osteoarthritis

Avatar n tn Another thing you can do is start physical therapy. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the joints helps to slow the degenerative changes.
Avatar n tn Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that causes stiffness and pain in the joints. Osteoarthritis involves growth of bone spurs and degeneration of cartilage at a joint. It is very common in adults older than 45 and can cause joint pain. Joint pain may also be caused by bursitis (inflammation of the bursae). The bursae are fluid-filled sacs that cushion and pad bony prominences, allowing muscles and tendons to move freely over the bone.
Avatar n tn Similarly if you were prone for arthritis such as osteoarthritis, the period of inactivity could have aggravated the arthritis and hence swollen joints. There are various causes of multiple joint pains like osteoarthritis, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic pathology, thyroid problems etc. Please consult an orthopedic specialist regarding this. There are no swollen joints associated with inactivity alone as the cause. However inactivity aggravates an existing joint condition like arthritis.
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
Avatar f tn I take one medication for hbp. Recently the middle joints of my little fingers are very tender, red and tend to be very itchy, if that makes any sense and I've also begun noticing some tiny red nodules at the first joint of my index fingers and little fingers. Some times the nodules are a little more pronouced than other times. I've been trying to self-medicate in terms of taking advil or aleve, but the discomfort is not going away. Any thoughts or similar cases?
Avatar n tn I am afraid that I have developed osteoarthritis in my hands, esp. in the thumb joint. I experience pain up to 5 on 1/10 scale, but not swelling. After I ride my bike my hands hurt for several days, maybe the handlebar is too big around. The symptoms developed shortly after I broke my wrist (Collies fracture) two years ago. I realize that if I have this problem it isn't going away. How do I keep the damage to a miminim? I use Ibuprofen for pain with fair results.
Avatar f tn between the bones of the joints. Osteoarthritis is also known as degenerative arthritis.Cause of osteorthritis is unknown. Pathphysiology of both is different.also mode of treatment for both is different. Moreover any relationship between the two has not been proved. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.
Avatar m tn It sounds like the doctors have ruled out the standard reasons for joint problems, like RA or gout. Your description of sand feeling in your joints is a symptom of osteoarthritis. Perhaps you're not old enough for the tests to show yet and it's the beginning of arthritis? I would try surfing for information on "benign crepitus" which is what they call what you have without a diagnosis. I understand working on one's health to reduce inflammation has helped some people.
Avatar m tn 50years old man not aware of any medical problems complains of pain related to his joints in different places ( fingers, knee, foot ankle) it takes 2 weeks relief by ibuprofen and voltaren emulgel so the question is what is your recommendation about this case ? do you advice of some vitamins especially that he is getting older?
Avatar n tn It can be osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or even reactive arthritis. You would need some tests and X-rays of the joints to diagnose this. The pain in the joints can also be due to overweight, hypothyroidism and diabetes. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult yur orthopedic specialist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have orthoscopic knee surgery on my right knee to correct problems I am having related to osteoarthritis. Does this type of surgery prevent osteoarthritis from returning? Is this surgery safe? What is recovery like after surgery? Any information anyone has regarding this topic will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn I'm 32 and I've never had any sort of leg, knee, or joint problem. Lately I've noticed that when I plant my left foot and pivot on it to turn my body to the right, my left knee makes a popping sound. For a few days I could feel something move in the same knee when I would walk down stairs. It felt like it was located to the left (outside) of the center of the knee. That went away. The right knee doesn't have any issues.
Avatar f tn in my joints and spine) and I am only 58. Does osteoarthritis manifest like this? Are there different types of osteoarthritis, or is there a kind that is systemic? What causes osteoarthriti to become diffuse? (I also have stiff sore muscles and feel ill. It is hard for me to walk too long. My muscle symptoms are not diagnosed, and I hope someone can put the pieces together.) Thank you to anyone who can help me.
Avatar m tn Hello. I'm 49 years old and relatively active. I play golf on a regular basis and try to exercise at least a couple times per week. I have not had any other serious medical problems. Over the last couple months I've developed pain in my feet and hands. It started in my feet with the balls of my feet aching and feeling "weak". Not sure if weak is the right term, but they just didn't feel normal. Pain is not severe, but has not gone away.
Avatar m tn The other causes for the pain are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Arthritis or bursitis can produce pain in the joints. Arthritis is inflammation of the joints. Bursa are sac like structures above and below the joints which helps in the movement of the tendons around the joints. These can get inflamed causing bursitis. If the pain persists consult your doctor for an evaluation. Regards.
Avatar m tn Hello, The various possibilities for popping, clicking joints are a cartilage tear or rotator cuff tear that is rubbing with the joint, arthrosis or degeneration of the joint and arthritis esp osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.More harmless is clicking of joints due to relatively lax joint capsules, that allows more than a usual amount of movement. Try stretching your joints if you don’t like cracking them as often and pls do stretches that stretch the ligaments around those joints.
657653 tn?1224680706 Hi, How are you? Degenerative arthritis is also called osteoarthritis or "wear and tear" arthritis. It is a form of arthritis that causes the gradual breakdown of the cartilage that cushions the joints. Movement then causes the bones to rub against each other, which is painful. Degenerative arthritis is characterized by inflammation, breakdown and eventual loss of the cartilage of the joints. This can be caused by obesity, bad posture, repeated trauma or injury, and overuse.
Avatar f tn I have lots of things wrong but I have recently found out about three other women my age in my area that have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. I am 33 and live in North Georgia almost on the Tennessse Line. Lyme is in TN but not GA. Whatever. My question is can Lyme disease cause or mimick Osteoarthritis. NOne of the women that have been diagnosed with this including myself have ever worked in a laborous job.
Avatar n tn I totally sympathize with you, I'm 50 and have basically the same symptoms. After 3 years of trial and error which included too much ibuprofen which messed up my gut I have had amazing results with some natural therapy. I discovered that the arthritis is caused by a tiny one cell organism called mycoplasma arthritides by having a live cell blood analysis. The phd who I went to told me to take Olive Leaf Extract and triple the usual dose of glucosamine.
Avatar n tn Maybe something is genetically wrong with me. When I was 33 I got my first bursitis (right shoulder). The chiropractor said the bursa are like gelatin ball-bearings in the shoulder, and when one pops, the surrounding muscles become inflamed. Now 10 years later, I have it in both shoulders, and pain when I walk, in my left arch and right ankle. Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones.
Avatar f tn Your mom will need to take 150mg glucosamine for the rest of her life if she has osteoarthritis. It keeps the joints and their connective tissues lubricated, as they dry up as we age. Some people respond quickly, and others feel no effect at all. There are also exercises that help. The main thing is not to let the joints seize up. Keep active.
