Common Questions and Answers about Osteoarthritis and cancer

Avatar n tn To start radiation (for comfort-stage 4) and concerned that scans can't differentiate between severe osteoporosis and bone cancer and that with radiation will risk spinal fracture if osteoporosis is radiated. Mirco ct scan not available in Canada. Any suggestions or info would be helpful.
1266954 tn?1270221125 For the past years, I have been taking 3-4 7.5/325 Vicodin per day for "total body osteoarthritis". I have tried NSAIDS, aspirin, and Ultram without any relief. Also, because of a previous HA, I want to avoid NSAIDS. When Vicodin was changed from Schedule III to II this year, my GP became more reluctant to continue my 3-4 pill per day "habit" due to regulatory pressure to wean patients completely off opiods of any strength.
Avatar f tn My right tibia is bent and I am now pigeon toed. Severe pain in legs, hips and back my liver and kidney functions tests do not always come out good. I have almost an ongoing UTI. My hair falls out, I have white spots on my skin, headaches and it seems like new symptoms every day. I have lost 32 lbs in 2 months. Is it possible that I could have lupus related cancer? Who do I need to see, oncologist, rheumatologist or who?
20846676 tn?1533694615 The fatigue would not leave me for anything so I go see a rheumatologist that told me I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. I take my meds on time all the time but still the same thing with the fatigue, then I had done some fasting appointments with my primary and was told I am vitamin D deficient and for the rest of my life I would have to take 2000 units of vitamin D every day which I have been doing thus far.
Avatar n tn See your primary care doctor, and ask about osteoarthritis or other reasons for these joint pains. They can help you with it.
Avatar f tn My mother died last year at age 67 from stage 4 breast cancer but she had been diagnosed over the years with multiple things like fybromyalgia, diabetes, Gerd, osteoparoses, Sjogren Syndrome, conjestive heart failure after her first bout with breast cancer and chemo, and the list goes on and on and on. she had the nissen surgery, gallbladder removel, tonsils removed, a defibulator implant and so on.
Avatar n tn Living this far away is particularly rough in times like this We are going crazy in anticipation of what they might say. She has beaten cancer twice now - breast cancer and lymphoma. She took tomoxafin for years, now femera, in the hopes of keeping further breast cancer away. Upon a recent visit to the eye doctor, they noticed something behind her eye and told her it has to be cancer again. Actually, they said "There's no way it's not cancer".
Avatar f tn Statistics show that approximately one out of every 1000 or so surgeries results in morbidity or death for no apparent reason, and they never do find the cause. And this is even with pre-op blood tests, X-Rays, ECG, etc, to make sure the animal can safely undergo anesthesia. Surgery and anesthesia for any reason is a very serious undertaking and causes great stress on the body. Stress can take many forms including heart or other organ failure.
Avatar n tn HI: My prayers go out to you and your family. I don't understand why a patient is ever told that they are "cancer free". In alot of cases that I read about, a patient is told this, and then within a short time later they are being told, oh I'm sorry but, "its back" and now your terminal! Cancer cells begin seeding as soon as they tap into a blood supply no matter how small they are..
Avatar f tn osteoarthritis, tendonitis, muscle pull and strain, femoral neck stress fractures, sports hernia or hidden/occult hernia of oblique aponeurosis, or Obturator or ilioinguinal nerve entrapment. You would need all or any of the following for diagnosis: Clinical examination by an orthopedic specialist, X-rays, blood tests, MRI or ultrasonnography. MRI of pelvis will not pick up hip pathology unless targeted at that. Hope this helps.
941625 tn?1263585382 Hi all! I am two years out from chemo and radiation for stage three endometrial cancer (possibly considered stage one endo and stage one ovarian since my metastize was found on the ovaries). I did six rounds of chemo and 33 radiation treatments. I have had chronic and horrible lower back pain ever since. I have been seeing a rheumatologist for this, and he found some arthritis and fused vertebraes.

Avatar n tn I can tell you that 50% of people who have pancreatic cancer are jaundice and/or experience other symptoms such as weight loss, fatigue, abdomen discomfort and loss of appetite. Your physician already did an ultrasound and checked your pancreas.. correct? That is one of the tests that would rule out pancreatic cancer. I would relax and take a deep breath. Anxiety can definitely make anything worse, especially pain.

Avatar m tn A work-up in the hospital ruled out hip fracture, cancer, etc. . Only mild osteoarthritis of the right hip . A Rheumatologist thought I had Pagets Disease of the bone , but a complete bone scan showed no evidence of Pagets disease. For several months I have also developed the same type of pain in my left hip AND pain in the pelvic bone on sitting . The pain is controlled with Lortab 5/500 4 to 6 times daily .

Avatar n tn My husband was misdiagnosed with things such as fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis and the dr couldn't find anything else to pin his symptoms on. So now we have a diagnosis after all this time and it's a simple blood test that is not routine. People diagnosed with iron overload often, OFTEN have thyroid problems, and b12 deficiencies are common as well, and hypothyroidism is a major issue in this disorder. Iron loads onto thryoid and also pituitary gland causing hormonal changes.
Avatar f tn He's a nationally recognized breast pathologist and medical director of The Breast Cancer Consultation Service. From what I read, in most case's like mine of DCIS there is very small benefits from radiation or Femara. Thanks so much for your reply and sharing your experience. I wish you the very best.
Avatar n tn What I would say is now known and more and more information is coming on this - is that what we call ovarian cancer is not just one disease. Even for those cancers that look the same under the microscope (example: grade 3 serous papillary adenocarcinoma), there are porbbaly many different diseases based on molecular profile.
Avatar n tn I have osteoarthritis and a sever injury in my left ankle, I wear a brace and walking or exercising is almost out of the question. I'm not supposed to pick up anything over a pound and I have lost 1/2 inch in leg length. I also went through menapuse early. Maybe I had hep then. I'm not sure. I need a good Dr. They have not treated me except with pain meds. I also have herniated disc in back and degenerative ones. I eat plenty of yogurt, hope this helps.
1320130 tn?1296057188 It especially hurts if I have been inactive for more than 15 minutes. My doctor did a bone scan and results were good for no cancer, but is this really arthritis?I did not have it before the chemotherapy.
1259963 tn?1284488560 I'M disgusted the FDA has stated opiate relief so yay I get the six on my typical day on the pain scale five if I'm really swinging and ten with flares and fevers galore and tears...I have been laughed at even asking one M.D.along the way if in fact I was going insane...did that physically hurt? My body has been without its own defense therefore invaded then turned against me it's very owner.
Avatar f tn Ok so about a week ago my girlfriend noticed a minor pain in her shoulder, which is constant and never relents. The day after she noticed the pain her leg was in so much pain to the point she could not stand up but it eventually got better but her shoulder still hurts constantly even with tylenol. She is a swimmer and slightly overwieght, shes 5'8 at about 160LBs I thought it was just too much phsycial activity but she has a lump on her right shoulder just between her deltoid and clavicle.
1684282 tn?1505701570 I am becoming somewhat frustrated with the way a lot of my colleagues practice medicine. Disenchanted, angry would be the other words that could be used. We all get ostensibly that same training and all of us are supposedly in it to help our patients. So, how come have I been getting so many letters lately on my addiction forum from desperate people unable to quit taking the tramadol pills that their own kind doctors have so freely prescribed for them?
Avatar n tn So my regular doctor referred me to an oncologist who didn’t even run any tests, she just took my history and said that she felt pretty certain that it was not cancer and felt very strongly about it being autoimmune. So I felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere with my last rheumatologist and felt he was cold and uncaring and so my regular doctor sent me to a new rheumatologist out of town. This new doctor told me he was going to disregard all my previous tests and run his own.
Avatar f tn Needless to say, the dr gave me steroid injections in my knees to help the swelling. He told me that I had fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. He gave me Savella and muscle relaxers and sent me home. He also found that my Vitamin D was really low so he started me on high levels of that too. The VERY NEXT DAY I was in such severe pain! I thought that my bones were being pulled apart by my muscles. I would cry if I moved. My husband couldn't even touch me. The doc said to decrease the Savella.
