Osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia

Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia

Avatar f tn I've had mri's of my spine and shows osteoarthritis with bone spurs in cervical thoracic and lumbar. This was done in 2007 (i was 35), now i have this horrible tendonitis in both wrists and i'm on prednisone. Could this be related to the arthritis? i'm seeing an ortho but he doesn't know about the osteoarthritis (i was just rereading my reports and it jumped out at me). What should i expect with this diagnosis? I have terrible neck pain and headaches and numbness on left side of body.
Avatar n tn I got to spend a short time in Florida the last 2 winters and I found it very agreeable. My husband and I plan to spend 3 months in Florida this winter. I don't know if summer in Florida would be good for me, since really hot weather and high humidity bother me as well.
690327 tn?1255358111 I got arthritis, carpal tunnel, fibro, DDD and herniated discs in my neck, overweight, high cholesterol and BP--you name it, it seems like I got it. I hate the fibro the most. Very painful.
Avatar f tn I stopped my antidepressants suddenly and had horrid withdrawl, light headed, itchy and nauseous, it lasted for 2wks. I have fibromyalgia osteoarthritis and dysplastic hips which I take morphine daily for and I would love to come off that too. Good luck!
4861077 tn?1360159739 This may not have anything to do with the fibromyalgia and may be due to carpal tunnel or tendon problems. If you work and have a repetitive job, your hand and wrist problems may be because of that. Your doctor will be able to check out your hands and determine whether nerve conduction tests would be appropriate to find out if there is any carpal tunnel problems.
Avatar m tn every medicine I had been put on has been problems and I have been taken off all for Fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, and arthritis. Now, my right eye is getting fuzzy, not every day, but more days all the time. My doctor has said although I need back surgery, be careful doing that because it will possibly make your fibromyalgia worse. Will I ever be able to try medicines again? I have an allergy from them...swollen tongue and throat type but, can that ever change???/ Thanks.
1033336 tn?1252509731 Following then onwards, I have experince pain trobbing at the back, in between the joint of knees, in between the hip joint, upper and lower both of the legs, at the joints of the arms, in between fingers, at the palm of hands and feet. Am i suffering from fibromyalgia? Do i need to do a full body check-up for diagnosis?
358486 tn?1294779988 One more reason thought to be implicated in post surgery fibromyalgia is ..... the neck is hyper-extended while doing the intubation and this constitutes a neck injury! Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn I had spinal fusion and harrington rods surgery in 1987 in the lumbar area for congenital scoliosis. I also have osteoarthritis, cervical arthritis and fibromyalgia and sometimes severe headaches. I have been reading the posts from the different people and I am sorry to say that I can relate to the unbearable pain.
1378884 tn?1315509445 In a nutshell, osteoarthritis is wear-and-tear on the joint. It can happen at any age, not just to "old people". It can be brought on by an injury, a congenital deformity, overuse in a sport or job. RA is a malfunction of the immune system in which it mistakes joint tissue, mainly the cartilage, as something that must be attacked and eliminated. This causes the typical swelling, redness, heat, and over time, damage that causes pain and disability.
272434 tn?1228610809 It's so hard to tell what is related to what when one has fibromyalgia and I am not sure doctors know either so I have learned to listen to my body and my intuition more and treat myself gently...
432312 tn?1265648574 I would ask them to rule out any type of arthritis and fibromyalgia. I do get the muscle spasms and type of pain you mention with my fibromyalgia. By going on a drug like Neurontin, Lyrica, Cymbalta or Savella it can help with the pain, spasms and nerve issues. I wish you luck in your journey.
1770280 tn?1314588560 My diet still consists of vitamins and supplements and I eat healthy most of the time ... and yes, I drink wine and beer which is supposed to be prohibited because I take meds for High BP, Thyroid and Cholesterol ... The purpose of life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave with a well-preserved body, but rather to Slide in Sideways, completely used up, yelling and screaming, what a ride! — Author Unknown And I'm doing my best!
975514 tn?1325001538 I think I have been misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia. And I feel as though I am getting weaker and weaker lately. I need some opinions from the group because my doctor doesn't seem to want to help me. First, I have a strong family history of autoimmune disease including RA, Reactive Arthritis (my father), thyroid and diabetes. I have been diagnosed with DDD, degenerative facet disease, and facet osteoarthritis.
1100837 tn?1267672275 Hello Leila006, It is not uncommon to have overlapping conditions such as RA and Fibromyalgia. I have Osteoarthritis of the spine, nerve damage and Fibromyalgia, which is different than what you are suffering from, but I have known a lot of people who have had both problems together. I am just guessing from what you have written, that the Lyrica has made you very drowsy...right?
Avatar f tn I have had fibromyalgia since a near fatal car accident 10 years ago. I am currently on Celexa and Methadone, and I have gained about 35 lbs. and I can't figure out how to stop it or why it is happening. My pain management doctor is a neurologist, and he just says it is a combination of the meds, menopause, not being as active, but he is not a diet doctor and his main concern is my pain. Is there another combination of meds that doesn't do this?
Avatar f tn I was just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I have some osteoarthritis and have had a hip replacement 4 yrs ago, in the last year I have becomed very fatigued, muscle pain especially in arms, shoulder area, hands and feet, I have very little energy to go to gym anymore, I heard that 50% of people with fibromyalgia also have low thyroid, even though my thyroid test shows normal, could thyroid medication help?
Avatar n tn Is it possible to have all 3 (Lupus, Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis) and if so, is it common? I guess I keep thinking that maybe it seems odd to be young and have all 3 at the same time. I want one or more to go away and only have to deal with one disease at a time. Also...I have a lymph node that has popped up on my shoulder that no one seems to care about...any thoughts on that. As I said I always blame it all on the Lupus, so I havae an answer. Thanks so much for any ideas!
Avatar n tn Today I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and hip bursitis and tendonnitus in my elbow area. I've had pain in my forearm muscles and joint near my eblow for a few months. It started on the left elbow area and then after about month it suddenly quit hurting and being sure and started up in the right upper are and joint near my elbow. Yesterday when it suddenly started up in my thigh, I thought enough, get to the Dr.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you are getting a little bit of the run around here. You really need to see a Rheumatologist who is friendly to Fibromyalgia. I looked at your profile and didn't notice where you live. Are you in the states or outside? Below is a really good website to find a doctor or provider who knows how to treat and diagnose FM and CFS. Depending on where you live, I may have one more site for you. http://www.co-cure.org/Good-Doc.
Avatar f tn I too have type 2 diabetes, and fibro, and also throw in degenerative osteoarthritis. At one time I was seeing a phusical therapist, for the fibro. I had lots of fatty lumps as you describe them. The PT said they were from myofascial spasm syndrome. He would exert hard pressure to break them up. Stripping up and down my arms, legs, ribcage, exc. Left lots of bruises. Over the years they have come back.
Avatar f tn I've seen 3 rheumatologists, confirmed fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. I have seen 3 neurologists to confirm cervical dystonia. I have tons of meds and Botox injections for the tug of war inside my body. It is excrutiatingly painful and is also manifests all along my whole right side- jaw, eyes, face, shoulder, hip, thighs, ribs and calf. I went to multiple chiros and massage therapists and even tried acupuncture.
Avatar n tn In my last visit, she pointed out to me that in my c-scan in 2004 I had moderate osteoathritis in my spine and I went for another shoulder and neck xray to see if this could be causing the problems. I am a 44 year old female PE teacher and she felt this had shown up at a young age. I have played many sports and had minor injuries. I will have to wait for the x-ray resullts because I am in a remote area and they read tests once evry 2 weeks or so.
Avatar n tn i have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, diagnosed in 1992 by rheumotologist.experience muscle and joint pain all of the time. also have multiple bone spurs on my spinal vertebrae which cause pain. my current dr. prescribed pravistacin 25mg. to control my cholesterol levels. are there contritictions with this drug and my mentioned conditions?
Avatar m tn Hi Desmon , Diagnosis of Fibromyalgia involves careful examination and a detailed history from patient .Wide spread body pain is manifested in many conditions like neck pain syndrome, low back pain, local tendonitis, trauma-related pain syndromes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, osteoarthritis of the knee or hand, and other painful disorders. These patients have some symptoms that mimic fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn But then it started happening when I was at gymnastics and when the girls would jump over something my leg would kick, I take Klonopin(clonazepam), if I forget or just get tired of taking so much medication the kicking will start back up, 2 nights ago I was watching a moving and a guy was being chased and running and jumping and my leg just kept jerking so hard.
Avatar f tn I had been seeing a nurse practioner for the last 10 years or so but it's gotten worse.. I also have osteoarthritis and early onset osteoporosis and had been seeing a rheumatologist since the 1980's. Long story short...have new rheum. doc and he's prescribed celebrex but nothing for pain & fibro. He says go to my family doctor for the fibro and take advils & tylenols for pain, because percosets, loratabs, etc does not work for osteo. Advils/ tylenols  DO NOT work for me!!!
996946 tn?1503252712 He and I got into a bit of a heated discussion about how to differentiate arthritis pain from fibro-m pain, and in the end, he said that whatever one calls it, pain is pain, and that in his practice, he's seen symptoms of osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia (I have both) overlap. He and I have a long-standing professional relationship and have developed a good rapport over the years - I don't think he was being "smart" or dismissive when he told me that.
Avatar n tn I take morphine, anti-inflammatories and Neurontin (generic does not help at all) for my pain (a combination of FM, restless leg, osteoarthritis, migraines and urethral "discomfort"). My strategy is to treat each separate disorder and not assume all pain is FM. (I've gotten myself into a lot of trouble over the years thinking something was FM when it was really something else). Heat helps a lot.
