572823 tn?1217212689 Kim et al. then conducted a double-blind clinical trial of MSM for treatment of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Twenty-five patients took 6 g/day MSM and 25 patients took a placebo for 12 weeks. Ten patients did not complete the study, and intention to treat analysis was performed. Patients who took MSM had significantly reduced pain and improved physical functioning, without major adverse events (Kim et al).
Avatar f tn Years ago after horrendous headaches and neck pain and trips to the ER I was diagnosed w/ osteoarthritis that cause migraines. Been taking hydrocodone for it since then and it's been a godsend. 2 little pills and both problems go away and I can function.............I don't take them everyday, more like 3 or 4 days a week, 2 pills and I'm good for most of the day. I also have a tens unit which has help tremendously as well. Take LOTS of hot baths etc. Fast forward to now.......

Avatar f tn Alternative medicine can be very effective for the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have always been physically active and have never been overweight. There is no arthritis in my family and feel that for most of my life have eaten properly. I have arthritis in my hip.
Avatar f tn What about ecotrin, which is another coasted asprin would that work. and how much of the other stuff do you give. Here is a little background. I have a 9 year old alaskan malamute who recently has been having problems with her back leg. She is in no pain or showing no pain, except stiffness in her back legs when she walks. It is worse after she has been sitting awhile and tries to get up and walk around.
Avatar f tn Let me start by saying I am in pain everyday from head to toe, I am 64 & otherwise in good health. I am currently being treated by a Rheumatologist for cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc disease, osteoarthritis of ankle & foot and Achilles tendonitis. and am not getting much relief. What concerns me the pain which occurs at the base of my head, if I turn my head while lying down, I can hear crackle from that area & pain follows.
Avatar m tn Start with no weight and gradually work up to heavier weights. For the elderly and those with more advanced osteoarthritis, I would suggest avoiding weights and instead use calisthenics. As you improve, you can add some light weights. Regular exercise will not only improve joint stability but will also aid in weight control. Exercise also reduces inflammation. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Both of these bad habits increase free radical generation and inflammation.
Avatar n tn Two months ago consulted OB GYN MD who prescribed ten day oral antibiotic treatment, then anti fungal/yeast cream vaginal treatment for four days after antibiotics were ineffective. The discharge is still there, does not seem related to hormone intake. Stopped all hormones for two months to test. No blood spots, no odor, not had intercourse for two years. Lots of daily stress and hard physical work in my daily life, but no allergies or illnesses.
Avatar f tn Could this be osteoarthritis? Or Ra? I have been taking anti-inflammatories and I seem to respond well. In other words it takes away any pain. I am planning on seeing a rheumatologist soon. Please advise! Thank you!
1652468 tn?1302904098 Bad Diet Promotes Arthritis There is no question that diet plays a large role in the development and continuation of arthritic symptoms. The standard American diet, full of refined foods, is a pro-inflammatory regimen. Inflammation is what causes the redness, warmth, swelling, and joint destruction associated with arthritis. Eating pro-inflammatory foods will not only create the environment for arthritis to begin, it will fuel the illness once developed.
Avatar n tn This is also important for your bone development, especially if your doctor thinks you might have Osteoarthritis at your young age.
Avatar n tn I worked in a Nutrition store for many years and there where many people who were helped by Glucosomine and Chondroiton combo, and this was a discount company, so the quality probably is not as pure as the more expensive brands, although who really knows???? I found it seem to work better with the MSM added with it. But I get the pure MSM form ******** website and for me that works very well by itself and I give that to my pets too. I am not sure how having the vitamin D in it helps???
177382 tn?1253044740 Cymbalta is currently being prescribed like crazy for fibromyalgia because it has been approved for the treatment of fibro. My doctor wrote me a prescription for it, but I have not tried it because I have panic-type symptoms on occasion. I have read that it may not be good if you experience panic attacks, but if your issues are pain and depression without panic, it may help. Cymbalta works differently than paxil, so you may not experience the same issues.
4226456 tn?1354123528 (early) due to side effects and now I am experiencing joint pain, stiffnes that started a couple months after treatment. When I sit for any period of time, my hips are so stiff and my feet are stiff too. My feet feel like they can't hold me up. Ambulation is not so easy. After a few moments of being up on my feet and walking the discomfort and stiffness goes away. I am also experiencing wrist pain, carpel tunnel type symptoms in one hand that I dont use much for writing or anything.
Avatar n tn However, I'd like to hear comments from anyone posting on this site about not only Synvisc treatments but other treatments available for treatment of osteoarthritis in the knee joints. My symptoms are more achiness, stiffness, and limited range of motion instead of pain. Thanks.
Avatar n tn On the other hand, if it's not in good shape, you might want to formulate a treatment plan soon. As far as treatment is concerned, some of the drug companies have financial assistance programs. Also, many of the larger teaching hospitals run trials where they pay for the cost of your treatment. But your first step is to find out what is going on with your hep c and the rest of your health problems. Once you know that, you can make a more informed decision how to proceed.
Avatar n tn Accutane is prescribed for severe acne which has not responded to an adequate (normally 2 years) course of oral antibiotics and topical treatment. It is not intended to be given as a first line treatment, and is not indicated for acne occuring before puberty. Care must be taken when prescribing to adolescent patients who have not finished growing.
Avatar n tn There is no treatment for them and they don't change or go away. They are generally painless, so it is doubtful that the pain your sister is having is caused from this finding. Treatment will not be based upon this finding alone, but on her symptoms, any arthritis found, and general condition of the bone. If your sister is older than 40years of age, I suggest she talk to her MD and see about getting a bone scan (DEXA)to see about any osteoporosis risks.
Avatar n tn I had the scope because of osteoarthritis of the knee with severe osteoarthritis of the patellofemoral joint and was hoping the surgery would buy me a few more years to work. This was a big mistake because I am in more pain now than before the surgery.
Avatar f tn I do have alot of joint pain and noone says why except that I have osteoarthritis but Im wondering if it all isnt coming from the herpes...I just wish I could find a Dr that would find out what was wrong with me...So wondered if this breaking out on the hip is what you have...
211940 tn?1267884866 once a week to physical therapy, twice a week to acupuncture, 600mg Advil 3-times a day and ice as often as I can remember. The physical therapy is minimal stretching. It is the most frustrating thing but it does seem to be getting better - I've been suffering for appx 4 months, I still have pain at night, but it's getting a little better.
975514 tn?1325001538 I was 17 when I first was diagnosed with sciatica and it wasn't until I was 31 when my foot was completely numb that I was able to convince a doctor to take an X-Ray of my lower back, which started a domino effect of MRIs and testing. I learned that I have degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis in my spine, minor scoliosis and nerve damage- I even had a shoulder surgery on a bone spur because I kept getting tendinitis and the doctors couldn't cure my arm pain.
Avatar f tn I'm starting to get the same effect. as I was reading the comments I saw a comment that said something about being nerve related and I also have lower back problems as well as neck soreness. Last year I went to see a chiropractor and my spine was shaped like and "s" in stead of being straight. I had a six month treatment which help tremendously. Before I had visited the chiropractor, I was having lots of heart burn and I went to see a doctor for this.
Avatar n tn but other than the fact that we're the same exact age, I've just started investigating what we're dealing with. I have heard DMAE supplements are helpful, as well as MSM and vitamin E. I'm ordering them now. Have you had any developments since your posts here? Please let me know. The "curl up and cry feeling" IS huge and overwhelming isn't it? .
203342 tn?1328740807 She went for the accupuncture treatments, 5 in all, and then had her blood work redone and her liver enzymes were still high but had come down alot. Out vet believes in homopathy treatment and I am glad we were open to this. We are just taking it one day at a time. I just discovered this web site and I must say that this forum is such a good and helpful idea. It lets us all know we have someone to talk to about our dog's problems and know we are not alone.
Avatar n tn I'm now taking omega 3, 6 and 9, vitamin c ascorbates with msm, selenium, mastic gum to protect and heal the gi tract, and aloe vera to help with digestion and acid control. I will soon be taking siberian pine nut oil also. The great thing is that these aren't drugs, they are natural vitamins, nutrients and enzymes that the body utilizes to function properly.
