osteoarthritis

Avatar f tn Treatment of Osteoarthritis consists of exercise, manual therapy, lifestyle modification, medication and other interventions to alleviate pain. If these fail then you go for surgery. Joint replacement surgery may be required. Individuals with very painful OA joints may require surgery such as fragment removal, repositioning bones, or fusing bone to increase stability and reduce pain.

587778 tn?1261397118 I know that swelling and pain accompanies osteoarthritis, but the doctor said that it was mild and that I can continue to exercise (Cycling). It does not matter if I am standing, sitting, walking, or lying down, I am in pain constantly for the last week. I am wondering if I have re-injured my knee or is this how mild osteoarthritis feels?
Avatar m tn Pain relief from active TENS and AL-TENS treatment was significantly better than placebo treatment. Knee stiffness also improved significantly in active treatment group compared to placebo. Different modes of TENS setting (High Rate and Strong Burst Mode TENS) demonstrated a significant benefit in pain relief of the knee OA over placebo. Avatar f tn I have had mild osteoarthritis in my right hand, of and on. Now I have knee pain, both knees, elbow pain, foot pain (orthotics (4 diff pairs) haven't helped). Not severe enough to take meds. Have been sleeping on a magnetic mat for 3 years. Doesn't seem to help. Have been going to osteopath, masseur, acupuncturist, nutritionist (treating inflammation). No real relief. Other issue (related?) is poor blood circulation (circulatory disorder). Not overweight (120lbs at 5'4.
Avatar n tn Hi it is my first time ever posting on a forum, i need help and advise as to the best way to get help and treatment for pain that im in.
Avatar f tn Exercise can help reduce stiffness and pain, and it can also help you lose weight, which takes pressure off aching joints. Losing as few pounds can cut the risk of developing knee osteoarthritis by 50% for some women. Although OA typically affects the knees, your hips, hands, lower back, and neck may also be affected. Always ask your doctor before doing any exercise! Warming up with gentle stretching can help get your body ready for your workout.

3202871 tn?1352129777 I found that gradually increasing exercise helped my muscles regain their strength. I have no fatigue since finishing treatment. However, gradually increasing exercise may help the fatigue. You are only 7 months out from end of treatment so you probably should give yourself some time. You should continue to improve as the weeks and months go by. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn Aside from weight reduction and avoiding activities that exert excessive stress on the joint cartilage, there is no specific treatment to halt cartilage degeneration or to repair damaged cartilage in osteoarthritis for your stage of problem. Applying local heat before and cold packs after exercise can help relieve pain and inflammation for you.
Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.

16237877 tn?1446544835 I love doing squats but, for about a year and half, i have not been able to perform this exercise because my left knee hurts. Each time I try to squat, there's a clicking sound in my left knee and, it hurts bad. As a result, even when I try, my right leg carries all the weight and, i don't feel the impact of the exercise on my quads. What can i do to remedy this situation or, how can i train my quads without squats?
Avatar f tn My dog tore the tendon in his left knee in the back. He had previously torn the tendon in his right knee. Both times we used conservative treatment and the knee healed. We don't allow (although he doesn't always listen) jumping up and we've blocked off the stairs. We also only let him out in the yard and don't take him for long walks. Should he be taken on longer walks? or do I continue with the conservative care guidelines. We can't afford to take him back to the vet yet.

( X-rays and MRI ) I would suggest you to continue physical exercise with proper footwear and also limit pressure at your knee. You can go for swimming if you can and also follow up with an orthopedician for proper diagnosis and try to achieve normal BMI. Take care!
Avatar f tn I have not heard anything about a new procedure but I did hear that there is a new pain medication called Nucynta (Tapentadol) which is a mu-opiod agonist analgesic. It is structurally similar to Tramadol.
Avatar n tn I had LEFT knee arthroscopy for torn meniscus . the doctor says I have arthritis behind the front of the knee and he repaired the torn tendons, and said after recovery he would treat the arthritis in the office. I started physical therapy two and a half weeks ago, but now I have developed a pain on the outside of the RIGHT buttock or hip..
Avatar f tn 14 Months ago I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in both knees and Buritis in my hips. It came on suddenly and it is very painful. I have seen 2 specialists and have had 2 lots of steroid injections in both knees and one steroid injection in my right hip. I have been taking Meloxicam and painkillers. Today I have been to see a specialist with the view to having knee replacement surgery. After looking at my recent x rays he has informed me that I have Avascular Necrosis in both knees.
Avatar n tn I've had this knee pain (left and right) for almost a yr already. The symptoms are as follows: Grinding / grating sensation upon flexing the knee. Aching pain at and below the patella. Difficulty straightening the knee. Pain is most servere when putting weight or pressure on it. Pain can be felt when climbing up the stairs, jumping, running and standing for prolonged periods. In addition, pain can be felt behind the knee cap.
Avatar n tn If i have muscle pain in about every muscle in my body , and I also have osteoarthritis all through my spine could this be from the ostesoarthritis or would it be something like muscle atrophy, and is there any thing that can be done for it. i am never pain free.
Avatar f tn Hi there :) have flare-up of osteoarthritis in knee after being diagnosed formally when I had an arthroscopy a few months ago. Just wondered how long pain and subsequently being out of action may last for? Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. Thank you so much.
Avatar n tn The knee problem might be related to a torn miniscus(the disc in between the knee joint that softens impact and makes movement more fluid) I have torn both of my miniscus when leg pressing 1600lbs. You said you've had mri's done on your shoulder, what about your neck? If not, get your orthopedic doctor to authorize an MRI of the neck w/o contrast. As for the shoulder, I don't really have a definitive answer, maybe a rotator cuff injury...Don't qoute me on that one.LOL Good luck.
