Avatar n tn lo Josepha, there's a reasonable chance you have developed arthritis ok....but of course you should confirm with docs. As for meds....the doc may prescribe any number of anti-inflammatories...trial and error for what suits you best really. If you get pain in the area when working it...I suppose the only answer is your body is telling you to give it a rest. If heat relieves the pain then go for it. If the joints are inflamed regularly...well then get anti-inflammatories from doc.
523861 tn?1212277420 I have a lot of similar symptoms. Sounds like it could be fibromyalgia. Could also be rheumatoid arthritis. I have a problem with my knees also. I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in my knees and fibromyalgia. I get a lot of the pain and swelling in my hands and fingers, wrists also. My back and neck hurt a lot. I went to two different rheumatologists, and was given some help, but not anything that really takes the pain and sore feeling away. I have good days and bad.
Avatar m tn Hello, A clinical examination is very essential for correct diagnosis and treatment of your symptoms. The common causes of your symptoms could possibly be ganglion cysts, rheumatoid arthritis, tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis and gout. In rheumatoid arthritis there is morning stiffness, joint pains and nodules under the skin. Ganglion cysts arise from the capsule of a joint or the sheath of a tendon.
Avatar m tn The goal of a wrist fusion is to get the radius in the forearm, the carpal bones of the wrist, and the metacarpals of the hand to fuse into one long bone. The ulna of the forearm is not included in the fusion. The joints between the ulna and the radius are what allows you to turn the palm of your hand up and down. By not fusing the ulna, you should still be able to rotate your hand. However, you will not be able to bend your wrist after the operation.
Avatar n tn Since the thumb twitches uncontrollably, symptoms could be due to carpal tunnel syndrome. In this the median nerve is compressed at the wrist in a place called the carpel tunnel. Symptoms begin with numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side (twitch is also possible). Nerve conduction studies are quite diagnostic. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections. Surgery may be required in some cases.

Avatar m tn My mother has recently experience these symptoms: shoulder, wrist, hip, knee pain. Plus, in the mornings sometimes she can't make a fist, and experiences "buzzing" in her joints throughout the day. Especially her hands. She also experiences a great deal of back pain and she bruises easily. She has been tested for parvo, limes disease, arthritis and lupis. no luck yet. she also can be quite thirsty throughout the day.... any idea?! she has been given naproxen as a pain killer.
Avatar f tn However, I was on mobic for my wrist and that did not help at all so I had to get a cortisone shot in my wrist. It seemed to help, but the pain is already back and stronger than ever. Now I have a cold, wet feeling in my thumb. I grabbed a random photo off the Net and circled the place as to where I feel that sort of feeling. I never had the feeling before. I'm also limited on my mobility and my right ankle is pretty swelled up as well.
Avatar f tn A clicking sound in a joint along with pain is a sign of arthritis. It can be rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout or a reactive arthritis to a drug or infection. You will need an X-ray of the joint along with other tests like RA factor and test for gout. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar f tn s tendonitis there will be redness, swelling and pain on the thumb side of wrist. If this is the case then diagnosis is almost confirmed. Diagnosis is further confirmed by Finkelstein test: A fisted hand is bent towards little finger causing immense pain. If splint, rest and anti-inflammatory are not helping then you will have to opt for surgery.

The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
1083310 tn?1260107282 The injections should help with the swelling and pain because all it is is lubrication to your joints so that bone to bone is not rubbing against each other. It helped my knees for about 6 weeks but not as much now.
Avatar m tn That is too young for osteoarthritis. Do you have any other symptoms beside joint pain? Maybe fatigue, dizziness, blurred vision, anything.
Avatar n tn Hello I'm a 29 year old male. My father, his sister, his mother and her aunt all had Rheumatoid Arthritis. My father's was Juvenile Onset and he passed in 05 due to complications. In 2006 my right knee started hurting. I finally went to see an Orthopedic doctor. After an x-ray and feeling the top of my knee he said "You have Osteoarthritis in your knee. It is definately not RA." Well just a couple of months ago my other knee started with the same problems. Just pain mostly.
1467506 tn?1286413017 Might it be from the FM or is it most likely not related? I have no numbness or any of the other symptoms that fit carpal tunnel so I'm thinking it is not that, but not sure. I have already been tested for rheumatoid arthritis and found negative. I do have osteoarthritis in my knees and back. While we're here - any one have pain on the top of their foot? Mine feels like I have broken bones in there but I know they could not be broken, just super tender and sore/achy.
Avatar f tn Hi there! If this is related to osteoarthritis of the fingers, you need to avoid tight gripping. For writing, wrap your pen with foam for an easier grip. For drinking, use a mug and wrap your hand around it for a larger, more stable grip. Cups with dainty handles are difficult to hold. Choose kitchen utensils with large and soft handles as these are easier to grip. These are just some examples on how to prevent tight gripping to prevent worsening of the condition. I hope this helps!
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.

518798 tn?1295212279 I thought the shoulder pain was causing my wrist and fingers to go numb, come to find out it was the wrist causing the shoulder pain. I am totally baffled. I go back on Monday for a nerve study to determine if I need surgery. I wished I would have gone to the doctor sooner so I could have healed before school starts back. Oh well, I will just pray that surgery is not necessary. Anywhoo, he gave me a script for mobic and tramadol.
