Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis symptoms wrist

osteoarthritis

Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn This is a specialist who focuses on autoimmune disorders like RA. With your athletic background there could be some osteoarthritis going on, as well. It's hard to tell until you've seen a rheumie, who will run a number of blood tests and probably do some xrays to have a look at what's going on.
Avatar m tn Hello, A clinical examination is very essential for correct diagnosis and treatment of your symptoms. The common causes of your symptoms could possibly be ganglion cysts, rheumatoid arthritis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis and gout. In rheumatoid arthritis there is morning stiffness, joint pains and nodules under the skin. Ganglion cysts arise from the capsule of a joint or the sheath of a tendon.
Avatar n tn Since the thumb twitches uncontrollably, symptoms could be due to carpal tunnel syndrome. In this the median nerve is compressed at the wrist in a place called the carpel tunnel. Symptoms begin with numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side (twitch is also possible). Nerve conduction studies are quite diagnostic. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections. Surgery may be required in some cases.
1091980 tn?1295541431 Currently I experience pain with almost everything I do, doing up bottons, pulling up socks, writing, using the computer, operating the TV control makes my wrist ache as does my hand flexed over the chair. Holding objects raised makes my wrist ache quickly. I also have stinging pain in the centre of my palm, three fingers, and running up the front of my thumb as well as three inches up the inside of my arm. This area looks a little swollen.
Avatar n tn What's the cause of pains in the wrist and fingers? Also stiffness on flexion and extension? How can this be treated?

Avatar f tn However, I was on mobic for my wrist and that did not help at all so I had to get a cortisone shot in my wrist. It seemed to help, but the pain is already back and stronger than ever. Now I have a cold, wet feeling in my thumb. I grabbed a random photo off the Net and circled the place as to where I feel that sort of feeling. I never had the feeling before. I'm also limited on my mobility and my right ankle is pretty swelled up as well.
Avatar f tn I am 27 and otherwise healthy. I have had soreness in my left thumb, and my Doctor said it was carpal tunnel. Suddenly it became so painful i could not move it, and the er doc. said it's dequervain's tendonitis. I have redness, swelling, and slight bruising, but no pain in my wrist. ( also there was no injury ) I have been wearing a splint and taking nsaid's for 3 days now with no improvement. Does anyone know what is wrong with my thumb?
Avatar f tn I had my first child 11 weeks ago and have been breast feeding her since, but now I get a painful clicking in my right wrist where my thumb joins. It clicks so bad you can see it and hear it, and the joint and surrounding area hurt a lot.....
Avatar f tn I think the last 2 months I have actually strained my wrists but not the normal swelling. As when I carry food shopping only slightly heavy 2-3 bags I get a pull in the wrist area and can be sore. Even simple carrying a bag of milk and a bottle of sprite can set it off and in past weeks they have been really weak holding even a glass of water, toothbrush, Sometimes using a knife in left hand, opening milk etc. I have been wearing wrist brace and have some gel from doctors.
5887486 tn?1376104591 It can also be due to loosening of the wrist bones due to ligament weakness or injury. You may need a MRI of the wrist joint for confirmed diagnosis. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
1083310 tn?1260107282 The injections should help with the swelling and pain because all it is is lubrication to your joints so that bone to bone is not rubbing against each other. It helped my knees for about 6 weeks but not as much now.
Avatar m tn That is too young for osteoarthritis. Do you have any other symptoms beside joint pain? Maybe fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision, anything.
653169 tn?1303446369 My initial blood test showed negative for RA,but I have all the signs and symptoms and am an orthopedic nurse so I have alot of knowledge, but of course don't know everything. My niece has RA and her initial blood work also came back negative, then later positive. Has anyone else heard of RA blood test coming back negative, but patient was still found to be diagnosed with it. I have done extensive research and I fit all the criteria.
Avatar n tn Hello I'm a 29 year old male. My father, his sister, his mother and her aunt all had Rheumatoid Arthritis. My father's was Juvenile Onset and he passed in 05 due to complications. In 2006 my right knee started hurting. I finally went to see an Orthopedic doctor. After an x-ray and feeling the top of my knee he said "You have Osteoarthritis in your knee. It is definately not RA." Well just a couple of months ago my other knee started with the same problems. Just pain mostly.
1467506 tn?1286413017 ) The pain begins at my knuckle joint and extends down all fingers, some wrist pain as well though that seems to come and go whereas finger pain is always there, just intensity changes with activity. I am planning on finding a hand doc this week but wanted to know if this sounded like anything any of you have experienced before. Might it be from the FM or is it most likely not related?
Avatar f tn Hi there! If this is related to osteoarthritis of the fingers, you need to avoid tight gripping. For writing, wrap your pen with foam for an easier grip. For drinking, use a mug and wrap your hand around it for a larger, more stable grip. Cups with dainty handles are difficult to hold. Choose kitchen utensils with large and soft handles as these are easier to grip. These are just some examples on how to prevent tight gripping to prevent worsening of the condition. I hope this helps!
Avatar m tn t think that is what you are looking for. What symptoms are you experiencing now? What treatment has the doctor prescribed? What area of your body is effected?
518798 tn?1295212279 I thought the shoulder pain was causing my wrist and fingers to go numb, come to find out it was the wrist causing the shoulder pain. I am totally baffled. I go back on Monday for a nerve study to determine if I need surgery. I wished I would have gone to the doctor sooner so I could have healed before school starts back. Oh well, I will just pray that surgery is not necessary. Anywhoo, he gave me a script for mobic and tramadol.

Avatar f tn I am wearing an elastic wrist/hand contraption and it seems to help a little. They gave me a wrist (cast looking thing) but I can't wear it because I can't type with it on and I work in an office on a computer all day. Getting old IS tough....LOL.
523861 tn?1212277420 I have of lately felt these episodes flare either including a couple of areas (usually shoulders, hands are more episodic) or adding a few (such as feet, wrist, hips) or all the above mentioned. Today it is all areas that hurt and warmth brings comfort. I knowwearing mittens in the summer may look silly, but it feels good and brings relief to some degree. I can't say it is joints that hurt. It is muscle more.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with many things which have cross over diagnosis, many of which seem to be very similar. Why do I feel I need to be the doctor when I explain my symptoms with no response? I fear I will not be able to advocate for myself much longer. There must be a way go separate these conditions. I have osteoporosis (fractures of ribs times 3 three) fx l wrist, fx l elbow, fx thoracic vert. x two.
