osteoarthritis

1459410 tn?1285695005 I have it at a relatively young age, and was prescribed celebrex, which I hate the headaches from and stomach pain (and its not all that effective) which irritates my stomach ulcer. All my doc said was to up the protonix. Im in PT to help as well but if anyone would like to share a short summary of their story from pre-diag symptoms through successful treatment, I would really like to see how the different docs have handled your speciific case.
Avatar f tn , published his exceptionally careful and comprehensive research about niacinamide and osteoarthritis titled The Common Form of Joint Dysfunction: Its Incidence and Treatment. Dr.Kaufman’s research came out around the same time that patented cortisone formulas were being heavily promoted, so niacinamide treatment was hardly noticed. I read 1,000 milligrams of niacinamide three times a day (it doesn’t work as well if you only take it once or twice daily).
Avatar m tn Are you seeing a specialist (I would assume a neurologist? I'm not sure) for your migraines? Or are you seeing your primary care doctor? Be straight with your doctor and ask why he is reluctant to give you the medication. Look up the side effects, if you haven't already. There could be something in your medical history that makes him reluctant to risk giving it to you.
Avatar m tn Great info as always from txsilver. Also could be caused by genetic defect such as shallow hip sockets, this caused Olympian Mary Lou Retton to have both hips replaced. Also could be caused by mycoplasma, tiny organism without cell walls and receptors, this can be detected by live blood analysis - I am working with this right now and definitely seeing improvement, less pain and I'm completely off Motrin which is good because it was causing gut problems for me.
Avatar n tn They placed a rod in the tibia and did nothing with the fibula. Now I have a staph infection. I was put on augmentin and now the doctor says the results of the culture will not be accurate. Is there any way I can find out for sure if the infection is in the bone or has contaminated the rod? My doctor wants to do surgery to replace the rod.
Avatar f tn New treatments include an anti inflammatory lotion, diclofenac (Voltaren Gel) and diclofenac patch, which are being used for the relief of the pain of osteoarthritis. Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are medications that are used to reduce pain and inflammation in the joints. Steroids can also be used to be injected inside the joints by an expert.
Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis?
Avatar f tn I have Osteoarthritis and it is getting worse. I taken Celebrex, Norco, Tramadol and Vicopren. None of these are working. I don't have insurance and go to a public health clinic. They don't seem to know what to do. Could you please advise me on what I can take that will help with the chronic pain and will be inexpensive.
529224 tn?1400648219 The other knee was about to be replaced in 2012 and an emergency came in and my OP was postponed.I took up hill walking, despite it hurt, aquafit twice a week and swimming lengths (not breaststroke!) - which my consultant had suggested before first knee OP, and my knee (despite being in a worse arthritic state than the first knee before OP!) improved - I don't have pain, or instability anymore!
513154 tn?1340225289 I have a question about Osteoarthritis and the pain that comes with it. Last November I had 5, 6, and 7 upper vertebra fused together and feel so much better in that way BUT i can't take anti inflammatory medications for my Osteoarthritis, Tylenol doesn't even help a bit and non of the arthritis over the counter meds help either. My question is... is there a non narcotic pain medication that I can take every day? I am 45 years old and very healthy besides my arthritis. thank you!
Avatar n tn t tried it myself yet, only because I HATE taking pills, but have heard a few success stories about Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Another thing you can do is start physical therapy. Strengthening the muscles and tendons around the joints helps to slow the degenerative changes.
Avatar m tn I have osteoarthritis in my neck moderate and mild in lower back. Can and adjusment help? will they even do an adjustment me? i seem to be losing sensativity in my legs but dont know if iy du to oa in back nad neck.any help would be great. thank you.
Avatar m tn t expecting that especially @ 32 with a 4 yr old and 7 month old!! Anyways, he adviced pain meds and synvisc-one injections until we couldn't control the pain enough. I tried the injections. I won't lie the are a bit painful. My right one was just uncomfortable. The left one hurt way worse. I have no idea why but it even swelled up and I had to stay off it about 24 hours b/c of all the fluid on it.
Avatar m tn i was also wondering about the osteoarthritis as my dr told me that i have severe degenerative osteoarthritis of the lower spine (I forgot the numbers), hips, left shoulder and both feet. I had major surgery last summer and mesh was used to attach part of my bowel to my spine. My dr figures that this may have jump-started the arthritis issues. Currently i have probs walking, bending and overall it hurts to be on my feet for more than 20 mins at a time.
Avatar f tn Does osteoarthritis generally cause an elevated Sed Rate and and elevated C-Reactive Protein? Anyone have these tests elevated with your condition? Thanks!
657653 tn?1224680706 I am not up on all the latest medical news and treatments for my condition. What will eventually happend to me? Please be completely honest with me as I need to know. I appreciate your input.
1649111 tn?1301441468 Slightly deformed or misaligned bones may not bother us when we're younger, but over time the abnormal way the bones work will eventually start causing problems, maybe early osteoarthritis (the wear and tear kind) or tendon and ligament problems. I'd say see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in knees.
Avatar f tn Sometimes NSAIDs help, but sometimes I have to take a mild narcotic. Also, I would recommend seeing a pain management doctor. My father has osteoarthritis and he gets relief from Aleve and applied heat. I hope you find something that helps you.
Avatar f tn Hi,thanks in advance for any responses...much appreciated and my drs. do not know. I've been menopausal since Nov.2011(my last period) and I've been diag.hypothyr.about 3-5 yrs. I'm currently on estrogen patch+progesterone+150 mcg synthroid. Wondering if anyone has had experience with hip (actually where the leg and hip meet)pain that disturbs their sleep? Also on another note wondering the best labs to target any such problems, whether hormone or thyroid related.
Avatar m tn The osteoarthritis may progress slowly over time. Strengthening the muscles that support the neck and cervical spine may lesson symptoms of pain and discomfort. ~•~ Dr. Parks This answer is not intended as and does not substitute for medical advice. Avatar m tn Hello Flowr, I understand your hesitancy to take Meloxicam. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and fever reducer effects. It's often used in Arthritic and inflammatory conditions. However any NSAID comes with concerns - including OTC NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen. Several years ago Glucosamine & Chondroitin was popular with medical providers. It was hailed as the new and one of the best "treatments" for restoring cartilage and reducing pain.
