Osteoarthritis symptoms in dogs

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis symptoms in dogs

Avatar f tn Yes, it's a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Under indications, it says: "for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in dogs." Good luck! I know I hate to see any of my 4 pups in pain!
Avatar n tn Re: Some will try to claim that these problems cropping up after tx are a 'coincidence', or are due to some sort of rapid aging. How ridiculous to keep saying this. The point was that since such symptoms can be seen in the aging process, it must be difficult to definitively link them to the effects of interferon treatment. But Kalio supplied you with research that supports your suspicions, even though she/he was treated rudely on the other thread.
Avatar n tn Hi Sebastiandelacroix- I am having some of the same symptoms as you and am wondering what it is also. I am interested in knowing if you have some of the others I have had...along with the involuntary twitching in my legs and numbness and tingling in my arms and hands I have had fatigue and migraines. My doc put me on a heart medication for my migraines and they have subsided for the most part but now the twitching and arm/hand probs have arisen.
475586 tn?1225027354 My knees do have osteoarthritis in them--I had an MRI. I also have 2 herniated discs in my neck and kyphosis. My sister has RA, so I thought I had it also, but the doctors say no. I have a rheumatologist who is very nice, although most of the treatments I've been getting for fibro are not doing much. He seems sure that other than my knees and my neck, what I have is fibromyalgia. I have pain all the time, aching and soreness and also the sharp, stabbing pains.
585414 tn?1288944902 I feel like you and I have alot in common with our symptoms. I wish I was as eloquent as many of the ppl on here.... I also seem to not realize a LOT of things I thought were just weird quirks may actually be a part of my BP. Like the painful skin-crawling feelings & now, the feelings of isolation and giving up. Which brings me to.... Lynnkay: We are doing the best that we can with what we've got. If we knew better, we would do better. Platitudes, yes. But it is the truth.
Avatar n tn I have had the same symptoms in my lower left leg. I Googled the problem and found your comments. I am going to the Dr. on Monday. I will post what ever I find.
Avatar n tn I wonder if any of us have other medical issues in common. I have restless legs syndrome, osteoarthritis, MVP, Barrett's esophagus, eczema. I always have an ache somewhere but seem to have episodes of all over pain. Some days I feel very fuzzy, have had a little bit of a balance problem lately with increased pain in the neck area. I also am having a major problem with TMJ and can't open my jaw enough to eat a sandwich. I'm under chiropractic care for this.
Avatar m tn I have been waking up every morning, for over a year, feeling like I'm in withdrawals. What do others, that are forced to stay on hydrocodone to ease pain, do in order to not feel this way in the mornings? I had a doctor that told me the only way I could stop this is to set a clock and take more around 2 am. I never felt this way prior to the few months on the stronger drugs.
Avatar n tn It felt like tiny bubbles were popping all up and down the backs of my legs- especially in my thighs. It does not hurt in the least. In fact, it's actually a pleasant feeling. I stretch well before and after exercising. It is during the stretching that I notice the feeling, but I think it starts when I'm running. I'm just too busy to notice it then. Should I be concerned about this?
1388999 tn?1370046414 While pain in dogs can be treated with narcotics, it's not often that it's used for chronic pain situations outside an inpatient setting that can be closely monitored. I suspect part of the reason is diversion: too many people take the meds meant for their dogs. There are several NSAIDS to try that are safe for dogs. Deramaxx is a cox-II inhibitor like human Celebrex that worked the best for my dogs with osteoarthritis and one with hip dysplasia.
931217 tn?1283484935 Or neutered pets studied in an affluent city may get more veterinary care, and better care in general, than intact dogs roaming loose in a rural area, so differences between the groups in some disease might be due to factors other than neutering. A good scientific study will try to control for such factors and the authors will identify potential problems with their data.
Avatar m tn She was a greyhound, nearing 20yrs old, so perhaps not surprising. How old is Tess? There are many things that can help arthritis in dogs, including a number of supplements. Again, the important thing to identify is what has caused the arthritis. It can be caused by old age (joints get worn out just like humans), but sometimes it is caused by an infection, which is treatable. Has your vet told you whether Tess is suffering from Osteoarthritis or Immune-Mediated Arthritis?
1519952 tn?1291097445 At the time (Ben passed away in 05) my vet said there was a drug that sometimes helped w/dementia symptoms in dogs, but he hadn't had much luck with it, so I never used it. I did have a limited amount of help using Rescue Remedy (sometimesfor me too, lol). You might want to check w/your vet to see if there are better options on the market now.
1679858 tn?1346768781 Everything was fine until I had to get down and do push-ups and planks. I felt as though all the muscles in my body could handle it, but I got this extreme, weird, weakness between my shoulder blades and knew I had to stop. The next few days, I would have such fatique...but it was not a normal fatigue from simply just working out. I stopped those classes and decided to try Yoga. Thought it would be a gentler form of exercise.
Avatar f tn The drug in both forms is FDA-approved for dogs – the oral form is more often used to treat the symptoms of canine osteoarthritis. The injectable was approved for one-time use only in cats to manage postoperative pain. The oral form was not approved for use in cats at all. However, veterinarians are allowed to use medications in an “extra label” or “off label” manner, meaning they can legally prescribe oral meloxicam for cats." Please keep us updated, I hope all is well.
Avatar f tn In dogs, the problem almost always appears by the time the dog is 18 months old( 1 yr, 6 months) The defect can be anywhere from mild to severely crippling, and can eventually cause severe osteoarthritis. It is most common in German Shepherd Dogs, Labrador or Golden Retrievers, Rottweilers and Mastiffs. It is known to be hereditary but can appear on it's own as well. There is no complete cure, although there are many options to alleviate the clinical signs.
Avatar f tn I'm active and do alot of out door activity- not pain free - but I wont let pain stop me from enjoying life! I recently particaitated in a 90 mile kayak event in the Adirondack mountains of NY. 3 days of paddling with 5.5 miles of carrying my boat up and over rocks and hills. So- now i know why I was experiencing the ankle pain. What a fool I was for not connectng the dots! So now what am I in for? Shots? more pills, surgery... Anyone know?
Avatar f tn It is a personal choice, and I do hope you find some pain relief. Take care, and keep in touch. Bless those dogs of yours. I hope they give you some comfort.
Avatar n tn Methocarbamol and/or its metabolites are excreted in the milk of dogs; however, it is not known whether methocarbamol or its metabolites are excreted in human milk. Because many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when Robaxin is administered to a nursing woman. PEDIATRIC USE: Safety and effectiveness of Robaxin in pediatric patients below the age of 16 have not been established. OVERDOSAGE: Limited information is available on the acute toxicity of methocarbamol.
Avatar m tn Here is a brief summary of the progression of stages, I think I posted it in a thread say a few days ago. This is as far as I've gotten in my research. Thought I would copy/paste it in here real quick. It's better to be educated about this than not. I don't want too little too late to be the case here. From the time you are infected six months after that is called the acute phase.
Avatar f tn I've just dropped the few friends that I did have without a care. Dogs (my favorite) cats, birds, tropical fish. Give me my animals and my grandchildren and I'm in 7th heaven. My grandchildren who live long distance got a Beagle a few months ago during my last visit down there and I could hardly contain my excitement. But getting back to the point. I read alot because it takes my mind off of my many worries and multiple health issues. I try to avoid going out of the house.
931217 tn?1283484935 If it is false, which I believe it is, it is at best a benign placebo, but as you shall read in the embedded link, it is at worst a harmful form of charlatanism, perpetrated on people (and animals owned by like minded people) who are at their most vulnerable and at risk. That is an immoral circumstance. The fact that all is not known in medical science, and that some disease cannot be cured, much less palliated, does not justify selling fraud infused with false hope.
544292 tn?1268886268 Hi and Welcome Tramadol Warriors, Please come on in and make yourself comfy. All are welcome.
Avatar f tn I grew up on 6 acres of wooded land in VA with lots of horses, goats, chickens, and dogs! My mom was dx with Rocky Mt Spotted Fever in 1984. I watched her deteriorate throughout her life with problems that the drs said must be depression-related. Ultimately she passed away in 2005, after they found 50 + lesions on her brain. They said that she must have cancer. She died a week later. Now I'm sick. I've been ill for at least 14 years. I've been to numerous drs.
544292 tn?1268886268 Severity of withdrawal can be estimated by considering that each 100 mg tramadol oral (hx daily use) will be roughly equivalent of 10 mg morphine (IV daily use) in severity of withdrawal symptoms. Differences are that standard opiate withdrawal seems to cause more physical illness (vomitting, diarhea, bone pain etc.) Tramadol withdrawall seems to cause significantly more anxiety and emotional distress.
748543 tn?1463449675 TMJ' as it is wrongly called by many) is easy to treat and self-manage or that it may all be in the patient's mind. The sources in the article stated that, "TMJ problems were originally thought to be caused by dental Malocclusion but that this was an infrequent cause of the problem". The American Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), an organization of some 40,000 of the nation's leading dentist, recognizes the relationship between maloclussion and headaches.
1450453 tn?1293764571 For the past month the majority of my symptoms have goine away. What will going in the sun do for the Lupus test?
1438412 tn?1315511519 I think boredom and depression are the main reasons I eat. By the end of the day the pain kicks in really bad so I lay in bed and watch TV. Then I get in self pity mode and decide I deserve to eat. I love crafts but hands hurt to much. I think I'm going to try some larger crafts. The main thing is being held reasonable for my behavior So I think things like the tracker and the challenge would be great for me. Thank you So much!
Avatar f tn OK so you were taking Teleprevir. Your GI said he does not think symptoms would set in so suddenly in almost every joint? You treated Apr to Oct 2011. So over the past year arthritic symptoms have set in. I don't get what he means by suddenly. I mean it has been a year. Not that I am encouraging you to think the HCV meds the cause. Still, who knows, they could have been a trigger or a catalyst. The bottom line is you will find out more on your appointment on the 12th.
