Osteoarthritis and knuckle pain

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis and knuckle pain

osteoarthritis

Avatar n tn It has been quite painful to use that finger and although at first I could barely use that finger, there is left a pain which radiates upward toward the end of the finger. I recently had it xrayed and my doctor told me that it was neither broked nor dislocated and that it was merely osteoarthritis, as he had first stated. I never felt that it was broken and I do have arthritis, but it certainly does not look like my right knuknuckle.
Avatar f tn Hi! The pain and swelling in a single knuckle joint can be due to an old injury you do not remember. It can also be due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, infection of the joint, tendonitis or inflammation of a tendon, or bursitis (inflammation of the lining of joint). It is difficult to diagnose the cause on net. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar f tn I am having terrible pain in middle knuckle on both hands. First noticed the pain a number of years ago after driving metal fence posts in the ground with a large hammer. Pain now id severe. Finger will functin if knuckle is flat. To touch them, bump them or bend the intendified the now constant pain. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Avatar n tn Now 10 years later, I have it in both shoulders, and pain when I walk, in my left arch and right ankle. Once my ring finger knuckle hurt for a year. The doc said the X-Ray showed no knuckle between the finger bones. Is this a case of disappearing joints? I've tried glucosamine chondroitin and shark cartilage but I can't see any noticeable improvements. Is there any way to resolve (aside from pain killers and drugs that have unknown or risky side affects)?
Avatar n tn It started out with the end of the finger being numb and tingly. Also, a sharp pain radiates from that knuckle to the tip of my finger. Please help, this has been getting worse now for almost 2 weeks with no relief.
1467506 tn?1286416617 My fingers hurt, ache most of the time but worsens when I am doing something (like this typing!) The pain begins at my knuckle joint and extends down all fingers, some wrist pain as well though that seems to come and go whereas finger pain is always there, just intensity changes with activity. I am planning on finding a hand doc this week but wanted to know if this sounded like anything any of you have experienced before. Might it be from the FM or is it most likely not related?
Avatar m tn I don't really have a question, I've been reading for a few days now comments about OA and Fibro and actually I got a feeling of some kind relief with my pain and its toll on my body and mind. I first notice OA and found that I had it about 25 to 30 years ago. For years I just thought everybody hurt like I did, my feet would ache then my hips, wrist, shoulders. I noticed other people having issues with their body parts and doing the same thing I was doing.
476246 tn?1418874514 These same trigger points contribute to the pain of tennis elbow and send pain to the second knuckles of the third and fourth fingers. Knuckle pain referred from this muscle feels just like the pain of arthritis. You may have believed for years that you suffer from arthritis and it simply may not be true. Sometimes, the hand muscles themselves can be the unrecognized source of problems in the hand.

211940 tn?1267884866 However, he said it could NOT be causing me so much pain. He checked out my arm and noticed a hard soft tissue knot, and suggested removing it through surgery and it "might" relieve my pain. So, 3 weeks ago I had the said surgery and it was removed (a hard soft tissue mass about the size of a marble). No, this was not the cyst inside my humerus bone. Anyways, I still have the pain, and it is extremely terrible at night (on a scale of 1 to 10, a 20 at night).
Avatar m tn I have had this weird feeling in my knees and also some popping but only when i bend it, if i sit for more than two minutes my knee gets tight, sort of like my knuckles before i crack them, i am overweight but my knees don't hurt when i walk just when i sit or have to bend them at all also if i sit for a longer time and feel the need to stretch my legs out i feel as though my whole kneecap is rotating with my leg it's hard to explain but its as if i can feel my bones moving and grinding against
Avatar n tn I get ligament problems in my feet, achillies and knees and I thihnk sometimes my hip pain is more tendon that joint pain. I had physio thereapy to teach me how to walk in a way that did not make certain joints worse and to strengthen some muscles to reduce the strain. I had inserts made for my shoes which where great although I didn't continue my prescription for them as I also have ADHD and I'm rubbish at doing important things like that. The therapy helped a lot but I still have pain.
Avatar n tn After an hour or two, the pain basically disappears. The pain seems to be emanating from my spine, and tensing up the back muscles nearest the spine. I have been seeing a chiropractor/massage therapist for about 4 weeks now, and it has not helped, because the pain is only after I sleep! I am 23 years old. I help my dad deliver produce 2 times a week in the morning, and I am also a full time sales associate at Sears selling electronics (which I'm on my feet all day.
Avatar f tn I have, and still do fall up stairs, down stairs, off ladders, trip over everything, fall off everything. It started getting worse around 26 and gradually went downhill. Full time pain and numbness throughout the skin of my feet. I started with the top of one toe. I now live for traction once a week, as well as adjustments, my boyfriends include Calgon and Epson Salt, and the couch arm is my backs and butts best friend.
Avatar m tn I'm 74 y/o and have had osteoarthritis in my fingers of both hands for many years. Right hand ring finger swelled up at the middle knuckle with lots of pain when cutting things with a knife, shaking hands, unscrewing lids. The pain is on the sides of the knuckle, not the top, so that would seem to rule out a tendon problem. Ibuprofen or Tylenol don't seem to be of much help. Is there any procedure to relieve the pain, I'd rather not get into narcotic type pain meds?
Avatar n tn I am a male, 46yrs old 6ft and weigh 175 lbs. My pain comes and goes and has for about 6 months. It is not severe pain, but at times is more annoying than anything. It feels like there is something in there pinching me. I went to an internal med MD in July. He ran blood tests that all came back fine. He sent me to have an abdominal ultrasound which showed only "healthy" organs. No dilated bile duct, no gall stones, liver enzymes were in normal range.
636562 tn?1223671045 The doctors now think I'm utterly insane and have all passed it off as Osteoarthritis. And maybe it is, I just don't know, I can't get any of them to talk to me about it or really listen to me. It doesn't "feel" like I think OA would feel like, it doesn't hurt to move my fingers in normal, everyday movements.
Avatar n tn This pain would intensify which would cause me to wince in pain and then release and then repeat all over again every 5-10 seconds for about a minute. This pain did not radiate anywhere but only within a specific point. Then this same stabbing sensation occurred half way up to the first knuckle of my right middle finger about 30 minutes later. Then immediately following this finger pain I felt pain in my right foot at the joint of my middle toe.
2126606 tn?1346348724 Physical dependency can begin after as little as two weeks, and many people experiencing pain are prescribed medication for at least that long. o We speak with many patients who felt their doctors overprescribed opiate painkillers to them, and that they weren’t warned properly of the risks. Focused on eliminating pain, physicians can overlook the long-term consequences of dependency.
Avatar m tn , Do I need to improve my intake of a certain nutrient or reduce it, I normally take supplements rich in calcium and lots of milk, could that be the problem? Kindly reply soonest.
Avatar n tn About 2 months ago I woke up w/ my wedding ring feeling very tight and noticed my finger was swollen and painful. I ended up taking off ring but pain never subsided. Then a couple weeks later the pinky finger next to that one started hurting. Also in same spot, the joint that is mid-finger. It looked red and enlarged. A few weeks later the pinky on other hand then hurt, followed by both thumbs. I also noticed my bottoms of feet hurt.
Avatar n tn Twice at different times one digit will turn white feel very cold and then return to normal. Severe lower back pain for two years, severity fluctuates. Swollen knuckle joint on my little finger. MRI's show no medical reasons for back pain, they call it osteoarthritis. Huge family history of autoimmune problems, my blood tests are negative?
Avatar n tn Hi all. New to this. I am a 44 year old woman who is physically fit (gym 5 days a week) and eats pretty well. Approx 5 weeks ago I developed veins showing on both hands. They have not gone away and infact they are bulging most times, and I can "feel them". They have increased and I can see some starting to climb up my forearm now. Before this, my veins barely ever showed.
Avatar n tn Its been like for a very long time, but since it causes no pain and fingers snapping here and there is normal, I didn't think much about it. But now I'm starting to get concerned that as I get older it may become a bigger problem (i.e. arthritis). FYI - I am a 29 year old male. Any suggestions or advice?
478554 tn?1208038007 Around 6 months ago, my left middle finger’s middle joint and bottom joint around the knuckle areas got painful, particularly in the morning. When I tried to flex my middle finger, I can feel the joint is bouncing back and fore like a toggle switch. In particular, my middle finger cannot fold back to touch my palm, when I am trying to hold a fist. When I try, it is painful and unable to curl back much. My doctor has X ray and blood test for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Everything tested normal.
Avatar m tn )or Naproxen, and within 3-4 days I felt 100% In December 2012 I developed terrible ankle and foot swelling with unbearable pain, to the extent that on certain days I could not walk or put weight on that ankle/foot. Naproxen and other OTC drugs did little to repeal the pain and inflammation. I also began experiencing knuckle & wrist discomfort, and noticed I was dropping things constantly.
Avatar f tn I need surgery to replace 3 disk that also are hitting my nerves and causing shoulder pain and finger and sometimes arm numbness or tingling. I'm from NC originally and used to live in Durham. I'm from W-S. Take care and good Luck.
645390 tn?1338558977 My middle finger on the right hand has been VERY painful and stiff for about 1 1/2 weeks. Seriously painful. The knuckle area and it is starting to travel down the top of my hand. Also from the knuckle and up towards the finger, is started to turn towards my pinky finger. I called the new neurologist to see if perhaps the new med I am taking, Lamictal, could be the cause of this. He thinks I might have Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I need a blood test. WHAT? Seriously??
