Avatar f tn Hello My Xray showed Osteoarthritis in my fingers and wrists. I knew I had Osteoarthritis in my fingers but not in my wrists. Is it unusual to have OA in wrists? http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff168/kjl07/Osteoarthritis/IMG_2638.
Avatar m tn I have a bump on the underside of my wrist right below my thumb on my right hand. Its been there for 2 years. It gives me a slight pain when hold heavier objects and if I press on it.
Avatar n tn I'm a 26 year old female with chronic bilateral wrist pain. I have had significant pain in my left wrist for 5 years and in my right for 4-4.5. While the left was worse for most of that time, the pain levels are now essentially equal, depending upon use. (I am right-handed) The pain is centered on the back of my wrists, in the center between the bones. There is no stiffness, swelling, or heat radiating from the joints.
Avatar n tn First i am just recovering from a wrist fusion, there was no option for me since shattering my wrist a year ago, yes i will lose some mobility but hopefully gain strength and have kess pain. Also i see no reason why you couldn't surf, snowboard etc, you don't need you wrist for that. I know there are some things i will have difficulty doing but i'm sure i will adapt.
Avatar n tn If the reason is wrist osteoarthritis, the treatment is more difficult. One consideration would be to stiffen the wrist - known as a wrist fusion. This usually eliminates the pain and increases the strength, but prevents movement in the wrist.
Avatar f tn I was persistent and was eventually able to get treatment at no cost. After almost a year of treatment, I returned to work and school. My husband and I have good insurance through his employer, at least for now. But his company is cutting back due to the economy, and he was encouraged to "start looking now." So we don't know how much longer we'll have our good insurance. (I work for a small company. Love my job, but insurance is minimal.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar n tn Re: Some will try to claim that these problems cropping up after tx are a 'coincidence', or are due to some sort of rapid aging. How ridiculous to keep saying this. The point was that since such symptoms can be seen in the aging process, it must be difficult to definitively link them to the effects of interferon treatment. But Kalio supplied you with research that supports your suspicions, even though she/he was treated rudely on the other thread.
Avatar f tn Arthritis is a pretty easy diagnosis. Have you had blood work for rheumatoid factor? Xrays for osteoarthritis?
Avatar n tn I have pain and swelling in my right ankle and wrist and pain in the base of my neck on the right side.
1797277 tn?1315632507 i hv joint pain in hands and feet joints in wrist and ankled i m v worry after treatment it increase its start 4rm one year ago but from last 3 month it z v painfull nd nw it unbearable
Avatar f tn This type of arthritis is not hereditary but is associated with osteoarthritis. Usually treatment is NSAIDs, cortisone injections and reducing pain inducing activities. For many people, the standard treatment provides relief during flares. If you're not getting relief with the standard protocol and the doc still does not want to do surgery, it will be time to get a second opinion. Hang in there. I know it is tough!
Avatar m tn How to Avoid Osteoporosis Osteoporosis, or porous bone, is a disease characterized by low bone mass and structural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and an increased susceptibility to fractures, especially of the hip, spine and wrist, although any bone can be affected. In simpler terms, osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become weak and can break from a minor fall or, in serious cases, from a simple action such as a sneeze.
Avatar m tn Please can anyone help. I have an area of approximately 5cm in diameter by my wrist that feels a if it is on fire. There is nothing to show that I have anything wrong except for a little swelling under the surface. The pain has now duplicated itself further up my arm same size area towards the inside of my elbow and is also now doing the same thing towards my thumb joint.
Avatar n tn The various causes are carpel tunnel syndrome, inflammation of the tendon of the hand due to repetitive work, gout, lymphangitis, deep vein thrombosis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. You need to consult a doctor and rule these out by blood tests, X-rays, nerve conduction studies, rheumatoid factor, ESR, etc. Since the thumb twitches uncontrollably, symptoms could be due to carpal tunnel syndrome. In this the median nerve is compressed at the wrist in a place called the carpel tunnel.
521161 tn?1212369304 I saw a wrist specialist who thought I had a TFCC tear but it appears to be focal PVNS in my wrist. I am currently waiting for my doctors to meet and make a plan on what they want to do. I am concerned because I thought PVNS was thought to only occur in ONE JOINT not multiple joints. Could this be something else? If so what are the possibilities? If it is PVNS are there any genetic disorders that make you more prone to this disease? Could I have it in other joints also?
Avatar m tn After returning to work I developed swelling on the upper inside, about three inches behind the wrist joint, over the edge of the bone. At first I thought it was just a bruise, but it didn't actually show bruising, just swelling and a little soreness, so not thinking much of it I continued working for the week (lifting, hammering). After a few days the swelling (lump) went down and movment of the wrist was accompanied by creaking (like a rusty hinge) at the spot of the swelling.
653169 tn?1303449969 I also have degeneration in lumbar and hips My research agrees that I would have RA vs. Osteoarthritis. even though my orig. blood test for RA was negative. This is so frustrating. My doc wants to do the RA blood test again, but I am broke with no insurance and can barely afford meds I'm on. Would appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn I am female, 63, and otherwise healthy. However, for the past 5 months I have been having ankle, foot, wrist, & hand joint pain. Within the last several weeks, I have added arm and leg muscle aches. My vitamin D is low, so I am taking 50,000 mg (time release) of vitamin D/week. Have been tested for rheumatoid arthritis; results were negative. Aches & pains interrupt sleep & make me feel generally miserable. What are some possibilities/ suggestions?

Avatar n tn Hello I'm a 29 year old male. My father, his sister, his mother and her aunt all had Rheumatoid Arthritis. My father's was Juvenile Onset and he passed in 05 due to complications. In 2006 my right knee started hurting. I finally went to see an Orthopedic doctor. After an x-ray and feeling the top of my knee he said "You have Osteoarthritis in your knee. It is definately not RA." Well just a couple of months ago my other knee started with the same problems. Just pain mostly.
Avatar m tn My finger joints are stiff sometimes, from typing and my wrist is tight/stiff. When I flex, I can feel a numb pain (not numbness as in can't feel) move along the back of my hand, in the pattern of my veins. If I make a fist and move my hand, the wrist pops. Grabbing it and throwing it back to force it to pop gives temporary relief. My hand hurts when typing, but doesn't prevent me from it and the locking isn't permanent; just when I've had my hand in a fist for a long time and then only once.
Avatar m tn I am a 54 male. I am healthy (according to tests & exams anyway) but I am overweight by 50 pounds. In the past 10 years I began having a yearly bout (occasionaly 2) with gout (ankles & feet). It was always easily controlled with a prescribed medication (Indomethicin?)or Naproxen, and within 3-4 days I felt 100% In December 2012 I developed terrible ankle and foot swelling with unbearable pain, to the extent that on certain days I could not walk or put weight on that ankle/foot.
Avatar n tn Bilateral shoulder and elbow pain, numbness on last two fingers of both hands, sharp pain in both palms (below last two fingers and padding below thumbs), pain in shoulders when arms are rotated outwards, aches in both forearms (wrist extensors), bicep pain on occasions on both upper arms, some neck and shoulder aches. I have completed both X-Rays and MRI of the C-spine, and here are the results: ***X-RAYS*** C-Spine: Mild uncinate joint osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn Then came the right knee pain, right wrist pain, right ankle pain, left knee pain, and now upper back pain. They're sharp, stabbing, sometimes burning pains that are worse after sitting or standing for long periods of time or when going up or down stairs. Also especially bad at night when trying to lie still and sleep. And in the morning my joints are very stiff and painful. I haven't had fever or experienced any visible or noticeable inflammation in those joints.
Avatar f tn Biking too much hurt my knees, and my body just collapsed. Since then I have had debilitating knee pain, wrist problems, TMJ...pretty much all my joints are messed up. No Drs know whats wrong with me. My blood tests have all turned out negative, for Lyme's, rhumatoid arthritis, etc. X-rays of my wrists and knees are perfectly normal. Over the last year the pain has been ongoing, often so I can barely walk. I can't write or use my hands, or play violin anymore.
Avatar n tn Unfortunately, osteoarthritis, like any other type of arthritis has flare ups and then you feel a little better for a while and it can flare up again. Ask your doctor to refer you to physiotherapy who can give you specific exercises to do so that you do not become too stiff. Although rest is important, you still need to be active, but not to the point that you get exhausted. Unless you have been told otherwise, a healthy balanced diet with fish, fruit and veg would be fine.
Avatar n tn I have had manageable hand discomfort ever since, never quite enough to make me seek treatment. Discomfort does occasionally extends to the pinky area, but never past the wrists. My hand strength is "ok", but not what it should be. It is always best in the morning, and my hands get worse in the evenings. I don't have effects from the carpal tunnel hand position tests. I've never had any hand coordination issues.
Avatar n tn I have polyrheumatica and so did my sister, It is no fun and is very hard to tell if it is the fibromyalgia or the PMR.
1784705 tn?1314856237 Controlled trials have also shown that 400 - 600 IU's of vitamin E can be helpful in the treatment of osteoarthritis. Narclepsia is rare and linked to various genes. However, this condition is also linked to GlaxoSmithKline's swine flu vaccine Pandemrix. Hypothyroidism - symptoms can persist despite treatment. A common complaint is T4 medication not converting effectively to the active T3 hormone. Taking T3 along with T4 can help.
