Osteoarthritis of fingers treatment

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis of fingers treatment

Avatar f tn Hello My Xray showed Osteoarthritis in my fingers and wrists. I knew I had Osteoarthritis in my fingers but not in my wrists. Is it unusual to have OA in wrists? http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff168/kjl07/Osteoarthritis/IMG_2638.
Avatar m tn Diagnosis can often be made with reasonable certainty by clinical examination. Confirmation can be done through x-rays. Treatment of OA consists of exercise, manual therapy, lifestyle modification, medication and other interventions to alleviate pain. 2) Rheumatoid arthritis typically manifests with signs of inflammation, and the affected joints are swollen, warm, painful and stiff early in the morning on waking or following prolonged inactivity.
Avatar f tn Fingers stay swollen all day long. Main swelling is atop of the middle joint. A doctor at the clinic said osteoarthritis from xray. She gave me naproxen which I cannot take. What else can cause this and is NSAIDs the only line of treatment. Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn I'm wondering if there is anything new regarding the relationship between Femara and trigger fingers and arthritis of the hands? I've read some older posts but don't see anything current. I have been taking Femara since Dec 2009 and started having pain in my hands and trigger fingers two months ago (Feb, 2011) I had injections for the trigger fingers which seem to help and then not. The changes are making me crazy.
Avatar m tn The rest of the Hours i am very much annoyed due to pain in my both legs, right from back of the hips up to the tips of my feet fingers. Some times the pain is so severe that i keep on applying electric massager and do the exercises. 7. Here our Orthopaedic and Neuro specialist say that the surgery is not advanced in this country and the post operative complications are much more dangerous. Now please help me, I am your professional brother .
476246 tn?1418874514 I have alot of arthritis, fibromyalgia and joint pain My fingers at times and my knee at other times etc. One of my worst is nuropathy in my feet. I am going to try that hot and cold water. What do I have to lose? NOTHING! Anyone else out there have any good tips for me?
Avatar n tn I'm 45 and have had spells of this going on for about 10 years. In both hands, usually the palm-side of the fingers, but occasionally in the palm. I know when it's going to happen - can feel pressure, then it pops and you see blood under the skin and then it itches like crazy. Sometimes it's a hard blue marble under the skin. I have 3 that are permanently there (two in the same finger). It's almost never caused by anything - just happens. Occasionally it's when I grip something.
Avatar f tn TMJ stands for temporal mandibular joint (jaw joint) and my osteoarthritis is in my TMJs. There are also discs in the TMJs, and they can become displaced. One of mine is displaced with reduction, the other without reduction. The one 'with reduction' means it goes back into the right place, if I remember correctly, when I open my mouth. The one 'without reduction' for me remains in the wrong position- a forward position- whether my mouth is opened or closed.
Avatar n tn Tina, I can't help you with the question of if you get osteo effects from treatment, but I can tell you that I am on Actonel along with doing treatment. I developed osteoperosis at 42 years old and before treatment. I think that based on my experience, I would say that osteo effects (I also have osteoarthritis) may come from the hcv, not the treatment for hcv. That would just be my guess.
587787 tn?1218808059 The MRI showed DJD in the C-Spine and osteoarthritis with buldging disc and narrowing of the disc space but no compression of the nerves. Keep in mind the MRI was early in the morning, laying flat on a table with a towel roll under my neck, and a head stabilizer strapped to the back board. So I still wonder that if the headaches are worse as the day progresses, the weakness is worse, the numbness of my face, tingling of my fingers and feet.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
159785 tn?1276229625 Thank you for the input, goolarra and super sally! I'm feeling sort of disregarded by my new doctor, after all these years of feeling sick and being told nothing was wrong. The synthroid was increased from 37.5 to 50 mcg. On that dosage, the TSH went from 4.5 to 1.4 in four weeks. I don't know what the T3 and T4 were, but they're mailing me the report. I guess she decided that I'm stable since the values are okay, but it seems that one should follow a new patient for a bit longer.
Avatar n tn Symptoms begin with numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side (twitch is also possible). Nerve conduction studies are quite diagnostic. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections. Surgery may be required in some cases. This condition is common in those who use the key board, mouse etc a lot—like in computers or in typing jobs. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar f tn Arthritis symptoms very commonly emerge in the months FOLLOWING completion of INF combo therapy, sometimes accompanied by slight nervous system disorder (numbness, loss of balance / precision/ tremors). Actually, many of the worst lasting side effects emerge after completion of treatment. One's immune system gets jacked.
Avatar f tn Generally there is a history of elbow injury of some sort in the past, but it is not a must. Treatment is by aspiration of fluid and corticosteroid injection. Please consult an orthopedic specialist as a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net.
475586 tn?1225027354 These doctors are so obnoxious sometimes. I had to try several doctors myself before I found one that even listened to me, especially since my blood tests were all negative. Oh, the weight gain and fatigue could be from menopause also.
562597 tn?1254402341 Regarding your MRI report, it is not very common to have multiple areas of degeneration and herniated discs at 38 years of age, unless there is an underlying cause like arthritis, or osteoarthritis. However it is very important to know the severity of the damage, and this sometimes is under or overestimated in the reports.

Avatar f tn We just have to be positive, and I guess with joint pain we need to be positive too, though it's harder to get rid of it, we just need to thank God for the great things He gives us, and this new era of Hep C treatment is one of them. Thank you for letting me know your experience, I will now go to my appointment with a little more input as to what to expect. I will definitely not take anything that can harm my liver, even if it means getting rid of the joint pain.
Avatar n tn So while studies suggest those of us with HCV as a whole may have a higher incidence of some of the symptons, on an individual basis it's very hard to know whether what you have is being caused by the virus or whether you'd be that way anyway. Hope this helps and btw there are no doctors here.
Avatar n tn Dolph, Stimulant therapy is a useful adjunct to opioid therapy in the treatment of chronic pain. Here's an introduction to the subject by an experienced and highly respected pain doctor: http://www.practicalpainmanagement.

1183618 tn?1277368706 Celiac is another autoimmune disease that you'll want to look into, because vitamin D deficiency is an issue for people with Celiac as well. And, people with Celiac are at risk of developing RA and osteoarthritis and osteoporosis at a younger age than others might develop it. No reason to panic if you have Celiac, but you do need to be aware of it. I do have an autoimmune disorder in my skin. This is common for both Fibromyalgia and Celiac. Many advance from eczema to psoriasis.
1711722 tn?1356491154 Arthritis -- Recently woke up with 8 of my fingers in pain; Osteoarthritis Vertigo -- Extremely more intense and more frequent Cycle -- Noticeably different during tx and pushed me into Pre-Menopause symptoms quicker than expected Eyes -- Back to back infections (went to Urgent Care for a 2nd opinion); pain; vision changes (ordinary aging but excelerated) Yes, my doctors are aware of these issues, but say it is not (now) due to the tx meds.
Avatar n tn My brother has an extremely noticeable indentation on the top of the crown of his head if you run your fingers across it. Our reasoning is that when he was younger (age 4 or 5) he slept on the floor between my sister's & my twin beds and in the middle of the night his head got wedged under a bed frame and the floor.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am a 16 year old male and have been having pain, aches, and stiffness in many joints. The main spots of discomfort are my; knees, elbows, wrists, hands, fingers (all joints excluding the pinkie fingers), hips, ankles, upper spine, and neck. Background: This began with just my spine and hips a year and a half ago. I went to a back specialist about a year ago and he found that my hips were severely unaligned and thought that my back pains were a result of stress from the hips.
Avatar f tn When you yawn, you probably already know to hold your chin with a couple of fingers or something to keep from going too wide. Also, you might want to limit your intake of sugar for right now, as sugar I've heard is not a good thing for inflammation.
