Hi it is my first time ever posting on a forum, i need help and advise as to the best way to get help and treatment for pain that im in.

Treatment of Osteoarthritis consists of exercise, manual therapy, lifestyle modification, medication and other interventions to alleviate pain. If these fail then you go for surgery. Joint replacement surgery may be required. Individuals with very painful OA joints may require surgery such as fragment removal, repositioning bones, or fusing bone to increase stability and reduce pain.

Has anyone used acupuncture successfully to eliminate the pain from osteoarthritis? Does anyone know which treatment has had more success treating the pain of osteoarthritis, acupuncture or synvisc injections? Any help is appreciated.

I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.

I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!

I have osteoarthritis in my wrists and fingers after a accident at work . now 2 yrs later im having trouble dealing with the pain , I have no insurance because I have a job im about to lose . I get cortisone shots but they do not help , I take naproxen , loratab etc..... im applying for medicate but will be denied because of my job .

I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?

/ I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.

You're welcome! Well, that definitely is a reason not to bother your doctor with asking about ibuprofen! That's too bad, because when I was first told I had osteoarthritis in my jaw joints (could hardly open my mouth at the time), I was told ibuprofen was the drug of choice for TMJ.

I think the arthritis issues that can be related to interferon are more along the lines of rheumatoid arthritis, an auto-immune disorder, than osteoarthritis, so should not make the osteo worse but might add another layer of misery if the interferon causes that in you; no way to tell in advance if it will happen.
