Avatar m tn Is it possible I already have osteoarthritis? And are there any non surgical treatment options available to me? I am specifically wondering if injections might help?
1459410 tn?1285698605 Im in PT to help as well but if anyone would like to share a short summary of their story from pre-diag symptoms through successful treatment, I would really like to see how the different docs have handled your speciific case. The most effective thing Ive done on my own was recently bought an herbal cream that has capsicum in it whihc has done more than any of the other pharma routes. Its still kinda unbearable but Ive at least noticed it being somewhat alleviated.
Avatar f tn Years ago after horrendous headaches and neck pain and trips to the ER I was diagnosed w/ osteoarthritis that cause migraines. Been taking hydrocodone for it since then and it's been a godsend. 2 little pills and both problems go away and I can function.............I don't take them everyday, more like 3 or 4 days a week, 2 pills and I'm good for most of the day. I also have a tens unit which has help tremendously as well. Take LOTS of hot baths etc. Fast forward to now.......
Avatar f tn Whatever my mystery illness is it is effecting my stomach so I need to be very careful that i don't take anything that would cause more problems. Will Glucosamine help? Are there any side effects?

159785 tn?1276229625 nothing worse than having your heart doing flip-flops all day and night. Many people also swear by yoga for the stress. You don't take glucosamine/chondroitin, do you? My back problems are mainly due to arthritis (osteo), and, of course, that just doesn't go away. However, the difference between when I was hypo and now is unbelievable. I could barely walk. I was so close to getting steroid injections (I was actually at the facility, but HBP due to anxiety about the procedure saved me...
572823 tn?1217212689 These pilot studies of MSM have suggested some benefits, particularly for treatment of osteoarthritis. Further studies would be needed to test the usefulness of the chemical as a medical therapy. Osteoarthritis: After several reports that MSM helped arthritis in animal models, a double-blind, placebo-controlled study suggested that 1500 mg per day MSM (alone or in combination with glucosamine sulfate) was helpful in relieving symptoms of knee osteoarthritis (Usha and Naidu 2004). 748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
7505421 tn?1391433822 There are different things available, like Rosehip, Cherry, Glucosamine &Chondroitin, Celadrin, Celaritis just to name a few. Some people get benefit from massage, especially if the muscles go into spasm. Other people find seeing a chiropractor or osteopath helps, depending if any joints are out of alignment like in the spine and neck. Unfortunately, there isn't a cure and it also depends on which type of arthritis he has.
Avatar n tn between the bones of the joints. Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthritis. Treatment includes reduction of weight, exercise and support devices like splints, canes, walkers, and braces.Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen are used for pain relief. Some studies, but not all, have suggested that the food supplements glucosamine and chondroitin can relieve symptoms of pain and stiffness for some persons with osteoarthritis.
Avatar f tn Physical therapy plays an important role in the treatment plan of osteoarthritis. If you are not satisfied seeking second opinion will help. Do keep me posted. Take care and regards!
Avatar m tn 30574/abstract A six-month study of chondroitin sulfate (800 mg once daily) versus placebo in patients with hand osteoarthritis showed a significantly greater decrease in hand pain and improvement in hand function among those taking chondroitin sulfate (Gabay, Arth & Rheum 2011). The duration of morning stiffness was also slightly reduced. These benefits were not noticeable until after 3 months of treatment.
Avatar m tn This is why you may hear of Syvisc as a 'motor oil' for the knee joint Numerous studies have been performed in the past decade to assess the effectiveness of Synvisc as a treatment for osteoarthritis. However, no clear understanding of how well Synvisc injections perform has emerged. Early studies of Synvisc were performed on too few patients and the follow-up period was limited to a short time. Some studies showed a benefit of Synvisc injections, primarily in reduction of pain.
Avatar f tn give ascripton- coated asprin but I recommend giving fish oil, glucosamine with condrotant (sp)and msm.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have always been physically active and have never been overweight. There is no arthritis in my family and feel that for most of my life have eaten properly. I have arthritis in my hip.
Avatar f tn This type of arthritis is not hereditary but is associated with osteoarthritis. Usually treatment is NSAIDs, cortisone injections and reducing pain inducing activities. For many people, the standard treatment provides relief during flares. If you're not getting relief with the standard protocol and the doc still does not want to do surgery, it will be time to get a second opinion. Hang in there. I know it is tough!
Avatar f tn Aside from weight reduction and avoiding activities that exert excessive stress on the joint cartilage, there is no specific treatment to halt cartilage degeneration or to repair damaged cartilage in osteoarthritis for your stage of problem. Applying local heat before and cold packs after exercise can help relieve pain and inflammation for you.
Avatar f tn MRI says- severe bone bruising and bleeding, micro fractures of tibia, 2 complex menus all tears-anterior and posterior, grade2-3 cartilage thinning, fluid above knee and in knee behind patella, bathers cyst, ligament strain, some bone growth and early osteoarthritis. What the hell do I do- I am thinking lose weight, swim, take chondritin, glucosamine, vitamin c, see a knee surgeon... what I DONt want is a knee replacement. It is a bit stiff, swollen and aches.
199177 tn?1490502134 Still, further research is needed to determine the effectiveness of dietary modifications as a pain treatment. Nutritional Supplements There is solid evidence indicating that glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate are effective for knee osteoarthritis. These natural compounds were found to decrease pain and increase mobility of the knee and were well tolerated and safe.
Avatar m tn This is probably why there’s usually a three to four week delay after starting treatment for pain relief to begin. I suggest 500 milligrams of glucosamine sulfate three times a day. glucosamine might affect blood sugar control. If you do have diabetes, checking your blood sugar will tell you whether the glucosamine has enough of an effect to warrant not taking it. Using 1,000 milligrams of niacinamide three times a day (it doesn’t work as well if you only take it once or twice daily).
Avatar m tn Hello, I am 46 yrs old, male, ex-athlete (competitive level basketball) and live in London, England. A year ago I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis on my left hip during an arthroscopy and most of the joint cartilage is worn out. Take glucosamine tablets regularly. Even though my condition is not so advanced to take painkillers etc, I cannot do any sport, which is important to me (even at a light, amateur level) and walking start bothering me after a few hundered meters.
Avatar n tn How do I get rid of the chronic stiffness in my foot(right; & hand) ? Doc surmises(diagnosis) inflammed tendons( I ran for <20 years, now ceased). What's the cure for osteoarthritic inflammation, or does everyone cop out with, "there's no cure" & go enjoy life(while others suffer) ?
Avatar m tn Start with no weight and gradually work up to heavier weights. For the elderly and those with more advanced osteoarthritis, I would suggest avoiding weights and instead use calisthenics. As you improve, you can add some light weights. Regular exercise will not only improve joint stability but will also aid in weight control. Exercise also reduces inflammation. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Both of these bad habits increase free radical generation and inflammation.
Avatar n tn Osteoarthritis, Ligament damage, Meniscus damage or Patello-femoral disorder. Your symptom of pain at the joint line is the result of a collateral ligament or meniscus problem (or both) until proven otherwise. When did your pain begin, what were you doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Your other symptom of feeling of grinding and grating is characteristic of osteoarthritis. What is the quality of your pain (sharp, shooting, dull, etc.)?
199177 tn?1490502134 Acupuncture also may be an acceptable alternative to or may be included as part of a comprehensive pain management program. Chiropractic Treatment and Massage Chiropractic treatment is the most common non-surgical treatment for back pain. Improvements of people undergoing chiropractic manipulations were noted in some trials. However, the treatments effectiveness in treating back and neck pain has not been supported by compelling evidence from the majority of clinical trials.
Avatar f tn Hi, I've not got a diagnosis for my pain, however it is concurrent with symptoms for osteoarthritis. As I've been suffering with pain in my knees, hips, lower back and knuckles for 12 years now I'm not holding out on a diagnosis anytime soon, more so because I know how much the medical comminity seem to despise diagnosing osteoarthritis in anyone below 50, I'm 30 so another 20 years to go before acknowledgement of OA will be given!
159619 tn?1538184537 Intra-articular injection of corticosteroids, and hyaluronic acid, may have a small effect on knee pain. I think Synvisc treatments are fine. You need to monitor your improvement on Synvisc treatment. If you do not have any response then what is the second line of treatment. What is the line of management the doctor has planned? Keep me posted if you have any queries. Bye.
Avatar n tn However most ppl know that Glucosamine is marketed for the treatment for osteoarthritis. I know of four family members that have taken this for as long as six months, including my husband. All claimed no decrease in their painful symptoms but none noted an increase either. The medical community appears to agree that this is a safe supplement but the consensus of the effectiveness of this compound varies widely. I am sorry but I can't give you any educated suggestions.

Avatar m tn I intend to do stretches. I've considered glucosamine therapy for my joints in case it's osteoarthritis. Is any of this helpful? Harmful? Should I see another doctor? It's difficult to wade through the inaccuracies of the internet. Can I ever recover from RSI? I don't know whether or not I'm advanced.
