Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis statistics

Avatar f tn You have heard the saying, doctors differ patients die. bone spurs and osteoarthritis dont go away without treatment, osteoarthritis is a degenerative illness....... It sounds like they are unsure about just what is going on with you.
Avatar f tn I have chronic osteoarthritis through my whole body including my spine, plus other bone abnormalities. I have had chronic pain since I was 12 (18 yrs ago). Doctors have never taken my pain seriously until recently when I was properly diagnosed. I am now on Endep, Lyrica and Gabapentin which together helps with all my nerve pain. But even strong pain killers didn't help with my joint and back inflammation.
469720 tn?1388149949 As you may have noticed by now, the focus of this forum is cardiovascular disease(CVD) prevention. The statistics speak for themselves. CVD is the leading cause of death in the US and worldwide. Although we have made substantial progress in the development of medications to combat the causes of CVD like high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes; the rapid proliferation of these diseases virtually negates and medical benefit. In other words, we are treating the consequences, not the cause.
Avatar f tn I am hoping it was a blessing in disguise so that he didn't have no more suffering as he was misdiagnosed before that with osteoarthritis which we were treating him for 4 months. I feel so bad he had to have that pain before he died and then went through that terrible surgery. please let me know your thoughts....
Avatar m tn Hello and a tardy Welcome. Please excuse this tardy reply. We have some members that haven't able been able to participate in the community recently. I'm apologize. So please catch me up. I hope you are still monitoring this site. Have you seen the Orthopedist? - If so what suggestions did he offer you? You have more medical issues on your plate than anyone your age should have to juggle. My son was diagnosed (DX) with a similar condition - Ulcerative Colitis at age 12.
Avatar n tn doesn't mean that they are not working. This is how overdoses happen...and ppl never wake up. These are the statistics that say too may ppl on opiates, muscle relaxers or sleeping pills are dying...because the person often no longer "feel them" work, so they mistaken think they are not working when they are. They are compromising your respiratory status and slowing your heart rate.... and at four times the recommended dosage...to dangerous levels.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with buldging L3 - L5 disks with a bone spur. I also have osteoarthritis in back and both hips. I was diagnosed by an Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in spinal treatments. I began an excercise routine and found the pain too great to excercise. I have had MRI w/contrast and spinal X-rays. I was told to start with steroid epidural shots to the L4-L5 area. I have had first shot.
Avatar f tn Have seen a rheumatologist who said that she thought that I probably had hepatitis that gave me osteoarthritis...Hep. A, B, and C were neg. as were liver enzymes. hip joints show no arthritis. She won't do a lymes test because my esr and cbc were normal. She told me to take motrin...my thumb joints are so contracted that I am losing function. I went to see a new pcp since mine quit to teach before I finally went to see her and I was left with a brand new nurse practitioner.
1211850 tn?1266938568 After 48 weeks of treatment, if you are still undetectable for the virus at 12 weeks post and 24 weeks post, you WILL be cured. The poor folks who drag down the statistics to a 50% cure rate are those who fail to ever go undetectable or a few who go undetectable and then have the virus pop back up before their 48 weeks are up.
1840891 tn?1431551393 3 as measured a week ago, but by how I'm feeling I think it kept dropping after that test), the RLS got worse again (the dopamine enhancing drug had to be stopped due to other sx), the cracks at the corners of my mouth came back (I'm using the anti-fungal cream, thanks to you guys (my doctor didn't have a clue) and getting relief, the sores on the tongue came back (the biotin helps, but not enough), the coughing and wheezing have been pretty severe, the intestinal sx from the ribavirin has been
199177 tn?1490502134 The 1999 and 2002 National Health Interview Surveys (NHIS) were conducted by the Census Bureau for the National Center for Health Statistics. In 1999, 30,801 U.S. adults were asked if they had persistent joint pain during the past year and if they had used a mind body therapy (including relaxation techniques, guided imagery, hypnosis and biofeedback) during the past year. People with musculoskeletal pain were almost twice as likely as those without pain to use mind body medicine and prayer.
Avatar f tn Another thing to remember is no ones pain is alike, when someone tells you that it shouldn't hurt because of statistics, or whatever doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt you in particular. So keep going to the doctors, keep on them until you can get some answers and some help. Keep us updated, and good luck!
Avatar f tn What are the surgeon's statistics - meaning how many times has he preformed the surgery and what have been the out comes - good and bad? The Cervical Spine is more difficult to manipulate that other areas of the spine - as it's much smaller, more complex. I'd hope the neurosurgeon specializes in the Cervical Spine. Back to the SCS. I am probably not a good person to discuss these implants - because I've seen and heard of more problems with them than is normal.
7486852 tn?1410355784 A neurologist i used to see diagnosed me with epilepsy at around 16 then had my primary care refer me to a knee specialist also because of knee pain he ordered an mri and at 18 i was diagnosed with osteoarthritis I don't know if it spreads or what but most of my bones and joints hurt, crack, pop, and my knees give out on me at times.
Avatar f tn Has anyone out there been able to sustain a viral load of undetectable in my same situation? What are the statistics on this? I have come so far. I want to beat the dragon! A few bits of information will be helpful- Genotype 1a, diagnosed 2004 and treated but viral breakthrough in month 6 due to riba reduction to 600 after anemia development. Was early responder both treatment times. Und at week 3. Viral load 11.8 stage 2(3 of 6) in March biopsy.
1684282 tn?1505701570 ) Well over thirty million tramadol prescriptions were dispensed in US pharmacies alone last year according to government statistics and those numbers continue to rise. But not only is it widely available by prescription, anyone, even teenagers or children can obtain tramadol simply by clicking the computer. Incredibly, it is there on hundreds of websites, some without prescriptions at all for as low as few pennies a pill.
Avatar n tn I have back aches and cramps but always thought it was osteoarthritis. Wear and tear arthritis due to aging. I'm not sure. As for as the swelling in your ankles, Wal-mart carries a sock for diabetics with a loose top so that it won't leave indentations. My father has kidney failure, mother-in-law had a stroke, and the socks work great for their ankles. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn report even mentioning its use much less giving statistics on effecacy. : There is one report which mentions the use of the MT ratio on MRI(Magnetisation transfer) : to help differentiate MS from other disease processes. : This is a specialized radiological technique, which you would need to discuss with a radiologist.
Avatar n tn I have not found a single report in the literature regarding its use to differentiate MS from Lyme disease, it is well known that these conditions may be indistinguishable on MRI scan but there is no report even mentioning its use much less giving statistics on effecacy. There is one report which mentions the use of the MT ratio on MRI(Magnetisation transfer) to help differentiate MS from other disease processes.
Avatar f tn After reading the symptoms associated with nightshade consumption, it is easy to understand why one of the major problems attributed to nightshade is arthritis. Arthritis is also the most common disability in the U.S. (4,5) Statistics from a 2007-2009 study show that doctor diagnosed arthritis affects 49.9 million people in the United States alone (6).  Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis affecting more than 20 million people.
238010 tn?1420409872 and then it will be time to persue and battle my osteoarthritis!! (vbg). I didn't get a chance to see Anne at my last visit with the hep doc..the woman is a peach. Keep me posted, and best of luck.... hey, by the way, the pic in my profile is taken from here, looking in your direction-well maybe a bit toward Curtis' ribs...
394687 tn?1290924440 It's a painful decision, deciding whether to continue or not. This is a decision that only you can make, of course. Getting some feedback and statistics never hurts, and I like what I've read here so far... I will be checking my 3-month VL next week and am hoping that I may have eeked out an SVR after my shortened course... (I LOVED hearing that someone cleared permanently after only 19 days!!!! I know this is not the norm, but it helps me stay hopeful...
356518 tn?1322267242 Sandee brings up a good point. Attitude is everything. Statistics say cancer and other grave illnesses have higher survival rates and faster healing in those that laugh and are optimistic. Healing is enhanced when one is positive and again....laughs a lot. We all know it is difficult some days to be positive. But we need to find things that make us smile and bring joy into out lives everyday. Laughter release endorphins and speeds the bodies healing process.
Avatar n tn By the way, you can't just make up statistics like you do "35% have these problems" was what you said I believe, what hat did you pull those stats out of? This type of thing is why doctors steer their patients AWAY from the net because it creates unfounded and unnecessary fear in newly diagnosed patients and a lot of the "information" is not correct or like these statistics, completely made up. It decreases our credibility.
Avatar n tn I am shocked at the statistics I hear of all the young girls in their early 20s getting fibroids nowadays. It is because of excess estrogen in our drinking water supplies, food supplies, and because everyone is on the pill. I eat an organic diet now with lots of fruits and veghetables. This helps your liver to function better at filtering excesses of estrogen. All I can do now is pray. I will never trust the FDA nor drug-pushing physicians.
579125 tn?1251579865 I have not started tx yet, I am taking my time deciding when to tx. I need to educate myself, I have advanced osteoarthritis, so I'm taking my time. Thanks in large part to ppl on this forum I am proceeding with caution. I am a 1a as well and last blood work showed a VL of 4.5 million, that was a year ago. I just had an ultrasound and that came back well, no masses. My last bx showed that I was a grade and stage 1 to focally a 2. My last biopsy was in 6/2005, I may have another one done.
Avatar n tn My last conversation with them I was told that they prefer to see patients that come in, get fixed and then go away after the 6 month post-op exam. I chose this physician because his statistics were the best I could find. But now, I find that he conducts his business as "cookie-cutter surgery". I am afraid that I will be looking for a new physician again. I have been to 5 different doctors so far. I truly emphasize with anyone who is in this situation.
