748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar n tn Restoration of motion, swelling control, and strength are the goals of each. The primary goals in treatment of ACL rupture are restoration of function in the short term and prevention of long-term pathologic changes in the knee. 1846239 tn?1321201954 That's what keeps the pain at bay and keeps you moving and living. Whatever treatment plan the pain doc offers, make sure you fully understand his goals. Pain management does not offer a cure our pain or what is causing it. The word "management" is key. If the doctor can lessen your pain enough to where you can participate in life again, that is successful treatment. In other words, don't expect miracles but rather improvement.
2126606 tn?1346348724 Unfortunately, that physical dependnecy and craving leads people to feel unwarranted shame, and they’ll often put off seeking treatment for fear of telling their loved ones. It’s important for anyone battling a painkiller dependency to understand it’s not their fault and anyone prescribed medication is susceptible.
Avatar n tn He is a wonderful doctor and tries to involve me in every aspect of my treatment, his goals are for he and I to work together to keep me employed (I am an engineer and drive constanctly for work, without pain management I would not be able work for my current employer and would likely have to find a job making much less money). I am also a paramedic and did go to nursing school for 3.

Is it true that there is no treatment for compensated cirrhosis and if so, how long do I need to wait before I can put my name on a transplant list. I am 40 yrs old with 4 kids and a wife and do not want to wait until it is too late.
Avatar f tn I am 31 years old and I have a ruptured disc at L4-5 that is slamming the L5 nerve roots up against the spinal canal along with osteoarthritis, bone spurs, ligament thickening, and spinal stenosis at that level. I have a bulging disc at L5-S1 that is impinging on the S1 nerve roots and the disc is completely dessicated (dried out) and it is possible that given more time the vertebrae will begin to rub together causing me more pain.

Avatar f tn There is something very empowering about taking the initiative to get treatment and to ask to adjust treatment in view of your results. One example of how one small lifestyle change has made a huge difference in my life is that I noticed that my skin was very dry, my heels calloused and cracked. This is common with hypothyroidism, and with diabetes, both of which I have. I also know that diabetics need to be particularly careful with their feet.
Avatar f tn I just have to focus on my goals in life to be more active and less focus on pain every day and I think this year is going to be a good year towards achieving those goals. I hope the goals that you have for this year are obtained as well. Keep working with your physician and you both will come to the optimal solution for your pain. Please keep me posted.
Avatar f tn Hello folks, I am somewhat surprised to find myself talking on a bulletin board about being an oxycontin addict, but oh well. I have some chronic knee osteoarthritis. I was reading an article on it, last year, when up popped an ad talking about an osteoarthritis clinical trial. I clicked on it, took the survey, and ended up getting enrolled.
Avatar n tn Hopefully, this will help me attain my goals of trying to correct my posture, losing a little weight, and building my spinal muscles. I apologize for the length of this post. Writing is therapy, you know. Anyway, you are probably wondering where this is all leading. I have some more questions which I hope that you can answer. 1.
585414 tn?1288944902 I also used to drink piles of coffee to stay awake, I was drowsy all the time. I only have rough days now usually when it's colder outside as I have osteoarthritis in my lower back. I've stopped having tenssion headaches, my neck doesn't hurt anymore, and that's been going on for 15+ yrs when I started Luvox as my first ssri. I can cope more with lower back pain 90% of the time, when my pain is at a level 8+, I don't do well. I also know that pain at that level triggers my depression.
Avatar n tn When did your pain begin, what were you doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Grinding is characteristic of osteoarthritis; locking and catching are characteristic of meniscus injuries and osteochondritis dissecans (meniscus injuries are much more common than osteochondritis dissecans); and giving way is more characteristic of ligamentous injuries. Are there any positions that make your knee more or less comfortable?
Avatar n tn So I have been trying to figure out, how to seek treatment with the most minimal amount of narcotic pain relievers, and other therapeutic techniques so I can start coming off of some of this medications.
Avatar n tn prescribed them for my osteoarthritis in my knee's, and Wow! It sure took the pain way! However, had I known the addictive nature and how hard it is to come off these, I would have never started taking them. During those 7 months there were times when I'd have to wait a day to pick up a new prescription and there go a day without them. Those were rough days.. I'd have zero energy, could barely make it to the kitchen from the livingroom and got the restless legs at night.

Avatar n tn high blood pressure (weight gain does not help this), high cholesterol, osteoarthritis in my knees and feet, hypothyroid (medication did not stop the weight gain), and now fibromyalgia. I feel terrible, achy and tired and in pain every day. I could care less about sex. Everything is very dry and it's uncomfortable, plus the extra weight. I'm depressed. I don't feel good and I don't look good. I wish I had some answers. Doctors look at me like I'm just a lazy, fat old lady.
363682 tn?1299492962 Strangely enough, I have had chiropractic treatment 'on and off' for lower back pain that began (as I thought) as a pulled muscle on the middle left side just above the buttocks. Since this treatment, although much better, the back pain is still nagging around following any lifting/bending - but, with hindsight, the onset of the back problem may well also coincide with the onset of these headaches.
Avatar n tn did you find out if you are pregnant? i have read that HCG is not a fertility treatment but it can facilitate pregnancy! if not did you find out what was going on?
