Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis blog

Avatar f tn I need to lose 80 lbs. and have osteoarthritis. I've been on a low carb diet twice and both times the arthritis has flared and become quite painful. I think it's an excess of protein. How else can I lose weight? I can't stand being hungry and have good weight loss results with low carb. Help please!
Avatar f tn About 10 years ago my primary physician prescribed tramadol to me for chronic pain of osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. 50 mg 4 times s day as needed for pain. Three years later he changed it to 100 mg 4times a day as needed for pain. I have taken it every day along with my thyroid and bp drugs. I have never in ten year exceeded this dosage. I tried to stop taking it several times and was floored by the severity of the withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I am 25 years old and am being treated for osteoarthritis (fingers, knees, elbows and toes) and mild fibromyalgia. A friend of mine told me about the hypermobility type of EDS. I do have loose ankles that like to give out on me, flat feet, easy bruising, scoliosis, irritable bowel syndrome and hyper mobility in my toes, elbows, fingers and thumbs (they extend farther than they should). However, my skin is not elastic or velvet like. Could this be EDS even without the skin abnormalities?
6708370 tn?1471493810 New York Times Blog: Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is widely recommended for the relief of back pain and the pain of knee and hip arthritis. But a systematic review of randomized trials has found that it works no better than a placebo. Australian researchers reviewed three randomized trials that compared acetaminophen with a placebo for the relief of spinal pain, and 10 trials that compared their use for easing the pain of osteoarthritis. All together, the analysis included 5,366 patients.

Avatar f tn Nothing much else is on the schedule to finish up the week - I could use some quiet time. I have several blog topics in the que and need writing time.
9745005 tn?1410047966 If your back spasms constantly for weeks or if the spasm comes and goes in the same place, you may have an underlying problem in your spine eg facet joint osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, herniated disc etc keep in mind that your muscle will instinctively react to any pain and inflammation in your back by spasm-ing.
Avatar f tn Sandy Szwarc approved of it and kindly reposted it on her Junkfood Science blog. As I write, the comments on the healthfraudoz website have reached a total of 176. A few commenters approved of what I wrote, but the majority of commenters tried to defend Isagenix. Their arguments were irrational, incompetent, and sometimes amusing. It was as if no one had actually read what I wrote. No one bothered to address any of my specific criticisms.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am new to this blog. My name is Isabel, I am from Ontario, Canada and I been surfing the internet looking for such a blog as this and I intend to continue surfing the internet to find others like me that are living with excruciating pain and research to see if I can find a way to releave my pain, maybe even others I will keep reading and posting any info I may find.
Avatar m tn This may be osteoarthritis of the knees. I have it in my hips. You would have to ask the doctor to be sure that "narrowing" means osteoarthritis (OA). It usually means that the buffering or cushioning that keeps your knees from grinding is getting low so that you will start feeling pain.
Avatar f tn Synvisc is not a drug to relieve pain, it will take time in acting as this is one of the hyaluronates used in viscosupplementation. Synvisc is a treatment for osteoarthritis which is injected directly into the knee joint. Take care!
748543 tn?1463449675 While at work the other day, I received an email notification from my oldest and most popular blog on TMJ/TMD Pain Relief matters. While reading it and in my mind formulating my answer to a TMJ and TMD Prototypical Patient, I realized that the post really deserved its own thread. I am including the post here. Dear Dr. Nassery- You have heard this before but thank you and Dr Chan for continuing this blog, it is very important to the TMD community.
580765 tn?1274922960 CFS is not a psychological illness and is proven to be much more than that. I love to refer people to Adrienne Dellwo's blog about Fibro and CFS. Please take a look at the page I posted with the link below when you get a moment. She explains some of the theories of causes of CFS. Clearly your doctor is misinformed. http://chronicfatigue.about.com/od/whatischronicfatigue/a/what_is_CFS.
Avatar f tn A year ago he put me on Norco to help with the joint pain, I have severe osteoarthritis and it has been a lifesaver for me. I am 54 years old and the last thing I'm concerned about is addiction. I take the Norco when needed only. But it helps me to be able to function on a daily basis. My question for the doctor is: why do we as chronic pain patients have to suffer because of those who take pain meds for recreation?
Avatar n tn So glad to find this blog! Thanks to you and the others who have shared so much. It helps keep me sane-I did go through a time when I thought I might have been crazy-until I actually saw a neurologist who diagnosed my problems. I'm a 60 year old woman, in pretty good health. I do have atypical hydrops-Meneires Disease-without vertigo, without nauseau, just 29 years of ringing in the ears. I take a daily diuretic for this-also seems to keep my blood pressure in check.
1763947 tn?1334058919 I did my post-graduate work in a multi-national pharmaceutical company.) posted this on his blog. I'm going to copy/paste the entire entry, with permission.
Avatar n tn I am concerned that women reading this blog may be lulled into a false sense of security. For those who are contemplating using percocet during labor, it may cause your baby respiratory problems (read the label)...and the effects of use during pregnancy and breastfeeding are "unknown." I am a juvenile attorney and have represented the children of mothers who used drugs (legal and illegal) during pregnancy.

Avatar n tn Hi Dear Synvisc is used to relieve knee pain due to osteoarthritis (OA). It is approved for those patients who do not get adequate relief from painkillers such as acetaminophen, or from exercise and physical therapy. Synvisc is injected directly into the joint to restore the lubricating properties of normal joint fluid. The therapy is generally well tolerated. However, it may not work for everyone.
Avatar n tn I truely have several hernited disc in my back as well as severe osteoarthritis but I dont know anymore how much is the real pain or just the the Vicodin telling my brain Im in pain. I hardly ever sleep more than 3 hrs a night and sleep walk alot. I have become extremely forgetful and im to young for that.
Avatar f tn //www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/link-between-nightshades-chronic-pain-and-inflammation Check it out if you need further convincing. I hope that everyone that posted in this forum checks back and reads this and tries it. Most of all I hope it helps everyone as it has me. I only wish that I would have discovered this simple solution, to such a painful problem, many years ago. If it does help you please pass it on to as many other people as you can. Good health to you all.
Avatar n tn I have bulging discs and osteoarthritis and the avascular necrosis. The hip pain has been the worst of what I have experienced. The Dr's tell me having my hips replaced will cure most of the pain. I am now bone on bone , no cartiledge with cysts. I am just worried I have waited too long as now I have lost my muscle tone am not able to exercise at all now, sleeping more than an hour or so at a time is not possible most nights. My legs have a weird feeling now are numb and my feet and tingle.
Avatar n tn I had the scope because of osteoarthritis of the knee with severe osteoarthritis of the patellofemoral joint and was hoping the surgery would buy me a few more years to work. This was a big mistake because I am in more pain now than before the surgery.
Avatar f tn But my right leg is a little bit shorter than the left leg, and the muscles in my right thigh are smaller and somewhat atrophied compared to the muscles in m left leg. My x-rays show some early osteoarthritis in my right hip, and my right hip is pretty deformed and flattened out on top. I struggle to remain active. I too enjoy working out - weight lifting, hiking, cycling, etc - but it can be pretty difficult to do on some days.
Avatar n tn I have a blog site that I try and write in everyday. I have it in hopes that it can help someone through their pain. The site is ****.*** I hope that it can help. If you have any questions please fell free to ask me anything. Please take care.
551343 tn?1506834118 Long story short, I have written about my experiences on my blog if you would like the details. http://open.salon.com/blog/monte_canfield/2009/01/02/my_medical_condition Presently I am on 1800 mg gabapentin for pain and two .6 mg colchicine a day for the vasculitis. I just added oxycodone, 10mg, when needed every 4 hours. So far I only take it at bed time since I have a flare up every night shortly after going to bed.
Avatar n tn Went to my gp they refered me to ortho consult he ordered ultrasound and mri they showed swelling and fluid around my sacral joint/hip. He said i had osteoarthritis in my right sacral joint/hip.He gave me local anesthetic injection into my lower back which gave me relief for about two days. Then i was refered to a spinal surgeon. He disagreed with the arthritis diagnosis as my pain was getting worse and worse.Ihave had so many pain killers i give up finding 1 that works.
