483733 tn?1326798446 My father was disabled from osteoarthritis when I was a teenager and gave up on life. He just ate and sat in his chair watching TV. He is now morbidly obese and as a consequence greatly suffers even more due to the weight on his joints. I am determined to not let that happen to me and this diagnosis is spurring me to lose the weight and stay active. Do any of you have advice on best exercises for an arthritic body?
Avatar m tn Hello to all, I have done MRI last month and seems that I have osteophytes at the top of my left hip, that is caused by Osteoarthritis. The problem is that i had the pain for almost a year, however the doctor did not notice anything and sent me for physiotherapy... Now i decided to do x-rays and mri with the results above shown. I used to be very active – from 10 years old playing soccer and basketball, now I am (or rather was) playing soccer in a team.
Avatar f tn I typically need a day or two of Vicodin for that as the Celebrex does not seem to work for that. These have worked for years, but I was recently diagnosed with lymphoma and told that Celebrex is not recommended with the oral chemo medication they want to put me on (Ibruntinib) because of severe bleeding issues. So obviously I am going to have to find an alternative pain med for my osteoarthritis. Tylenol doesn't do a thing. Vicodin doesn't really do much either (not for the knee pain).
2167803 tn?1338529751 Hi, I am not a dr. but have a lot of arthritis, but I have also had tendonitis and it might be that--the tight feeling. I know that unbearable pain. Do you have swelling? Have you done too much exercise lately? Does your low back hurt also?

765775 tn?1366024691 , an independent consultant specializing in addiction and pain medicine, praised the thoroughness of this review and pointed out the very low rate of signs of addiction in treated pain patients. A take-home message for physicians reading this review is that all relevant studies find that long-term opioid therapy improves the life of non-cancer patients experiencing chronic pain and is both safe and effective, DeLuca said, and there is zero evidence to the contrary.
Avatar f tn I love the poll on meds! Many of us have sought connections between MS and other health issues. Let's develop a list of other health issues and then poll the forum. What issues should we include? 1. thyroid 2. tachycardia/arrhythmia 3. hypertension 4. diabetes 5. gall bladder 6. arthritis 7. psoriasis 8. I'm drawing a blank, but I know there are other issues mentioned frequently on the forum?????
529224 tn?1400648219 hi sarit, the sole reason of a TKR depends on the walking distance. If you have pain on rest, or as soon as you start walking, or there is too much of bending of your knees, then you should not waste any time and get the replacement done. However if you have a good walking distance (say more than 2-3 kms), then you will benefit from Synvics injections or a steroid injection also. So you tell me, wht's your walking distance?
Avatar m tn Over the past 7 months, I have developed worsening pain in joints which started in the front of my hips and lower back. The pain has spread to back of hips and thoracic back region. I have intermittent pain in one of my left ribs, and left elbow. Pain in hips and back exacerbated by exercise but is also waking me up at night. pain worsened by sitting long periods. The pain is a 5 out of 10 but is always with me. Relevant facts about me: 1. 41 y.o.
Avatar f tn Yoga typically involves deep breathing, stretching, and poses that tone, strengthen, and align the body. Both of these low-impact exercises are easy on the joints and can improve flexibility and muscle strength. Look for classes or you can buy a DVD. The latissimus dorsi is the broadest muscle in your back. Stand with your back straight and feet shoulder-width apart. Hold your arms above your head, and hold one hand with the other.
Avatar f tn I once weighed 210. I now weigh 162. I have lost 48 lbs very slowly, but when I got this heavy manual labor job, it came off faster. The thing is, I've had to quit due to severe chronic pain. I am a 47 year old female with great blood pressure and glucose levels, but I have an emergency inhaler. I am desperately afraid of losing the ground I have gained in my weight loss. I don't want to be fat anymore.
1069378 tn?1255215132 The surgeon found that I had a discoid lateral meniscus, removed the tear and trimmed the remaining cartilage to the proper "C" shape. He told me that except for the tear and the discoid meniscus, everything was in great shape and healthy. Well, it is 10 months later, in which I did 6 months of P.T., but my knee never healed and in fact the pain has spread to other parts of my knee and my knee swells very easily when I do anything (upright, sitting, sleeping).

Avatar n tn I've been taking PPI's for years per my doctor's instructions. I would like to ask my GI doc about this since I have a problem with my bones. He wouldn't take anyone's opinion on a forum seriously. Would you have a good web site that states this effect of the PPI's and the bones? A site that a doctor would take seriously? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Still, these exercises, such as lifting and lowering the leg from the knee while sitting in a chair, are gentle and use your own body weight to create resistance, which makes them a perfect workout for those with arthritis. Again, work with a physical therapist or medical professional to choose the best exercises for your particular situation. An exercise routine that can be done anytime, anywhere, alone, or with a group? Walking might be a perfect match.
Avatar n tn In the medical literature, there has been several descriptions of patients with sudden onset of hemifacial sweating and flushing, induced by exercise and heat. This has been referred to in the medical literature as Harlequin sign (though several other genetic syndromes bare a similar name, so please do not confuse them with what you might have). In general, hemifacial hidrosis could be due to a problem in the autonomic nervous system.
Avatar f tn Treatment of Osteoarthritis consists of exercise, manual therapy, lifestyle modification, medication and other interventions to alleviate pain. If these fail then you go for surgery. Joint replacement surgery may be required. Individuals with very painful OA joints may require surgery such as fragment removal, repositioning bones, or fusing bone to increase stability and reduce pain.

Have any of you had good results with yoga or Pilate's? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in.advance.
Avatar n tn I attempted to review the medical literature but there is virtually no literature on this topic. I would get the MRI to see if this is truly a cyst. Sometimes people with a previous history of syphilis get aortic aneurysms or cysts. If that is not your case you may have cystic medial necrosis..I think the MRI will help clarify.
Avatar m tn I have seen an opthalmologist who says there is nothing wrong with my eyes, but said perhaps it could be due to circulation or perhaps nerves, I have had a couple of treadmill tests for blood pressure and ecg in the last few years, and also a carotid artery scan, they are all normal, my blood pressure is also fine, I do have osteoarthritis of the neck, could this be affecting my eyesight in someway by restricting the blood flow, or affecting the nerves, I would be extremely grateful for your a
