Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.

209987 tn?1451935465 I just read elsewhere that her symptoms are typical of osteoarthritis...mine are not. In fact, the article said that red and hot are not signs of osteoarthritis at all, but they could be symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, major organs shutting down, allergies, etc. My doctor looked at my hands one day and said that I had osteoarthritis...they were "normal" that day. I have had big knuckles since I was a child...
Avatar m tn I understand your concern regarding your symptoms. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and it causes pain, swelling, and reduced motion in the joints. if there is no pain associated with the joint cracks or pops, this may be caused by the soft tissue in a joint. Knee popping may also occur if the patella is slightly out of alignment, and rubs on the adjacent tissues. Other causes of joint noise is the snapping of tendons or scar tissue over a prominence, or cavitation.
Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/osteoarthritis/ostearthritis-of-the-knee-degenerative-arthritis-of-the-knee#1. Do you take any medication for the arthritis or pain?
Avatar f tn Hi there, There are several conditions which can cause one sided ankle swelling. A traumatic injury or ankle sprain is common cause of ankle swelling and pain. Other causes are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, vascular obstruction etc.In osteoarthritis there are degenerative changes and damage to the articular cartilage. Diagnosis of osteoarthritis is confirmed by physical examination and X-rays of the ankle joint.
Avatar f tn I put compression wraps on both of them and fell asleep I woke up the next day and the lower legs were both slightly swollen. I am on the second day and the swelling has not gone away! It has not gotten worse though. Should I be concerned? I have no pain in my chest or shortness of breath or anything like that.
Avatar n tn I have had no blood tests for RA and I have no swelling. Can all of this be caused by Osteoarthritis or are my symptoms indicative of RA?
Avatar n tn There is also been consistent pain and very slight swelling the entire time between attacks. If left alone during the attacks the swelling and pain would die down by itself after about a week. It has been drained 3 times and each time the fluid has been tested and found nothing. Each time it swells it is seemingly random with no injury and with no intense workout or vigorous activity the day or two before.
Avatar f tn Hep c Symptoms Long-term infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) is known as chronic hepatitis C. Chronic hepatitis C is usually a "silent" infection for many years, until the virus damages the liver enough to cause the signs and symptoms of liver disease.
Avatar n tn Have you been tested for any other autoimmune disorders? Here is a check list that may be helpful in getting a diagnosis if this is the case. http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/autoimmune-checklist.htm There are many things that can cause the swelling ect that you are having but this is a general area to start getting checked. I take black cherry extract for my osteoarthritis and it works great for the swelling ect. I hope you get a diagnosis soon and get better quick. Best wishes.
408795 tn?1324935675 I have extensive Osteoarthritis in my upper back and neck from an accident I was in over 20yrs ago. I had an accident and I broke my right leg and my left arm. As a result my right leg is slightly bowed and therefore around a half inch shorter than my left leg. As a result it has affected my back and neck. Lately my legs have been swelling and itching, mostly the left. I certainly feel it's all related to my right leg injury.
Avatar f tn I have had the swelling too. My fingers typically...when the weather warms up. Once I had taken a long car ride and both my ankles swelled so much I couldn't stand on them. They mentioned gout...but it has never happened again. A few months back my index finger swelled and became red (and hurt like the devil)...just that one time. I think it's all part of the FM symptoms. I hope you feel better soon.
Avatar f tn I have knee pain and swelling that comes and goes. I have been to an Orthopedic and have had x-rays and MRI. Nothing specific was noted in the x-ray and scan. The Dr suggested orthoscopic surgery to see what he might be able to do. I have not had the surgery. He also suggested I may have osteoarthritis. The pain will come with walking, sometimes very quickly and sometimes not much at all.
Avatar n tn I don't have any swelling in my joints. The pain in all joints started about 7/05/08. Ninety five percent of the time it's when I am sleeping. I can't hardly turn over is is so painful. Almost makes me cry. Also if I sit too long. Very difficult to stand up walk the first 10-15 steps. The pain subsides drastically but stiffness is still there. I am recovering from acohol abuse. The pain started the first week into inpatient.
Avatar f tn I have had symptoms that have been increasing over the years. I am now 54 years old and have tried to stay in shape and stay active and have kept my weight down most of my life (has gone up 10 lbs in the last year). I have an elevated ANA-IFA Titer that is 1.16 homogeonous, ELISA normal, normal SED rate, normal thyroid levels, CRP has been elevated in the past but not with my last labs.
1378884 tn?1315505845 In a nutshell, osteoarthritis is wear-and-tear on the joint. It can happen at any age, not just to "old people". It can be brought on by an injury, a congenital deformity, overuse in a sport or job. RA is a malfunction of the immune system in which it mistakes joint tissue, mainly the cartilage, as something that must be attacked and eliminated. This causes the typical swelling, redness, heat, and over time, damage that causes pain and disability.
Avatar n tn Glucosamine supplements are widely used for osteoarthritis, particularly knee osteoarthritis. In osteoarthritis, cartilage -- the rubbery material that cushions joints -- becomes stiff and loses its elasticity. This makes the joint prone to damage and may lead to pain, swelling, loss of movement, and further deterioration.
587778 tn?1261397118 My doctor sent me for an X-ray and it reveal mild osteoarthritis. My knee and thigh are noticeably larger than the other other one. I am in so much pain.
Avatar m tn t think that is what you are looking for. What symptoms are you experiencing now? What treatment has the doctor prescribed? What area of your body is effected?
Avatar n tn The various causes are carpel tunnel syndrome, inflammation of the tendons of the arm due to repetitive work, lymphangitis, deep vein thrombosis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. You need to consult a doctor and rule these out by blood tests, X-rays, nerve conduction studies, rheumatoid factor, ESR, etc. Muscle injury causing the muscles to swell up can be diagnosed by enzymes transaminase (AST) and creatinine phosphokinase. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Hi, Thank you for posting. Recurrence of spur depends on the associated conditions present, such as osteoarthritis. Further evaluation may need to be done to determine the best course of action. If there is swelling and pain in the joints, it is best that you have this checked for proper examiantion. Take care always.
