But as soon as I quit taking the prednisone it seemed the rash got twice as bad. Went back to doc and got 10 mgs of prednisone, take 3 for 3 days, then 2 for 3 days, then one. The rash went away a lil more. Now it seems as if the rash may be coming back again. My question is will taking to small of a dose, or not taking the prednisone until the rash clears up. Will that cause the rash to come back?

I took it for a severe poison ivy allergic reaction once. It worked for the posion ivy. But I had a MASSIVE personality change. I'm pretty sure I turned into satan during that time. It was awful and I refuse to take it again. Plus, I couldn't sleep on it.

I have had poison ivy for almost two weeks. Monday since it had spread to my legs from my arms, I went to a doctor. He gave me a shot, some methylprednisol, and other pills for the itch. I have friend that abused prednisone for his breathing issues and his wife for her arthritis. They both ended up in serious trouble and took them 2 years to get straightened out. They sure felt good the first couple months until they destroyed their immune systems. Yes it is has the stigma and attitude of a gremlin, don't get it wet or it gets nasty.

I have never had poison ivy before. I have these little tiny bumps, almost blister like, thet itch so bad. i have them all over my knuckles, my neck, the side of my face and my eyelids. I am concerned about my eyelids. the ones all over my knuckles are breaking open and are really starting to hurt. The itching is driving me crazy. There is no relief from it. Massage the ear real good and wipe out solution and gunk with some gauze. This will help change the ph in the ear and dry it out but use solution for one day then mix fresh the next day. Do this before putting the drops in that you get from your vet.

Well, Jess, MS neuros have been administering huge doses of steroids for TN and other MS flares for many years. Most patients tolerate them well or at least feel that a few days of bearable side effects are worth it to get rid of the pain. I've had 2 TN attacks that have been awful. I cannot take Tegretol because it destroys my blood platelets, also my balance. I seem to do well on IV Solumedrol for TN and other issues, and feel okay about that since it's been only once a year or so.

If you start breaking out in other areas, it will be time to see your doctor. It is possible for it to become systemic which will require an oral steroid like prednisone or Mederol (methylprednisolone). Feel better. God bless.

I recently cam down with moderately bad case of poison ivy. I went to my dermatologist who was not present and was seen by the physicains assistant. She prescribed a burst of prednisone (5 days 2x20mg, 5 days 1x10mg). I took my first dose immediately (2x20mg). The rash began to subside but I don't like the side effects (insomnia) and would rather sit out the poison ivy. I wish the p.a. had discussed the potential side effects before prescriing this highly potent drug.

I don't think I would've taken a chance with the beehive in the first place. I don't know if the poison ivy story is really true, because I have become allergic to wasp stings, so I wouldn't have even attempted to annoy the bees in the first place. That said, I do know that stinging nettles are also used medicinally for allergies. But, you don't have to get stung by the nettles to get the benefits from it. You buy it dried at the herbalist or even the vitamin store.

Been about two weeks, seen three different doctors, all have diagnosised this as poison ivy. Was on prednisone (no impact), an antibotic (didnt hit it), multiple steroid creams. Unprotected oral is low risk for any std transmission and protected sex is no risk for any std transmission including HIV. I would think that this could be more than a dermatological problem than it is a std related problem. Personally, it looks like some sort of rash that looks like poison ivy but the pattern makes it so hard for me to identify. I wish I could be more of a help.

When on Prednizone for poison ivy my fasting blood sugar drops from 150 to 107. Does this mean that there is adrenal exhaustion? When I go off the medication the blood sugar goes back up. This happened a year ago and is happening now. The endocrinologists in my area are not taking new patients.
