Osteoarthritis quadriceps strength

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis quadriceps strength

osteoarthritis

Avatar f tn I have always had great muscular quadriceps. I had a knee injury last year and now I have arthritis in my right knee. I went through therapy a year ago, but my right quadricep does not look like my left quadricep. My question is: How do I build the muscles back up in my quadriceps (as a matter of fact, my entire thigh area)?
Avatar m tn There was blunt force trauma to my quad tendon close to insertion of vastus medialis, rectus femoris and vastus intermedius. I cannot activate the quadriceps muscle in certain areas due to the injury. The strength of my injured leg is about 60 - 70% of my uninjured leg. Stretching seems to pull the muscle away from the tear site, resulting in decrease in strength and some pain. Most exercises put tension on the tendon and cause the muscle to pull away from where the tear occurred.
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis in both knees and had surgery awhile ago. What can I do for exercise other than walking, which I do every day at work etc. Please help if you can, thank you.
Avatar n tn • Grade 3 Injury The Tibial Plateau moves backwards to lie behind the Femoral Condyles Patients who have grade 1 or 2 PCL injuries should first receive non-operative treatment that includes aggressive quadriceps strengthening and full range-of-movement maintenance. Patients may return to sports when quadriceps and hamstring strength reaches 90% of the opposite side. This may take as long as 4-6 weeks. Patients who have grade 3 injuries should be treated with PCL reconstruction.
Avatar m tn While the pain from the arthritis is mainly gone I am experiencing much tightness and numbness in the knee. Combined with limited strength in my quadricep I have a much difficulty climbing any steps. I am working with a physical therapists but still am frustrated about the limited success. Any thoughts about this. The surgeon looked at the knee through xrays and felt things are going fine.
Avatar f tn Hello, If the pain is above the knee cap the most common reason might be due to injury to quadriceps muscle or tendon involvement. As you did not have any injury but as you exercise regularly I still would like to suggest you to rule out ligament or tendon injuries by an MRI of the knee. Systemic diseases can give rise to knee problems without injuries like Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatic fever, septic arthritis etc.
Avatar n tn The next step in treatment is a physical therapy program that should emphasize strengthening and flexibility of the quadriceps and hamstring muscle groups. Majority patient’s recover without surgery. In case conservative treatment fails, then procedures like lateral release can be performed. Also there is need for activity modification after surgery. Discuss with your doctor regarding the above mentioned options. Best.
Avatar n tn The Patella bone is a bone in the tendon of the Quadriceps. The tendon of the Quadriceps is attached to the tibial tuberosity of the tibia bone. The Quadriceps consists of Rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis & vastus intermedius. So if your Quadriceps are tight obviously your knee will feel weak and chances of the inflammation and fatigue might be there in your calves as well. Take care!
Avatar f tn You should be focusing on strengthening your quadriceps muscles for stability in the patellofemoral joint. Until adequate strength is attained you should only be using a stationary bike to avoid increased forces on the knee joint and to help avoid pain.
1175033 tn?1492201228 My mom always tells me this story about the doctors telling her to put 3 or so diapers on me to support everything while I was getting more strength in my hips. I went to Shriners hospital when I was 13ish, and one of the doctors there told me that I could need hip replacements by the age of 35. I didnt want to believe him, but now I starting to realize why he said that. I also have noticed reoccurring pains in alot of my joints along with stiffness and muscle spasms.
Avatar n tn the most I can bend is like 90 degrees, after that, I feel a bad pull in my quadriceps muscles. My quadriceps muscles have swollen just above my knee cap. There is no color or pain. It is just that I feel a bad pull when I bend my knee, its swollen, difficult to walk because of the knee bending problem, there is no pain on the swollen part, but it hurts my quadriceps muscles when I try to bend my knee. Please give me a solution to this problem. I will be more than grateful.
Avatar n tn Pain in the knee cap usually refers to injury or under development of patella. Conditions causing this could be patellar bursitis, chodromalacia, patellar and quadriceps tendon rupture, fracture of the patella, subluxation and dislocation of patella. In your case, it is injury due to over use. It could most likely be pre-patellar bursitis, which causes pain during movement, limited movement and swelling.
Avatar m tn ‘Line of weight bearing falling anterior to the sacral promontory’ would indicate an abnormal spinal curvature which could be the cause or the result of osteoarthritis. Some degree of osteoarthritis is expected with age which can worsen post-menopause, being overweight, improper posture, lack of physical exercise/ muscle strength, chronic trauma, diabetes etc., which causes degeneration of the joint and associated inflammation that causes pain. The acute injury is unlikely to be related to it.
Avatar n tn You can strengthen your hip area with a brisk warm up cardio, jog/bike preferably (low impact) then a good 5-10min of slow stretching of the hamstring, quadriceps, hip ADductor and hip ABductor muscles (do not bounce the stretch!). Then concentrate on doing some light resistance training on those muscle groups. Being limber and flexible is just as important as strength in the grand scheme of things.

Avatar f tn You should be careful and should avoid any injuries, avoid direct stress to your quadriceps tendon and also should avoid steroid injections. Avoid simultaneous quadriceps contraction and also stretching of the muscle. Take care!
Avatar m tn I also feel sharp pains (not cramps) in my quadriceps, sometimes burning, sometimes cold sensations. Its mostly the right one, but occasionally the left. I do notice I feel them more when I think about them. I go to the gym and am still strong, haven't lost any strength. Overall, could this be related to a lumbar/spine issue? Fibromyalgia? Nerve compression? Or bad posture with age? Im 30, and used to get calf cramps all the time (and my mom and grandmother have Restless Leg Syndrome).
Avatar n tn I have had pain in my hips and knees for the past three years i thought i was just overdoing it with walking etc and would stop for a while and start again but in the past three months iv been in terrible pain and had to take pain killers every day i went to my Doctor and he said it probably was osteoarthritis and you can expect that as you get older im a 49 year old female, i was not happy to think that was all i could do put up with it as im a very active person and i found that if i walked i

I've been told though that it's Fibromyalgia and I've been diagnosed in the past as having TMJ and Osteoarthritis. I have severe neck musle pain periodily, not always but it happens. Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
