osteoarthritis

Avatar f tn Hello My Xray showed Osteoarthritis in my fingers and wrists. I knew I had Osteoarthritis in my fingers but not in my wrists. Is it unusual to have OA in wrists? http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff168/kjl07/Osteoarthritis/IMG_2638.
Avatar m tn It comes and goes, occurs in different fingers, and stays swollen for a couple days and then disappears. The swelling seems to occur from the middle to lower part of the finger making it difficult to bend my finger. Any suggestion as to causes, determining the cause and treatment? Thank you.
Avatar m tn I poke it with a pin to drain all the fluid out at least twice a week, and notice that it is a real sticky clear substance. Is there a treatment for this? I will be seeing my general practitioner in Feb about this. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Right hand fingers not thumb stay swollen all the time. They have been this way for two years. Have been given steroids and they work through treatment but afterwards things return. Swelling can be severe at times and any movement will split the skin. Fingers stay swollen all day long. Main swelling is atop of the middle joint. A doctor at the clinic said osteoarthritis from xray. She gave me naproxen which I cannot take. What else can cause this and is NSAIDs the only line of treatment.
Avatar f tn Basically my jaw kept popping in and out of place more frequently since my second go at having braces, which finished up back a year ago or so but it's been getting progressively worse, notably since August I can't open my mouth properly anymore and no I haven't been diagnosed officially by a doctor, last time I went with two complaints, jaw and heart so she told me my heart one was more serious and ignored my jaw.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.

Avatar n tn I have been getting burst blood vessels in my fingers (and even occasionally in my feet) for no apparent reason for many years. I am 41. It happens with very light to no exertion, and it stings then turns purple. It happened again to me this morning, and it's very disconcerting. I have also had problems in the past with excessive bleeding after surgery (2 occasions), and gums that bleed during a normal dental cleaning.
Avatar n tn I would concur and confirm what Sue said. I was diagnosed with full blown osteoporosis in my upper spine at age 46. Primary care doc chalked it up to early menopause although she did allow as how unusual it was. Knowing what I know now I would have to think that Living with HCV for close to 30 years may very well have something to do with it. I agressively treat it taking both Fosomax and Miacalcin. I also do upper body strength training and walk a lot.
587787 tn?1218808059 I would suggest you to do some neck exercises daily and apply heat and ice therapy to the affected part. For migraines the best treatment is avoidance of trigger. You can also take magnesium supplements which have been known to prevent migraine attacks. Bio feedback therapy is another option.
159785 tn?1276229625 If you decide to try this, we can suggest come questions. Although the rule of thumb for FT4 is midrange, and for FT3 is upper half to upper third, some of us are more comfortable lower in the ranges. How are your hypo symptoms? Do they persist, or is your main symptom PVCs? The increased PVCs on Armour was most likely due to the high T3 content in it, which is why it improved with Synthroid. BBs can make you feel tired...
Avatar n tn The various causes are carpel tunnel syndrome, inflammation of the tendon of the hand due to repetitive work, gout, lymphangitis, deep vein thrombosis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. You need to consult a doctor and rule these out by blood tests, X-rays, nerve conduction studies, rheumatoid factor, ESR, etc. Since the thumb twitches uncontrollably, symptoms could be due to carpal tunnel syndrome. In this the median nerve is compressed at the wrist in a place called the carpel tunnel.
562597 tn?1254402341 My neurologist wants to do the Epidural Steroid Injection on C6-7. My husband thinks I should just go to a chiropracter. Is this too late for a chiro? I think I'm better off sticking to my Neurologist. Any opinions deeply appreciated! Also, do you think my MRI report is bad news?? Are there any limitations that I should not do?? (Lifting over certain pounds, etc.)??
1391401 tn?1280161900 Pain management is kind of a last resort when nothing else can be done to help the cause for the pain. If surgery or some other treatment might help you, it might be beneficial to get an neurosurgeon's opinion. Surgical techniques have improved tremendously in recent years. My sister just had multi-level cervical fusion with plating a few weeks ago and she's doing great.
1652468 tn?1302904098 Start with no weight and gradually work up to heavier weights. For the elderly and those with more advanced osteoarthritis, I suggest avoiding weights and instead use calisthenics. As you improve, you can add some light weights. Regular exercise will not only improve joint stability but will also aid in weight control. Exercise also reduces inflammation. Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. Both of these bad habits increase free radical generation and inflammation.
Avatar f tn Arthritis is a pretty easy diagnosis. Have you had blood work for rheumatoid factor? Xrays for osteoarthritis?

739070 tn?1338607002 An X-ray will sometimes show what kind of arthritis we are talking about. You are in the right age group for osteoarthritis. If the pain is in the last two joints of the fingers and the base of the thumb this is most likely OA. If so we remove it from the equation. Do both hips hurt? or mainly one? If your left leg has been subtley weak all this time, you would have compensated for it in your stance, posture and gait which could cause a degenerative joint pain.
475586 tn?1225027354 Its especially a shame that some people including doctors are ignorant to our situation and therfore do not have compasssion for us. The sad thing is, if these issues were in my daughter or my cats and dogs for that matter, I would go to the ends of the earth to find out what is wrong. But I tend to put my self last . But Its time to focus on me & see what really wrong.
Avatar m tn Sometimes a feeling of pressure in head/mild headache. Feel the need to press my fingers into my eyes for light relief. Onset of this phenomenon started at age 7. Was referred to Neurologist(no longer practicing) and had first EEG test on 05/24/2000 along with an ear and eye test. MD concluded no abnormalities in any of the tests. Then the day after I had underwent a video EEG 16 channel electrode which the neurologist claimed event of "seizure from left hemisphere".
1711722 tn?1356491154 Arthritis -- Recently woke up with 8 of my fingers in pain; Osteoarthritis Vertigo -- Extremely more intense and more frequent Cycle -- Noticeably different during tx and pushed me into Pre-Menopause symptoms quicker than expected Eyes -- Back to back infections (went to Urgent Care for a 2nd opinion); pain; vision changes (ordinary aging but excelerated) Yes, my doctors are aware of these issues, but say it is not (now) due to the tx meds.
Avatar f tn ) I have been tested for Carpal Tunnel 3x, normal. I have had tingling/numbness of hands/fingers for years and years, but not all the time. It comes and goes along with my burning feet which only started last September. My fatigue is getting worse and worse with each passing week. I have acquired since December a swollen throat, scratchy and sore and it will not go away. I also have heartburn about 4 nights out of the week and have been snoring more.
Avatar n tn I have been tested for Lymes by ELISA, Lupus, RA, Mercury poisoning, osteoarthritis,MS, Ankolosing Spondilitis and it goes one all negative. Now I am going to an LLMD for treatment and testing. Apparently the Lyme was dormant in my system for a very long time.
Avatar n tn Today I have a strange feeling in my fingers, a little numbness in the fingers and tingly, non-painful funky feeling for more than 3-4 hours that doesn't go away. What could this be and is it serious??
Avatar n tn My blood pressure has not risen due to the bromalean. As a matter of fact, this ingredient is found in pineapple and is a treatment for Lupus as long as it is not cooked, ie: canned. Like I said earlier, it is not a panacea. I still have pain on a continuous basis. But this seems to take the edge off of it. My joints don't hurt as much. My muscles hardly hurt at all. My depression is really reduced. However, if my Lupus is exacerbated from sun exposure or stress my pain is worse.
2064920 tn?1331194105 I have to give you total history in order for you to have a greater understanding. I was an avid mountain biker for several years up until 7 years ago when all of this started. I am now 49 I got on my bike 7 years ago to begin my ride and went for about 5 minutes when my legs felt like led, they actually felt like I was carrying 1000 pounds.Shortly after that I noticed a twitch like thing on the right side of my right hand.
16888441 tn?1452159257 Surgical orthopedics and treatments help treat chronic diseases such as various forms of arthritis in the hands, knees and back. For example, rheumatoid arthritis severely inhibits mobility in the fingers and hands. Orthopedic care is designed to relieve pain and increase mobility require a team effort from specialists in orthopedics surgery as well as specialists who focus on the musculature damage such arthritis causes.
Avatar m tn He should go for X-ray scans and some other blood tests to rule out osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis or Rheumatic fever etc. Ask him to see a rheumatologist / orthopedician for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Take care!
