Osteoarthritis and scoliosis

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis and scoliosis

osteoarthritis

Avatar f tn I had spinal fusion and harrington rods surgery in 1987 in the lumbar area for congenital scoliosis. I also have osteoarthritis, cervical arthritis and fibromyalgia and sometimes severe headaches. I have been reading the posts from the different people and I am sorry to say that I can relate to the unbearable pain.
Avatar n tn At the time, I did not know that the scoliosis, hip pain and bursitis could be related. He relunctantly looked at the x-ray films from 2002 and then had me bend foward. He said he could not see it and proceeded to offer me narcotics (the second time he has done so). I told him that I "did not wish to go down that road" at which time he prescribed Relafin, 1000 mg to be taken every morning.
Avatar f tn You see, when I was a kid, and even up until I had my 4th child, I could swim underwater for great distances, do contortions, backflips, lift as much weight as most men, (my husband's Lincoln welder was small business for me to lift), and I always walked long distances every day. Scoliosis and osteoarthritis have gotten the better of me, I'm afraid, and when I quit smoking twice, I gained over 60 unhealthy pounds. Today marks the day that I have lost 50 of those pounds, but I smoke.
1629578 tn?1299818494 I started seeing a chiropractor for symptoms. He is very knowledgeable and also did reasearch on scoliosis and Harrington rod. My pain now is very minimal. I do see him for maintenance every other week. Regular alignment is very important. Works for me, anyway!
Avatar n tn I try so hard to keep a positive attitude and am a member of scoliosis sites on the net to try and help others, but honestly it does get hard. Exercise does not help. nor swimming, nor physio, nor chiropractors, in fact they run if they see me coming. I probably have made you feel worse but that was not my intention I just want you to know you are not alone in this. Keep smiling regardless!!
Avatar n tn I have a family history of serious Dowangers (sp) hump, spinal stenosis, and scoliosis that develops after the age of 40. My sister's spine completely twisted from scoliosis within 2 years and had corrective surgery at age 53. Because of all this, I have regular care,MRI's, & x-ray's. Recently, I was diagnosed with Adult Levo Scoliosis and the onset of mild spinal stenosis (I am 50). In comparison of prior x-rays, my doctor said this is a new development.
Avatar f tn I had back surgery for my scoliosis when I was 16 years old and I am now 30 years old. I have been living in chronic pain since the surgery and now have Osteoarthritis and Degenerative Disc Disease to add to that pain. I have been through several primary care doctors over the years who seem to belittle my reports of pain.
790669 tn?1465192699 My mom who has the worst back of anyone I know (she has scoliosis, Degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis) was getting the shots in her back and they wasn't working. Her Dr. did some kind of surgery where they cleared out a lot of arthritis on his L2-3 and 4. She's feeling better thank goodness. She's also in physical therapy. It's been so hectic dealing with all of this. We lost Boogie right after Brian started hurting and that pain hasn't left me yet.
539478 tn?1296624612 I have 4-5 schmorls nodes, osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, as well as scoliosis. I've had to give up all the fitness classes I teach except just leading dance troupe. I was told I should never do that stuff again due to the condition of my spine. I also took 2 months off to try to heal the fractures & herniations.
Avatar n tn It is filled with Dilaudid by her pain management doctor and it distributes small doses of medication into her body. She has osteoporosis (sp), scoliosis, and osteoarthritis and her back broke in several areas. She is only 66 too. Anyway, it has helped her immensely. The doctor mentioned to her about installing a device that blocks pain messages from the brain or to the brain. She is looking into that as well.
Avatar f tn My next question is it appears ur thoracic spine is where the syrinx is, and u have a form of scoliosis...could u have tethered cord and did u have an injury to that part of ur back? If u do not have copies of ur MRI's and the reports, contact the facility that did the studies and request them and going forward always request copies of all tests including blood labs to be sent to u. This makes getting 2nd opinions easier and faster.
Avatar f tn I have had fibromyalgia since a near fatal car accident 10 years ago. I am currently on Celexa and Methadone, and I have gained about 35 lbs. and I can't figure out how to stop it or why it is happening. My pain management doctor is a neurologist, and he just says it is a combination of the meds, menopause, not being as active, but he is not a diet doctor and his main concern is my pain. Is there another combination of meds that doesn't do this?
748543 tn?1463449675 If you have followed the sequence of my other blogs about TMJ pain and TMJ Disorder in general, by now you could come to the following conclusion on your own. Dentistry is closely related to the functional and dynamic systems of the body. This relation which has been termed an “Elegant Ecology” is so intertwined that discussing one without the other would be an artificial separation of anatomy and physiology.
Avatar f tn And other than gastroparesis, I have small syrinx from T3 to T9, mild scoliosis, bulging disc at L4, costochondritis, and mild osteoarthritis in my right ankle. And I am going to take MRI tests for thoracic and cervical spine to check if my syrinx has been enlarged. Basically the tests are to check whether the syrinx is the cause of gastroparesis.
440535 tn?1312371665 arterial/intestinal/uterine fragility or rupture (usually associated with the Vascular Type); Scoliosis at birth and scleral fragility (associated with the Kyphoscoliosis Type); poor muscle tone (associated with the Arthrochalasia Type); mitral valve prolapse; and gum disease. What are the types of EDS? There are six major types of EDS. The different types of EDS are classified according to the signs and symptoms that are manifested.
Avatar f tn I heamorraged after tonsilectomy many years ago, but have had 3 c-sections and 2 operations for cholesteatomas since with no problems. Could I be a carrier of EDS and have no symptoms and pass this on to my children? Would both myself and their father have to be carriers for them to have this condition? Many thanks in advance for your response. Kind Regards.
1684282 tn?1505701570 I am becoming somewhat frustrated with the way a lot of my colleagues practice medicine. Disenchanted, angry would be the other words that could be used. We all get ostensibly that same training and all of us are supposedly in it to help our patients. So, how come have I been getting so many letters lately on my addiction forum from desperate people unable to quit taking the tramadol pills that their own kind doctors have so freely prescribed for them?
620923 tn?1452919248 I have /gerd/reflux and Migraines, as well as Fibromyalgia, Osteoarthritis in my spine and right knee, Epilepsy, Sharj
Avatar n tn I have had some back and feet pain in the past, I have mild scoliosis since a child, nothing severe, so I began to go to a chiropractic once in a while for the last 3 years and began also to wear custom made orthotics and very confortable shoes. I exercise sort of quite regularly, I am not a gym freak but I bike, swim, walk and lift light weights.
Avatar f tn After a second opinion, turns out, I probably have scoliosis. On top of that, I am going through a divorce with a 15 month old and it is very stressful. I am really scared, I don't want to lose any more weight and not sure what to do. I don't have the appetite that I did before my baby. I have tried Boost Plus nutritional drinks to help, but they are expensive for me and my situation at the moment. Any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions is greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Hello all!!! I'm going to start with a list of my diagnosed health problems and then move on to the more recent issues, just in case they may be related. I have: multiple herniated/bulging discs...
Avatar f tn I had been treated by chiropractor and physician but my condition and pain does not improve. I am also suffering from burning and sour sensation on my tongue and I don't know whether all these are related to my bone. Has any nerve been afftected or compressed? I don't know what kind of specialist to consult anymore! Please help me...
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Topamax along with an appetite suppressant (Adipex) for weight loss a bit over a year ago and stopped taking them after two and a half months. I did not lose all of the weight I had wanted to, but most of it. I had gained 55 pounds while on Paxil over the course of two and a half years. By taking a combination of the two medicines, I lost 22 pounds the first month, 10 pounds the second month, and 8 pounds the first half of the third month.
538894 tn?1389310148 Then I went to a Spine Doctor and turned out that I had a hemi-vertebrae in my C-spine and moderate scoliosis there as well. So what can I do to stop the aches and pains, and stop this cracking my neck habit??
152264 tn?1280358257 Increasing fatigue and cognitive problems (And a few other things but probably unrelated--achy limbs, tender tendons, osteoarthritis, and ghosting after using my eyes fast.) I didn’t “get” all these symptoms from reading about them; it was the other way around. I’m (a little) surprised at how easily the MRI news went down with me.
748543 tn?1463449675 While at work the other day, I received an email notification from my oldest and most popular blog on TMJ/TMD Pain Relief matters. While reading it and in my mind formulating my answer to a TMJ and TMD Prototypical Patient, I realized that the post really deserved its own thread. I am including the post here. Dear Dr. Nassery- You have heard this before but thank you and Dr Chan for continuing this blog, it is very important to the TMD community.
Avatar f tn And other than these symptoms, I have joint pain in hands and arms whose cause is still unknown and tingling in my face and neck whose cause is also still unknown and syrinx in my thoracic spin ( from T 3 to T9), and mild bulging disc at L4 (lumber spine), mild scoliosis, and mild osteoarthritis in my right ankle. I would really appreciate it if anyone could respond to my question.

Avatar n tn In the elderly, the presence of chronic disease such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis increases the risk of disc degeneration in the thoracic spine. Thoracic herniated discs occur equally often in men and women.
