Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis hip relief

osteoarthritis

Avatar m tn I have been suffering from chronic hip pain for about 8 months. I had THR surgery of my right hip on 1-15-08. I seemed to be recovering at a normal pace until December of 2008. I started experiencing pain in the soft tissue of my right hip. I returned to my orthopedic surgeon for diagnosis. Xrays confirmed the hip was good, to be sure a bone scan was ordered, it also showed that everything appeared normal.
Avatar f tn Guess it depends on which nerve is being compromised. Hip Dr. says no problem with implant. Back Dr. says mild disc bulge with osteoarthritis in facet joints in lumbar spine, but not enough to cause this much pain. Tried PT, three sessions about crippled me. Now going to Chiropractor who is doing a combo of adjustments, acupuncture, plant based injections, ultra sound, etc. Still in pain, but hoping this will work.
Avatar m tn My question is whether anyone can tell me if osteoarthritis in the lower spine can cause grabbing, debilitating pain that causes the patient to cry out it is so severe. These pains act like pinched nerves, but MRS and Neurological testing shows no nerve damage from the spine. The regular arthritis pain increases gradually when the patient is walking and prevents walking altogether after about 15 yards. The grabbing pain is additional to the regular pain. The only relief for the pain is sitting.
Avatar f tn You probably have the onset of osteoarthritis which usually is first noticed in the hip, especially when lying on it in bed.
1415174 tn?1453243103 t easy to get a diagnosis but in the meantime my question was what can I do for pain relief, not a diagnosis. So today I got a muscle relaxer at least. I have been injured 5/5 times by PT's for this problem. So that isn't an option.
Avatar n tn I have had severe left hip pain for over a year now but now it has also moved to my right hip and groin area please someone help???
1175033 tn?1492201228 I went to Shriners hospital when I was 13ish, and one of the doctors there told me that I could need hip replacements by the age of 35. I didnt want to believe him, but now I starting to realize why he said that. I also have noticed reoccurring pains in alot of my joints along with stiffness and muscle spasms. I also have weird bone growths, on my ankle, heel, toe joints, finger joints, Im too young for all this. My sed rate always comes back normal.
Avatar f tn There are a multitude of conditions that can cause Hip Pain. I am wondering if you could have Trochanteric (Hip) Bursitis. The bursea in our hip is the largest in our body. When it flares up it is very painful and causes the symptoms that you describe. There is no way to know exactly what may be going on... so as suggested you should visit your PCP. If you have Trochanteric Bursitis it can be a fairly "easy fix.
Avatar f tn Since high school, after running track for 4 yrs, (7 yrs ago) I hav had knee pain. In the last couple of years it has gotten worse, radiating to my hip. It happens when I've been standing or walking too long, or if I'm cold. Could this be a trauma induced osteoarthritis?
Avatar m tn My husband was diagnosed with degenerative arthritis in his right hip about 5 months ago but the doctor said he's too young for a hip replacement at this time. He had a cortisone injection which seems to be helping somewhat. He never really had hip pain but instead had groin pain which apparently is common. While the pain has lessened, the lymph node or swelling in the groin area has increased significantly. It looks as though someone inserted an egg under his skin in the groin.
Avatar m tn Based on how I am understanding my test results most of my pain is from hip impingement, not necessarily osteoarthritis. I am uncomfortable sitting for long periods, and recently (last month or so) riding my bike has become occasionally painful both during and after the ride. I have been prescribed meloxicam 15mg daily. I have been taking it for about a week without much relief.
1110049 tn?1409402144 Now told I have osteoarthritis in spine. Had no back pain, only the hip pain. Presume this is what is known as referred pain, but I must admit I am bemused. Does glucosamine or any other supplement help with arthritis in spine? I am 69 yrs old, so know it is due to wear and tear.
Avatar f tn I have been experiencing numbness in my left hip. It started after I had an unusually long sleep and I woke up laying on my left side with numbness and pain in my left hip/thigh. This was 2 weeks ago. Ever since then I have been trying to avoid laying on my left side and it seems to help. However after I move in my sleep to my left side, I will wake up hours later in pain.
1378884 tn?1315505845 Dull pain along with sharp pain depending on how I move. Pain in inner groin/hip area. Hip occasionally locks up on me when I stand up from a sitting position. I just finally recieved the results from the MRI with Contrast a year after the initial injury. I was also diagnosed two years ago with Hashimotos and I do have issues with arthritis although still trying to get a handle on it as I speak. Here is the report: Indication: R hip pain, question labral tear.
Avatar f tn I have had mild osteoarthritis in my right hand, of and on. Now I have knee pain, both knees, elbow pain, foot pain (orthotics (4 diff pairs) haven't helped). Not severe enough to take meds. Have been sleeping on a magnetic mat for 3 years. Doesn't seem to help. Have been going to osteopath, masseur, acupuncturist, nutritionist (treating inflammation). No real relief. Other issue (related?) is poor blood circulation (circulatory disorder). Not overweight (120lbs at 5'4.
Avatar n tn In your case, as it is already diagnosed as osteoarthritis, there is a possibility of increased inflammation in the hip joint, that could happen due to stress, infection etc. Osteoarthritis of hip is a common degenerative hip joint disorder that tends to affect older people. The main symptom is pain in the buttocks, thigh and calf. Treatment involves rest and antinflammatory drugs until pain subsides. Also antibiotics and hormone terapy can be implicated depending upon the severity.
Avatar f tn If the symptoms have come on suddenly over the last few days, it may be that you have influenza. If that is the case, take pain relief as directed on the packet and drink plenty of warm fluids, juices, soups, but avoid milky products for the time being and rest in bed. If the pains have been with you over many weeks and months, it is likely that you have some form of arthritic condition.
1021831 tn?1331605848 I am 58, female, have M.S., osteoarthritis, 2 hip replacements and recently lost my balance in the bathroom and fell on my butt on the ceramic tile floor, went and had x-rays, not cracked or broken but painfull, using a cane, very difficult to walk. Can I do anything to help the pain, stiffness, the dr. gave me tylenol 3 for the pain. It also hurts in the right groin area.
Avatar f tn Any Help Appreciated! I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis about 2 years ago. I received cortizone shots for several months but did not help much. I was told about Supartz shots and received the first series last September. I was pain-free for over 8 months which was great! The end of May I started having pain and contacted my doctor, I was not able to get in for 3 weeks and the pain increased and had extreme sciatic pain running from my hip to the bottom of foot on both sides.
Avatar n tn If you have osteoarthritis then have acupuncture for pain relief
15428331 tn?1440590834 Nothing works for my lower back/hip pain. I am doing yoga and stretching exercises but more often than not they aggravate my back even more. Also been trying to walk but the pain in my hips is often so intense I sometimes can't even finish grocery shopping without having to take a break. In so desperate. I want to function normally and live life. I cannot do certain parts of my job so I am in danger of losing it. I don't want to go on disability. Doctors seem to minimize my pain.
15502615 tn?1440995053 I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis when I was very young and needed a hip replacement when I was 28 years old. This was in 1974 and the hip joints were relatively new and wouldn't have lasted long. Therefore, my Doctor had me put off the surgery as long as I could stand the pain. I was able to put it off another 7 years until 1981.
