min. I can go a week without a pain, then it will happen a couple of times a day, for a couple days in a row. I haven't had any injuries. I am over weight, but I have lost 75 pounds. ...So I don't beleive it is weight related. I have been exercising, but I haven't been doing anything too strenuous.
650397 tn?1228834984 Now it hurts but now my upper back of leg hurts worse. I am going to go ahead and have an MRI like my doctor recommends. But, I have to addmit I am a little scared. I also have alot of joint pain lately. Thumb, shoulder, elbow.
Avatar f tn I have fallen a few times, but this is usually down stairs, so I avoid stairs altogether. The muscle, only in the left leg, painfully contracts, even when the leg is at rest. The pain is deep in the bones, so rubbing muscle medication on does not work - aspirin and cortizone give me the best results. I periodically have foot pain, where I am unable to put pressure on the food for approx a day and night, then it subsides.
Avatar n tn the pain doesn't bother me when i am sitting or laying down, but walking is excruciating and it radiates to the back of the thigh and the outside of the upper calf... what can this be? I am in pretty good physical condition, sixty seven years old and was exercising on a regular basis before surgery....
Avatar n tn I have 2 kids, going on 3, and I can't afford to have this happen if possible. I basically have to keep the leg in a locked straight position and not bend it when walking or climbing stairs. I expect this to last for at least a week and then linger for a few more. I thought I'd ask for information here since I know already to take advil, ice and rest it. Does anyone know what this might be? Thanks in advance.

Avatar n tn In the middle of the night, I needed to get up to let my dog outside so she could do her business. When I attempted to stand up, the upper part of my right leg was completely numb. Not only was it numb, but I was NOT able to stand. Luckily, I was close enough to my bed so I was able to catch myself. After a minute or so, I tried to get up again, and fell on my bed once again. I sat down and waited a couple more minutes, worried.
1522912 tn?1292053850 The only thing that seems to alleviate it at all but is only temporary, is stretching my right hamstring by putting my right leg up on a high bench or table and bending forward towards my foot and touching my right foot with my hands and holding it for about 30seconds and repeating several times.

Avatar f tn If it is spasticity that is causing the pain, you might ask about botox treatments. It has been approved for upper body spasticity and doctors are using it off label for legs.
Avatar n tn I feel quite sure this is a symptom of it, but with the pain I am having in that leg at the hip and the vibrations down the leg, I need relief, not diagnosis. I am already taking arthritis medication, though it appears that may need to try another type to address this issue. I am also taking over the counter Glucosamine and chronditin, which are combined supplements that are suppose to help regenerate the cartilage around the joints that causes osteo-arthritis.
Avatar n tn I have intermitant pain in the upper right arm where it joins the shoulder and more and more tremor in my right hand to the extend sometimes I can barely write. The pain is more pronounced sometimes when I move my arm or when I change positiion when laying in bed. In my work (floral design) I extensively use shears to cut bamboo, willow bracnhes.. My physician sent me to consult a specialist who could not determine the cause. The specialist did not think it was Alzheimer and Parkinson.
Avatar m tn In the past year I've noticed that my left leg locks up all the time when walking, my left ankle has plantars fasciitis and is in constant pain. And now my right leg is also starting to lock up with the kneecap feeling unstable and the ankle is starting to get plantars fasciitis. I believe it has to do with the way I walk due to my CP.
Avatar n tn However I will try to provide you with some useful information. Pain in the groin area, hip, and upper part of the leg can be produced by multiple manifestations. Certainly radiated pain from a kidney stone can be manifested in these regions, however the pain is usually colicky, and more localized to the groin. In your case, the stone is on the right and the pain in on the left, so I doubt this is the cause.
Avatar n tn Shoulder pain, Arm pain - both forearm and upperarm, fingers, Leg - both lower and upper and sometimes centered around the inside of my knee, stabbing pain in my chest (left side), tingling/numb sensation in my left and sometimes in my face and stabbing/shooting pain in my neck, the side and sometimes the back!!! Needless to say I have been so worried about this - have had every kind of cardiac test going and all were fine and ultrasound of my legs were fine and nothing shows up.
Avatar n tn But just prior to my back surgery as luck would have it, the torn structures in both my shoulders started causing me significant upper arm pain 24/7. This got significantly worse over time and is now so bad that I can't find a comfortable sleeping position except for sleeping on my back. That is not ideal for me because: (1) I can usually fall aslepp only if I am sleeping on either side, and (2) I know my mid-back pain will start a few hours after I fall asleep on my back.
Avatar n tn For the past 2 days I have a very slight heat sensation in my lower left leg (no other problems). Is this some thing I should be concerned about now, or wait for my drs. appt in a few weeks?
211940 tn?1267884866 About 1 year ago I began having pain in my right upper arm, between the shoulder and elbow, about mid arm where the biceps brachii muscle or brachialis muscle is. I went to my Primary Physician who said it was a torn brachialis muscle. Since I was working at a 2nd job, I thought it might be job related so I went through the whole Workman's Comp issue. They sent me to 4 doctors who did nothing for me, finally the case was settled and my lawyer got most of the money, but I still have the pain.
Avatar n tn for the Wii and I had done a few workouts and last night when I started doing the boxing (which I had done several times earlier in the week with no discomfort or noise) I noticed a loud rubbing noise which seems to be coming from my upper back/ chest region. I only notice it when I twist my upper body. I hoped that with sleep it would go away, but I am still hearing it today.
Avatar n tn The pain began 2 years ago at which time I had an ultrasound and an upper GI done. Both of which returned little if no information as the upper GI showed mild gastritis and a small amount of fat in the pancreas which the doctor was not concerned about. I took some Prevacid for a while and it went away but has recently returned over the past 4 months.
Avatar n tn I have been having a sharp burning pain in my upper back mostly on the left side by the shoulder blade. At times my neck and left arm are effected too. The pain is present upon rising and lasts throughout the day. I am concous of my posture and do not believe it to be the cause. The pain worsens if i am carring anything at arms lengths or even if i am carring a light bag over either of my shoulders.
Avatar f tn 1-Aching stiffness across the whole back of my sacroiliac, that is now spreading forward into my lower pelvis; 2-Feelings like a band of tightness around my upper chest, (I can not turn over in bed); 3-Stiffness in my neck and at the base of my skull; 4-Momentary pulses in my head, with vision darkening; 5-Inability to walk too long, because weight bearing causes leg muscle pain and heaviness: 6-Disability: I can nor kneel down and get up. I can not walk on my toes.
Avatar n tn I have visited by primary doctor on a number of occasions regarding the pain and cramping in my left leg. Sometimes the cramps are so severe especially at bedtime. I am awakend by the cramps in my upper thigh area causing severe pain. I try to get out of bed, but each time I move, the pain gets more intense. My doctor gave me a steriod injection and said that I had Thrombaur (sp) Bursitis. I am not taking any medication as I am highly sensitive and have allergic reactions to many medications.
Avatar f tn i sometimes get a pain where its like im wearing an elastic around my knee and hip joint of my right leg for too long and its tingling and hurts in any postion i put it in.My entire leg feels like this from my hip to my toes, the pain goes away in a couple days but always comes back like a week or two later. ive been told it has something to do with my circulation but when im sitting and standing all day at work i don't know why sometimes i have it and sometimes i dont...............
209987 tn?1451939065 which is only when my back and knees start to bother me...but I doubt that a weak ankle would produce a pain in an upper leg bone...? Was born with the weak ankle...the upper leg pain is new as of a few months ago.
