Avatar n tn In osteoarthritis, basically bone is rubbing on bone so deterioration will continue even though the cortisone temporarily makes it feel better. The doctor may recommend trying something like Synvisc, which is a material injected into the knee to provide temporary cushioning, like a temporary replacement for cartilage. My father in law had this done and it did provide relief for a while, but again this may only put off surgery for an additional couple years.
Avatar n tn Front to back movement was very good, Pain developed on medial side of knee and the patella tendon when walking. When I move the knee or walk I can feel it 'clicking" and 'shooting" pain from the patella tendon The Doctor says that there is still some swelling in the knee. He has recommended synvisc treatments without ordering a new MRI. Will the synvisc reduce the pain and swelling? Is synvisc a curative or a temporary relief of symtoms? Are there any draw backs to synvisc?
Avatar n tn Hello Dac! Is that true? About knee pain... can it be side effect from RAI reatment? Do you remember where and when did you find this info.. If this is - side effect from RAI? My 24/ 7 knee pain and cracking noise. It can explain a lot of things. My knees pain started at the same time when my saliva glands start to swell time to time... And ENT doctor said --it is side effect from RAI. Maybe, maybe... Thank you very much for your idea. I did have TT and RAI 8 month ago.
Avatar n tn Glucosamine supplements are widely used for osteoarthritis, particularly knee osteoarthritis. In osteoarthritis, cartilage -- the rubbery material that cushions joints -- becomes stiff and loses its elasticity. This makes the joint prone to damage and may lead to pain, swelling, loss of movement, and further deterioration.
Avatar m tn How to Avoid Osteoporosis Osteoporosis, or porous bone, is a disease characterized by low bone mass and structural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to bone fragility and an increased susceptibility to fractures, especially of the hip, spine and wrist, although any bone can be affected. In simpler terms, osteoporosis is a condition in which the bones become weak and can break from a minor fall or, in serious cases, from a simple action such as a sneeze.
Avatar m tn There's also loss and splitting or cracking of the articular cartilage ( the soft cushioning protective tissue between the femur, the knee cap -patella- and the tibia bone, which are the bones involved in the knee structure). This is attributed to moderate degenerative disease, meaning that there's no specific diagnosis, but suspect some moderate condition causing tissue deterioration, over time, such as osteoarthritis for example. Hope this helps and I wish you the best get this resolved.
Avatar f tn have AMD Both eyes, right eye worse, glaucoma in right eye; arthritis in R knee; surgery once already. R hip bursitis w arthritis. Migraines...all right sided. Why would one side of the body have more deterioration than the other? I am 60 years old.
Avatar m tn [word] sent to physioligest, told to wear wrist support........ I m concerned that this will lead to further deterioration/arthritis, other wrist and hips now have familiar aches, which are not debilitation at present. I have chosen to take glucosimin with condroiten and MSM but fear that this will not manage or control the progress. I am 70 and and have always been very active [and occasioally injured] opinion/advise please Thank you very much .
Avatar f tn a stent in my heart (1999 doing well), M.S. induced epilepsy - aura only), fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis that has flared badly in the last 5 to 6 years. Dur ... [More] ing that time I was taking oxcarbazepine and didn't realize that it was washing out my blood sodium and causing other terrible things to happen to me. I know many people tolerate it well but I didn't. I was doing well before that. Now I need a right knee and left shoulder replacement.
Avatar f tn As you have had xrays taken that showed up severe deterioration, this is osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis would have shown up on blood tests. Both types of arthritis have the same symptoms, but rheumatoid is an autoimmune disorder and can affect internal organs. It appears that you have degenerative changes going on in your body with you already having back problems.
Avatar n tn The doctor had me wait several months to see if the pain would go away. The pain was not only in my knee but radiated up and down from the knee into the thigh and shin. I had surgery, which slightly helped the knee but the pain in the thigh and leg did not go away and has gotten worse. I can not describe the pain as burning, stabbing, tingling or aching. It is a combination of pain.
Avatar m tn Drinking wine can ward off early symptoms of knee osteoarthritis, according to recent research from the UK. Drinkers who sipped 4 to 6 glasses of vino a week were 45 percent less likely to develop knee osteoarthritis than those who abstained from alcohol. But it's not alcohol that contains the antidote for better health; it's the specific ingredients found in wine that keep your creaks from becoming more serious. (Beer drinkers actually increased their risk of arthritis!
Avatar m tn The knee itself can get a problem and have osteoarthritis - an xray or other imaging would confirm any deterioration in the knee and the joints around it. Pain in the knee and leg can also be referred from degeneration in the lower spine and hips. A doctor may refer you for imaging done of those areas. You may already know that you have a degenerative disease, especially if you suffer from lower back pain.
Avatar n tn Hi Dear Synvisc is used to relieve knee pain due to osteoarthritis (OA). It is approved for those patients who do not get adequate relief from painkillers such as acetaminophen, or from exercise and physical therapy. Synvisc is injected directly into the joint to restore the lubricating properties of normal joint fluid. The therapy is generally well tolerated. However, it may not work for everyone.
874521 tn?1424120397 Hi I've had bursitis/osteoarthritis for a number of years in my spine and now my hips. In March I had a cortisone injection in both hips which was like a sigh of relief to me...I couldn't believe how good I felt..but only for a few weeks and then it wore off...I am to get more shots in Sept. My question to everyone that has had these shots is Do you feel your symptoms were WORSE after the good effects wore off? I sure feel I am worse...
Avatar n tn Over time, the steroids themselves, while they can reduce inflammation, can actually cause deterioration of the bone/joint, which could definitely cause further problems. I would strongly suggest that you request your doctor to do at the very least, some xrays to determine if, in fact, your pain is a result of arthritis and if so, what the extent of it is.
739070 tn?1338607002 Presumptive Dx of Sero-Negative Sjogrens based on joint pain (hips, hands), and clinically dry mouth/eyes, pleurisy, and parotitis. Any dental deterioration due to lack of moisture? Lip biopsy pending. Treated empirically with Plaquenil = no improvement. If we try to fit all of this into MS we have Attacks: 0) How sure are we that the arm numbness was nerve impingement? Maybe first attack?
Avatar n tn The first occurrence was in my right knee. If I bent my knee near its maximum extent (such as when kneeling, crouching or climbing into bed), I experienced an incredibly painful tearing/burning sensation in the area of my patellar tendon. I would immediately react and straighten my knee and the pain would completely dissipate within several minutes. Afterward the area would feel about 50% numb, as if injected with a mild local anesthetic that was slowly wearing off, for several hours.
Avatar n tn I know it may sound crazy but it takes about 40 days of taking it along with exercise and vitamin D with calcium and the swelling in the middle of neck is cut in half and the stiffness (i have had for almost 3 years)seems to be getting less and less. It works for osteoarthritis(deterioration of weight bearing joints)because I think after 30 or 40 years of age our cartilage and bones weaken leaving us at the mercy of this disease, but these supplements help the body fight back.

Avatar n tn 90% of the time I get the pain which is about 4 inches above my knee on the inside of the thigh at night and it is very painful and long lasting. During the day I have times when it feels like someone has driven a knife in me but it only lasts a few seconds. I have a spot where you can press and it hurts alot but otherwise it doesn't affect my daily life. I am very athletic and have not stopped doing anything but this is really affecting my sleep. If anyone learns anything, please post.
Avatar n tn Your survey should have tipped you off to the fact that a SIGNIFICANT population of the post-tx group taking the survey felt that the tx had caused a deterioration in the quality of their lives. I truly do not understand your rationale, your logic, or your motivations in trying to contradict the objective data presented in the survey. How do you think that the drug companies, and doctors collect their data regarding people's experiences with therapies and drugs? That's right...
211940 tn?1267884866 And believe me I know pain I've had 2 total knee replacements over last 4 years.. this pain is in the same range as the knee pain...10 plus !!!!! Best of luck to us all.
Avatar n tn I notice it in my butt (saggy) and especially depressing the leg area right above the knee (wrinkly) I live in Hawaii and although I wear knee length shorts and dresses which cover it up, occasionally I like to go to the beach and go for a swim and I am embarrassed.....I so much would rather have extra pounds then be where I am at!! I know that gaining some weight will help fill out my legs again, but you don't know how hard it is for me to gain a pound, let alone back the 4lbs i lost!! Help!!!
Avatar n tn He did several X-rays and told me I had osteoarthritis in my lower back and he thought I may have Fibromyalgia, but he wanted to rule out Lupus and a few other Autoimmune diseases, and also he wanted to do a vitamin D test. Everything came back normal except for the Vitamin D test, which was 16.
