osteoarthritis

1422385 tn?1282542385 It's time for a trip to the vet to find out what's happening. At 9, your pom is a senior and it may be something relatively simple like osteoarthritis. It may also be something more serious like a growth interfering with movement of the jaw joints. There's no point waiting and speculating - it's time for professional help so call and make that appointment today!
1388999 tn?1370042814 While pain in dogs can be treated with narcotics, it's not often that it's used for chronic pain situations outside an inpatient setting that can be closely monitored. I suspect part of the reason is diversion: too many people take the meds meant for their dogs. There are several NSAIDS to try that are safe for dogs. Deramaxx is a cox-II inhibitor like human Celebrex that worked the best for my dogs with osteoarthritis and one with hip dysplasia.
Avatar m tn t think that is what you are looking for. What symptoms are you experiencing now? What treatment has the doctor prescribed? What area of your body is effected?
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn I have arthritis in most of my joints, but I have more than one type of arthritis too. If you are looking for symptoms of osteoarthritis in the neck, they include pain, stiffness, tenderness, weakness, tingling or soarness in the arms, headaches and even balance problems.
Avatar f tn Most commonly, generalized osteoarthritis occurs in the spine, knees, hips, base of the thumb in the first CMC (carpometacarpophalangeal joint), tips of the fingers, and big toe. The wrists, elbows, and shoulders are typically not involved in generalized osteoarthritis. Other Facts About Generalized Osteoarthritis A gene defect that causes primary generalized osteoarthritis has been discovered. Generalized osteoarthritis develops spontaneously.
408795 tn?1324935675 I have extensive Osteoarthritis in my upper back and neck from an accident I was in over 20yrs ago. I had an accident and I broke my right leg and my left arm. As a result my right leg is slightly bowed and therefore around a half inch shorter than my left leg. As a result it has affected my back and neck. Lately my legs have been swelling and itching, mostly the left. I certainly feel it's all related to my right leg injury.
2167803 tn?1338529751 Im 33 and in cold weather i feel pain in my knees especially when knees r bent for more than an hour the pain is severe.when i stretch my legs the pain shoots up and becomes unbearable for a minute or too and then disappears. When i bend knees the same thing happens. What is this?
398377 tn?1201534325 Some of them, yes. Glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM found with the "people" meds are fine for dogs. Just make sure to check with your vet on dosages. There are also senior dog foods that contain varying amounts of these ingredients you may want to try as well. You could also check with Dr. Cheng on the Pet Health board here at Med Help for dosages. Does your dog have osteoarthritis or something more serious like hip dysplasia?

Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?

Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar f tn I have not heard anything about a new procedure but I did hear that there is a new pain medication called Nucynta (Tapentadol) which is a mu-opiod agonist analgesic. It is structurally similar to Tramadol.
513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
Avatar n tn this has been happening for decades on a much smaller scale wit h my clothing- usually bleaching around the front of my shirt collar. i thought that it was make-up that mixed with sweat. in the last 5 years it has gotten much worse. i also notice that i have an odor on my hands that reminds me pf a "burnt" smell, the palms of my hands and a "v" shape on my neck are red. also i have osteoarthritis and degenerative disc throughout my spine.
Avatar f tn Depending on the joint, occasional steroid injections can help. I have osteoarthritis in my hips - too many years as a ballet dancer. :-/ It finally got bad enough last winter that I mentioned it to my pain doc. It worked great and didn't hurt too badly. The only drawback is that relief only lasts a few weeks, so I save the injections for winter when I'm nearly crippled.
Avatar n tn First, go to an orthopedic doc, not your general practice doc. Get xrays, especially a standing xray if it's in your knees or ankles. My doc started me on Relafen (sp?) and physical therapy- The pills take the edge off the pain and the therapy will (hopefully) help strenghten the muscles around my joints. Good luck!
Avatar f tn This is the report from MRI Osteoarthritis in the left shoulder with cartilage erosion and mild joint effusion associated with osteoarthritis in the acromioclavicular joint with mild impingement over the superior surface of the left supraspinatus muscles. No ratator cuff tear or tissue retraction no muscles astrophy.
Avatar m tn She was a greyhound, nearing 20yrs old, so perhaps not surprising. How old is Tess? There are many things that can help arthritis in dogs, including a number of supplements. Again, the important thing to identify is what has caused the arthritis. It can be caused by old age (joints get worn out just like humans), but sometimes it is caused by an infection, which is treatable. Has your vet told you whether Tess is suffering from Osteoarthritis or Immune-Mediated Arthritis?
209987 tn?1451935465 I just read elsewhere that her symptoms are typical of osteoarthritis...mine are not. In fact, the article said that red and hot are not signs of osteoarthritis at all, but they could be symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, major organs shutting down, allergies, etc. My doctor looked at my hands one day and said that I had osteoarthritis...they were "normal" that day. I have had big knuckles since I was a child...
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have orthoscopic knee surgery on my right knee to correct problems I am having related to osteoarthritis. Does this type of surgery prevent osteoarthritis from returning? Is this surgery safe? What is recovery like after surgery? Any information anyone has regarding this topic will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn From the symptoms I think your vet is probably right on the money with the diagnosis of a mass in the brain, but I doubt that the tremors signify pain because you said they are of short duration. Pain wouldn't be that transient, so it sounds like she may be having a neurological reaction to the mass. As long as she is eating her food, eager to go outside and is alert and happy to see you when you talk to her, just let her be. You will know when it's time.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoarthritis in that joint with no cartilage remaining causing a bone spur to develop. This spur in turn is dislocating my thumb & why I have the bump. My surgeon said that it is very common on non dominant hands. I have psoriasis & believe I may hav psoriatic arthritis going on due to other symptoms- which you are also experiencing. I have an appointment with a rheumatologist to have that checked out.
