1459410 tn?1285698605 Im in PT to help as well but if anyone would like to share a short summary of their story from pre-diag symptoms through successful treatment, I would really like to see how the different docs have handled your speciific case. The most effective thing Ive done on my own was recently bought an herbal cream that has capsicum in it whihc has done more than any of the other pharma routes. Its still kinda unbearable but Ive at least noticed it being somewhat alleviated.
Avatar m tn I've also started to notice some tenderness in my elbow joints when resting my elbows on a table, and my knee joints have been a bit stiff and sore after using my exercise bike. I notice the pain in my feet the most when I first get up in the morning, It's less noticable as the day goes on. The hand pain I notice throughout the day. I have always had an office job, so I'm surprised that my joints would have had enough wear and tear to cause osteoarthritis.

Avatar f tn I would recommend your mother schedule an appointment with her doctor prior to continuing self-treatment. Her doctor may order blood tests, and/or x-rays of the knee joint. Your mother should be evaluated for osteoarthritis; common risk factors are age over 50, and female gender. Your mother should discuss physical or occupational therapy with her doctor. It might also be helpful for you mother to start an exercise program, to improve function of the knee.
Avatar f tn Try to understand that if she has osteoarthritis then the only cure is total knee replacement and all these avenues are for short term relief. Tell her to cut down her weight if she is overweight and start physical exercise in sitting and sleeping positions so that she will be ready for her future surgery which involves lots of physiotherapy. Take care!
Avatar m tn A good one is on the Lance Armstrong web site. IMO, cycling is a good exercise even if you have knee problems. Before my father-in-law had his knees replaced, cycling was his main form of exercise - walking was too painful. His doctors encouraged him to keep it up and as a result his surgeries went very, very well. He still cycles, and can now play golf and dance with his lovely wife without pain. He's the poster boy for successful knee surgery.
387767 tn?1345875627 Knee pain has many causes, including pathologic processes in the knee and disorders in distant locations with referral to the knee area. Can you tell me when this pain is more? Do you experience any grinding, locking, catching, or giving way of the knee? When did your pain begin, what were you doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms?
1378884 tn?1315509445 When first diagnosed I could not walk up a flight of stairs due to the intense general knee pain. Now it comes back intermittently for a day or two then it subsides but does not fully go away. I have also felt like I cannot stretch my tendons in my legs enough even after warming them up and stretching for 30 min. I am 55 and have done many bad things to my knees over the years but nothing like this has happened before. It's as if the tendons and muscles around my knees have lost all strength.
Avatar f tn Treatment of Osteoarthritis consists of exercise, manual therapy, lifestyle modification, medication and other interventions to alleviate pain. If these fail then you go for surgery. Joint replacement surgery may be required. Individuals with very painful OA joints may require surgery such as fragment removal, repositioning bones, or fusing bone to increase stability and reduce pain.
Avatar f tn Hello. Though physical therapy is useful in osteoarthritis, several trials have found that physical therapy is only mildly or moderately useful. Different individuals respond differently to physical therapy. There are certain exercises, which should be learnt from a physical therapist. Following are some techniques, which I have mentioned here from the article "Role of physical therapy in management of knee osteoarthritis" by G. Kelley Fitzgerald and Carol Oatis.
Avatar m tn I agree that there are multiple causes of knee and back pain. I will offer what I have learned about knee and back pain. Degenerative diseases like Degenerative Disc Disease of the back and Degenerative Joint Disease can lead to arthritis. Arthritis is an inflamation and degeneration is a tearing down so to speak of parts of a joint, When the lining of the knee joint becomes inflamed it is sinovitis and this can become an arthritic joint..
Avatar f tn I have never had surgery on the knee, I have had no injury to the knee. I exercise moderately and am not considered overweight--well at least for a 53 year old man--but I was riding a stationary bike more frequently (4-5 x per week) and at a higher resistance level for a few month before this pain. If anyone knows what this is, any contribution to this thread would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn Your doctor may order tests, such as an MRI, to see a picture of the inside of your knee. treatment? A Baker's cyst may go away on its own. If arthritis or another problem is causing the Baker's cyst, your doctor may treat that problem. This usually makes the pain and swelling of a Baker's cyst go away. If a cyst does not go away, or if it is causing a lot of pain, your doctor may drain the fluid with a needle. You also may be given a shot of steroid medicine to reduce swelling.
3202871 tn?1352133377 I found that gradually increasing exercise helped my muscles regain their strength. I have no fatigue since finishing treatment. However, gradually increasing exercise may help the fatigue. You are only 7 months out from end of treatment so you probably should give yourself some time. You should continue to improve as the weeks and months go by. Best of luck.
587778 tn?1261400718 I know that swelling and pain accompanies osteoarthritis, but the doctor said that it was mild and that I can continue to exercise (Cycling). It does not matter if I am standing, sitting, walking, or lying down, I am in pain constantly for the last week. I am wondering if I have re-injured my knee or is this how mild osteoarthritis feels?
Avatar n tn I had the scope because of osteoarthritis of the knee with severe osteoarthritis of the patellofemoral joint and was hoping the surgery would buy me a few more years to work. This was a big mistake because I am in more pain now than before the surgery.
16237877 tn?1446548435 I love doing squats but, for about a year and half, i have not been able to perform this exercise because my left knee hurts. Each time I try to squat, there's a clicking sound in my left knee and, it hurts bad. As a result, even when I try, my right leg carries all the weight and, i don't feel the impact of the exercise on my quads. What can i do to remedy this situation or, how can i train my quads without squats?
Avatar n tn weather changes or i get sick.. my legs and joints ache. this never happened before treatment. Avatar n tn Your symptoms of grinding, popping and stiffness indeed suggest that you are having osteoarthritis. Any grinding is characteristic of osteoarthritis; locking and catching are characteristic of meniscus injuries and osteochondritis dissecans (meniscus injuries are much more common than osteochondritis dissecans); and giving way is more characteristic of ligamentous injuries.
Avatar m tn By this time, my mom became very weak. Her knee pain started to worry her and not able to stand and walk as knee is hurting her a lot. It started at left leg and passed to right leg. 159785 tn?1276229625 I found that it was the inflammation causing pain with osteoarthritis in my injured knee when my good knee got red and swollen from twisting with a heavy load. Cut out the night-shade family (tomatoes, etc.)...had already quit sugar & white flour years before. All those cause inflammation, too. Then I added ginger and voila! Both knees quit hurting, and my back too. I also have scoliosis and osteoporosis and Lupus and irregular heartbeats (magnesium helps) and...
Avatar n tn Hi it is my first time ever posting on a forum, i need help and advise as to the best way to get help and treatment for pain that im in.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar n tn Hello; for the past few months I have been experiencing a pain in my knee, it is just to the outside of the patella. It is a very sharp pain, like an electrical shock. It happens totally at random. It can happen when I am walking, sitting, sleeping, etc. When the pain is not occurring, my knee feels completely normal. When it happens, it usually happens every few seconds or minutes, then stops for several hours. I am not aware of any injury or unusual stress to that area.

Avatar n tn My husband who is 70 had a total knee replacement 6 weeks ago and the pain seems to be intensifying rather than diminishing. He had a childhood injury to this knee, then another operation 13 years ago but is crying with the pain most of the time and has gone from ordinary pain killers to needing morphine. He has physiotherapy 3 times per week, also hydrotherapy and acupuncture, they all say he is making some progress but very slowly and keep telling him exercising will relieve the pain.
Avatar n tn I am post treatment with Pegintron/ribavirin tx. Clear of virus for 13 months now. About 2-3 months after treatment I started getting hip, knee, foot and back pain which has continued to worsen over the months. At first, after getting off treatment, I felt good. I could walk a little ways and do a few things. It seems that as time goes on, I continue to get worse as far as joint pain and emotional stability. Like your wife, there are no supportive medical findings.
Avatar n tn between the bones of the joints. Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthritis. Treatment includes reduction of weight, exercise and support devices like splints, canes, walkers, and braces.Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen are used for pain relief. Some studies, but not all, have suggested that the food supplements glucosamine and chondroitin can relieve symptoms of pain and stiffness for some persons with osteoarthritis.
