1378884 tn?1315505845 Prednisone can make you feel better whether you have RA or OA. It's a general purpose inflammation reducer used in a wide variety of diseases. It can be injected directly into a joint to ease pain and swelling, given in an intramuscular injection or taken orally to quiet an overall RA flare-up, inhaled to help asthma and COPD patients breathe better, and more. My mom takes injections in her lower back to temporarily ease pain.
Avatar f tn Get your knee ligaments checked along with quadriceps and hamstrings. The 6 knee ligaments which might get affected are the menisci, collaterals and cruciate ligaments. If you have chronic knee pain in both of your legs then rule out osteoarthritis or other joint problems like Rheumatoid arthritis and other systemic diseases. Go for an X-ray and follow up with an orthopedician for a proper diagnosis. Take care!

Avatar f tn How do they determine if you have osteoarthritis or rheumatoid? Have your knees affected the hip joints any?
Avatar n tn In your case, as it is already diagnosed as osteoarthritis, there is a possibility of increased inflammation in the hip joint, that could happen due to stress, infection etc. Osteoarthritis of hip is a common degenerative hip joint disorder that tends to affect older people. The main symptom is pain in the buttocks, thigh and calf. Treatment involves rest and antinflammatory drugs until pain subsides. Also antibiotics and hormone terapy can be implicated depending upon the severity.
Avatar n tn I am taking 1500mg Glucosamine Sulphate + 1200mg Marine Chondroitin + 1000mg Omega 3 fish oil daily. Despite this the symptoms have now spread to my right hip, right shoulder and slight symptoms in my right knee. I get some relief from taking 400mg of Ibuprofen at night so I can sleep. Is there anything else I can do to try to halt the progression of the disease? Or are there any better meds I can take. I am 54yrs old, female and not over weight and physically active.
Avatar n tn Left groin, hip, thigh, knee pain. The pain seems to go all the way down to my knee. When I try to get up from sitting down and the first few steps I get the sharp pain. After several tests, I have just been told I need a hip replacement. The doctor told me that groin pain is common with hip problems.
1175033 tn?1492201228 I went to Shriners hospital when I was 13ish, and one of the doctors there told me that I could need hip replacements by the age of 35. I didnt want to believe him, but now I starting to realize why he said that. I also have noticed reoccurring pains in alot of my joints along with stiffness and muscle spasms. I also have weird bone growths, on my ankle, heel, toe joints, finger joints, Im too young for all this. My sed rate always comes back normal.
Avatar m tn Bones spurs growing on your joint is osteoarthritis. I have it on my bad knee. I saw the xray of my knee and could see the cartilage had worn away in part of the knee joint and I could see a little spikey bone sticking down. There is no cure for osteoarthritis, only a replacement of the knee joint if the condition is severe.
Avatar m tn terribly annoying.....I have it in my neck and knee and hip..
Avatar f tn 14 Months ago I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis in both knees and Buritis in my hips. It came on suddenly and it is very painful. I have seen 2 specialists and have had 2 lots of steroid injections in both knees and one steroid injection in my right hip. I have been taking Meloxicam and painkillers. Today I have been to see a specialist with the view to having knee replacement surgery. After looking at my recent x rays he has informed me that I have Avascular Necrosis in both knees.
Avatar f tn After breaking my femur,I went through a bunch of surgeries. My right leg ended up being shorter than my left. At first,it didn't bother me but then I started to get a lot of pain in my right heel and left hip. A trip to the orthotics/prosthetics office showed that my right leg was an inch shorter than my left. They built a shoe with the added inch and the pain went away within a day. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn / I knew my condition was bad b/c of the amount of pain I am in but wasn't expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
529224 tn?1400648219 ) - which my consultant had suggested before first knee OP, and my knee (despite being in a worse arthritic state than the first knee before OP!) improved - I don't have pain, or instability anymore!
Avatar m tn I understand your concern regarding your symptoms. Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and it causes pain, swelling, and reduced motion in the joints. if there is no pain associated with the joint cracks or pops, this may be caused by the soft tissue in a joint. Knee popping may also occur if the patella is slightly out of alignment, and rubs on the adjacent tissues. Other causes of joint noise is the snapping of tendons or scar tissue over a prominence, or cavitation.
Avatar f tn My symptoms include dry mucous membranes, have reoccuring conjunctivitis, chronic constipation with bloating and stomach pain, dry itching skin (no significant rashes) asthma, A-FIB with palpatiations and treated A-Flutter (cardiac ablation), bilateral shoulder pain with Rt rotator cuff surgery this past year (decompression and small tear in rotator cuff, inflamed tissue all around the joint), physical therapy after the surgery made the inflamation much worse and I made more progress with rang
1083310 tn?1260107282 It helped almost immediately with the pain and ability to move it. I also have had them for pain in my hip and in my knee for osteoarthritis. All have worked very well. I had Synvisc in my knee twice. The first time it was like the difference between night and day. It helped with the pain (I have osteoarthritis in knee) and made movement tons easier. It worked well for over 6 months.
532065 tn?1213149801 Christmascarol, That is almost exactly what I am going through plus I am also borderline, diabetic, high blood pressure and have scoliosis, and surgeries, my hospital will not even take seriously because of my weight, not, knee or hip, cortisone shots sometimes in my shoulders.
587778 tn?1261397118 It does not matter if I am standing, sitting, walking, or lying down, I am in pain constantly for the last week. I am wondering if I have re-injured my knee or is this how mild osteoarthritis feels?
Avatar f tn It can also be due to suddenly twisting your knee or hip in a particular direction. So look back and see what was common to all the leg ‘giving away’ episodes. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
