Avatar n tn well then get anti-inflammatories from doc. Not sure what your age is, but over this side of the 'pond' there is a lot of interest in glucosamine+chondroitin+ omega3 combo's as a retardent/help for the disease; best began at an earlier phase I believe. Do you no harm to check them out with your health professionals...they were recommended to me. I personally don't like to take too much of any one strong med for a protracted period so I swap over to strong aspirin periodically.

Avatar m tn The goal of a wrist fusion is to get the radius in the forearm, the carpal bones of the wrist, and the metacarpals of the hand to fuse into one long bone. The ulna of the forearm is not included in the fusion. The joints between the ulna and the radius are what allows you to turn the palm of your hand up and down. By not fusing the ulna, you should still be able to rotate your hand. However, you will not be able to bend your wrist after the operation.
1091980 tn?1295545031 ) I also had the grind test which was very painful at the base of the thumb and at the front of my wrist. I have been given a cortizone injection a few weeks ago but still experience the above symptoms. However, the area which was swollen for months I have tried the epl test and cannot raise my thumb very far from the table. Is all this happening from arthritis at the base of the thumb? I am concerned as I seem to be experiencing more symptoms as time passes.
Avatar n tn Arthritic conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, fractures, dislocations, or long-time instability of the wrist bones can destroy all or most of the cartilage that forms the smooth surface of the many wrist bones. When that happens, the wrist becomes painful and loses motion When the pain and functional impairment keeps you from your daily activities, you may seek the advice of your physician. You may consider wrist replacement surgery. The surgery is complicated.
152264 tn?1280358257 Lupus comes to mind as it has connective tissue disease as one of the symptoms. My daughter has cartilage problems with Lupus. Hope this information was helpful...
Avatar n tn the pain i had came from bone on bone which the doctor said i had osteoarthritis which came from my cartilage being destroyed. my wrist was so painful that it hurt to lift a full cup of coffee, i was waking in the middle of the night from pain. I would suggest asking your doctor that you would like a MRI with contrast (dye). that should clearly tell your doctor or the radiologist if you have any soft tissue damage to your hand.
Avatar n tn These three bones form a triangle on the thumb side of the wrist. The fusion holds these bones in place when pressure or load is put on the wrist.
Avatar f tn She has, for the last month had intermitent pain in her right wrist, feeling of numbness but not totally numb from the wrist bone to the ring and pinky finger but only on that side of her wrist, inflammation on the outside of her wrist, with inflammation of the hand, and she cannot grip or hold anything, and she can feel heat but not coldness on the outside of her hand. I would like to know what could be wrong with her. She cannot go to the doctor because of insurance issues.
Avatar f tn every time i ask a dr they just say its stress or a virus, but I'm doubting this and id like to get to the bottom of it. if anyone has these symptoms and bass been diagnosed or know what this sounds like, id really appreciate it!!!
Avatar f tn I get sharp, shooting pains across the back of that side of the wrist that run up into the back of the hand and into the lower arm. Sometimes the pain goes all the way across the elbow into my upper arm. But it never goes into the shoulder. The pain is worse with my palm pointing either toward the floor or toward the midline of the body. Rotating the palm upward or away from the midline causes slightly less pain. I do not notice any difference in pain if my elbow is straight or bent.
Avatar n tn I have seen two doctors in the past who gave no warning and were surprised at the WD symptoms on abrupt discontinuation of antidepressants. I have also read accounts on this forum of the same thing happening to forum members. I think many doctors have far less information about these drugs than we believe. THAT is dangerous in itself. Just think how little they really know about interferon! Thanks for your synopsis. Well put!
Avatar f tn I was once diagnosed with headaches, neck pain, arm pain and De Quervain's tenosynovitis - could these have been misdiagnoses and actually the pain, headaches, arm pain, wrist pain, and hand weakness been a result of the beginnings on C5 and C6 nerve compression and osteoarthritis? Any assistance and reference materials regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
1477978 tn?1289505731 did say along with the Lupus, I also had a bit of OA or Osteoarthritis. They said when a flare from OA would come that my immune system starts attacking the OA flare, making it worse. Another symptom, I don't heal well from things like getting a tooth pulled (takes sometimes months to heal & stop hurting). I hardly ever get sick but when I do it is extreme. Mostly all I've been really sick from in the past is Strep Throat, and Sinus Infections, a couple of times I had Pnumonia.

523861 tn?1212281020 I have a lot of similar symptoms. Sounds like it could be fibromyalgia. Could also be rheumatoid arthritis. I have a problem with my knees also. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knees and fibromyalgia. I get a lot of the pain and swelling in my hands and fingers, wrists also. My back and neck hurt a lot. I went to two different rheumatologists, and was given some help, but not anything that really takes the pain and sore feeling away. I have good days and bad.
Avatar m tn My mother has recently experience these symptoms: shoulder, wrist, hip, knee pain. Plus, in the mornings sometimes she can't make a fist, and experiences "buzzing" in her joints throughout the day. Especially her hands. She also experiences a great deal of back pain and she bruises easily. She has been tested for parvo, limes disease, arthritis and lupis. no luck yet. she also can be quite thirsty throughout the day.... any idea?! she has been given naproxen as a pain killer.
527589 tn?1301681778 Since you have bone spurs, osteoarthritis and cervical stenosis, the symptoms are being aggravated. Please get an MRI of the brain. In fact you may need a series of MRI to diagnose to rule out MS. I think you have not consulted a neurologist so far and that is why you have been made to run around. Please take the MRI reports of brain, pelvic region and spine and consult a good neurologist.
956292 tn?1334058469 After an unsuccessful LP in which the hospital did not do required samples neeeded, (we were hoping for this to tell us more) my doc is looking for me to have a flare or change on MRI for a definitive dx of MS and start a DMD treatment So I guess my question is if he can not start me on DMD..at this appt., is it possible to ask for tx.
873610 tn?1239918613 I have mild neck pain on my right side could this be related? What could be causing these continued/ worsening symptoms? And what kind of treatment or medication is most effective for ulnar nerve pain?
Avatar n tn Started with just my shoulders cracking and grinding all of the sudden in the mornings, then often when I moved them, and now my body sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies whenever I move it around (especially after being in one place for a while, I think). Mine is part of a huge set of symptoms, though. I've been tentatively diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Some of the symptoms some of you were listing are things that I have read as sometimes connected to CFS or Fibromyalgia.
Avatar n tn I am a 24 year old female from Sydney Australia, and i just want to say that i can relate to everything that all of you have stated as symptoms of thalassemia Minor. When i was 12 years old i began getting these really intense migrains and i would loose my vision to the point that all i could see was like a white sheet over my eyes, i though i was going blind...
Avatar n tn The symptom of yours that stands out to me is the symmetry of your hand problems. Also Osteoarthritis is usually more prevalent in the last joint at the finger tip but I certainly am not a Dr. It is also not usually symmetrical. Take care and let us know.
Avatar n tn Clicking is painless though - Experiencing what I think is stiff knees in the morning - No obvious swelling or tenderness - No warmth or redness - dull ache has now spread to my wrist, both ankles, elbows, hands, feet and hips - none of which are as severe as the knee ache and so far no feeling of stiffness in these joints - Also experiencing pain on the outer side of my heel which is worse when resting - also getting mild dull ache in shins Does this sound like some sort of sudden onset art
Avatar f tn im just so tired and don't want to even think about what I am going through. thanks for being there for me. good luck to all of you and the best of health. I don't know what to do. good luck.
Avatar n tn Aside from the joint pain, what other symptoms are present? Joint pain can be caused by a variety of issues such as injuries, autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, gout, infections, osteoarthritis, as well as tendinitis. To determine the underlying cause, further evaluation may need to be done such as CBC or blood differential, C-reactive protein, Joint x-ray, sedimentation rate and other blood tests specific to various autoimmune disorders.
Avatar n tn I will answer your concerns to the best of my abilities, but please be informed that I am unable to offer a diagnosis based on your history and list of symptoms. I am extremely limited in not having the opportunity to perform a full neurologic examination on you, nor am I able to review the pertinent imaging. This is solely for educational purposes and should in no way be a substitute for a formal evaluation by a certified physician.
Avatar m tn Hi, I currently have a shooting pain sent along the top of my left hand down my index finger if I rub (gently) my finger on the righthand side of my wrist. (Palm facing down) This started 2 weeks ago but there has been no change to my usual activities that might have caused this.
Avatar f tn Hi! I am not sure what your question is, but gout and osteoarthritis itself can cause ankle, wrist, shoulder and elbow stiffness. This can result in whole right arm stiffness. Lupus usually causes more generalized symptoms like fatigue, rashes, numbness, tingling, fever etc. It does not cause symptoms restricted to joints.
