Orapred dosage in children for croup

Common Questions and Answers about Orapred dosage in children for croup

orapred

Avatar n tn My son started doing a similar eye rolling back in Feb. I swear it started after a few doses of Orapred for Croup. Been to pediatrician, neurologist had EEG all came back good. When he rolls his eyes they either go up real quick or up to a side just for a second. I am torn if its a voluntary or involuntary action, sometimes I think he is doing it voluntarily and if thats the case I am not worried, but other times he looks like its involuntary.
Avatar n tn My now 16yr old had her first round of croup at 8 weeks old and turned blue in her crib and her first diagnosed asthma at age 18mos ... so you have come to the right place for "Mom" experience with croup. She had croup no less than 6-8X a year and now looking back at her history (she is documented asthmatic) she was probably having RAD or asthma going on which was misdiagnosed as croup or was croup along with the asthma. She was on nebulizerr, etc.
Avatar f tn During our last ER visit for allergic reaction (severe stridor), the doc wasn't thrilled we gave Orapred along with the Benadryl .. he said in her case iI should have used the Epi Pen and called 911 ... but he tolerated that I gave the Orapred with high end Benadryl dosing and then, of course, had to tell me I gave too little Orapred (with a stern look on his face), so they administered more in the hospital ... ok ok .... the bottle was over a year old & the dose was too little ....
Avatar f tn Its rare but possible for a child to have bipolar disorder. If he is diagnosed with Asperger's that is a developmental disability and although those can have behavioral problems that can be severe they don't generally respond to medication like psychiatric disabilities such as bipolar or ADHD but both diagnoses can occur together. They need to provide specific diagnoses as for follow up and treatment and you should discuss this further with them.
Avatar f tn The next morning at 5am he was gasping for air. When I called the ped. she told that he had croup and to put him under a steam shower for 20 minutes. After about 10-15 minutes the breathing was better. When we went to the docter, he had an ear infection in each ear and sinusitus. She gave him antibiotics. After he took the med. for the 10 days,he still had a bad cough for a long time that wouldn't go away, and he was having coughing fits. When he was rechecked he had bronchitis.
Avatar f tn It is likely, that your son will continue to have wheezing episodes with infections and possibly with exposure to certain allergens. If your son is allergic, you should know that cats are a major factor for allergic/asthmatic children. Hope this response helps.
Avatar n tn We went to the ER 2 weeks ago and followed up with his md who gave him prednisone for 4 days to help with the inflamed airways for his croup, but it also lowers the immune system which is why we had to wait another week to get his vaccinations. He had an elevated body temperature last night, but it was 100.9 rectally so I wasn't too concerned. Last night and tonight he seems fussier than normal and just looks like he isn't feeling well.
Avatar f tn He went to school that day for the 2.5 hrs hes in prek. Wednesday he woke up coughing like crazy. Again i brought him and she said it was the start of CROUP. His lungs were clear and she said to give him 15mg of Prednosolone 2 tiems a day. ...it seems to get the coughing to ease up. Today i put him in the shower w me to clean him up a bit and he began to get hives on his face like crazy. scratching he was so upset. I quickly gave him Benadryl and he was ok after a while. My question is this...
Avatar f tn I had croup when I was 15. At the time I had undiagnosed autoimmune pernicious anaemia (vitamin B12 is essential for a healthy immune system). "Teens who have not developed antibodies to the viruses that cause croup and those whose immune systems are compromised can develop viral croup." - Livestrong - Croup in teens.
Avatar f tn After a weekend in the hospital, on nubulizer treatments, plus baby prednisone and back on the puffers,as well as an antiobiotic, she was released and we were to continue the puffers for a month. After that month was up, we did a follow up Xray and it showed no change in her inflamed lungs.I was shocked, as she was doing better, sleeping better, etc. My Dr.

Avatar n tn Hi, My son has just come out of Intensive Care for the second time and has severe croup. I too am looking for answers. He has seen an ENT, cardiologist, respiratory specialist all with no answers. I can't sleep at night for fear of an attack. He is on pulmicort nebs twice a day, Intal forte, nasonex and maybe singulair if decided by drs this week. Any advice would be so welcomed.
Avatar n tn I have to be very picky of who she plays with because the littlest runny nose in a child will cause her to get croup. I hate that she goes thru this. ANY help or answers would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn My daughter has been tested twice for mono and strep in the last 3 weeks. Someone suggested that she may have herpes of the throat. Her symptoms are swollen tonsils, puss pockets at times on the tonsils, skin tenderness, puffy face. She has been on Orapred for the inflammation and that seems to help. Just wanted to know if these were any symptoms of that disease.
Avatar f tn My son's seemed to be worse first thing when he woke up, and later in the evening.
Avatar f tn That being the case, does not necessarily mean that your son has asthma; just that his odds of having it are higher than in children similar to him, but without eczema. However having a “rattling in his breathing for 4 weeks” is not a basis for making the diagnosis of asthma. Four weeks is more consistent with an acute, usually viral, respiratory infection. That his Pediatrician has observed it to be “coming from high up”, further weakens the likelihood that this is asthma.
Avatar f tn Our daughter is 20 months old. She had two heart defects at birth and had a really rough start. We notice that she is frequently ill. In the last 10-12 months (ever since she stopped receiving Synagis) she has had croup 8x, she's had several sinus/upper respiratory infections, 3 or 4 ear infections, a throat infection, a couple 24 hour fevers, and now, just this past week, all in one week she developed: ear infection, oral thrush, a vaginal yeast infection, and then a viral rash.
Avatar m tn Certainly removing any allergens she may have is important in helping to control her asthma. In return if her asthma is more in control, she might be less susceptible to other viruses, such as the croup.
Avatar f tn If your daughter is not improving, discuss the above with her doctor. In this circumstance, she may have something other than croup that would respond to antibiotic therapy.
568659 tn?1256139982 I have been doing the hot shower thing and taking him out in the cold air. I also have a humidifier in his room and I have been giving him chamomile tea with honey but he seems to be getting worse. What do you ladies think?
Avatar f tn What would help me is my mom putting me in the bathroom with the shower running on hot and having me sit in the steam, or wrapping me in a blanket and sitting on the porch in the cold. It would help break up the mucus and she would pat my back so I would cough it up. It might be worth trying if this every happens to your daughter again.
Avatar n tn hello my two years old son has an anemia and now is taking ferrous sulfide 3 bottles he took the first bottle already so befor e the 2 blood test due date he had an allergy asme coughing so his taking liquid ventolin albuterol, and ceron for cough and prednisolone orapred, its ben already 4 days and now i can see under his eyes bruises like sometimes reddish sometimes blue and dark specially at nights.
Avatar f tn My little princess is 3 months old now and this morning i took her to the doc because she had a terrible cough. Come to find out she has croup which then let to bronchitis. She has been put on steroids to help her but i feel so bad for her. Other than steam or taking her outside when she has a coughing fit there's nothing i can do for her. Breaks my heart. She is my fourth and none of my boys had it. So sad for her.
Avatar f tn Be prepared to give your emergency meds (albuterol) if you notice his voice is tighter or he is taking short or rapid breaths. Getting the rescue meds in timeand taking them for a day or two about every 4 hours (what DS asthma doctor reccomended) usually heps in keeing my son off predinosolone.
