My mother 67 years, obese, with hypothyroidism, and on antihypertensive is having osteoarthritis both knee more on left and now assosciated with limping, is advised to undergo knee replacement surgery.which hospital is preferable in kerala? and what is the prognosis. She is having severe pain now. Could it be controlled by surgery? Please advise whether surgery is beneficial at her age?

Has anyone used acupuncture successfully to eliminate the pain from osteoarthritis? Does anyone know which treatment has had more success treating the pain of osteoarthritis, acupuncture or synvisc injections? Any help is appreciated.

I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar.
