Avatar f tn I take 12-15 lortab 10 a day,my doctor in an effort to help me get off, gave me opana er but insurance wouldn't cover,it cost too much to pay out of pocket.looked up some ER meds my insur.would cover.here they are hydromorph, oramorph, and oxycodone er. I know I am trading one substance for another but have tried weaning myself off the lortabs and screw up everytime. His,my doc's idea was for me to take the opana er twice a day for a month then once a day.I have legit.
Avatar m tn You are taking Opana ER every 4-6 hours? Opana ER is meant to be taken every 12 hours, not every 4-6 hours. In fact, most insurance companies will not pay for extended release medications to be taken more than 2 times per day. I am very surprised that both your doctor and insurance are permitting the dosing schedule you stated. https://www.belbuca.
1264863 tn?1391118193 Opana ER is oxymorphone hydrochloride in an extended-release tablet. I have not been prescribed the med. I am sorry that I cannot help you with personal information. I have heard through the years on MH that this is an effective narcotic. It's actions are very similar to other opiates in it's class. I hope members that have had this med or are currently being prescribed it will respond to your post. How are you doing? How's your pain?
Avatar m tn Opana worked well for me... But I have never had a med that works as long as it is supposed to! Have you ever tried Exalgo? It is hydromorphone instead of oxymorphone. I've done both but I'm on MS Contin for my extended release right now, it works well. Low dose ER meds only help to take the edge off so that the instant release works a little better. Maybe you should try a new IR like Roxie's, nucynta, or dilaudid.
Avatar m tn I agree with Geminigirl and Tuckamore's comments that medications affect everyone differently and what may work for someone may not work well for you. But given my recent medication change to Opana ER, I have found information all across the internet from other chronic pain patients that are being switched from Oxycontin to Opana ER due to their doctor's unwillingness to continue to prescribe the medication due to bad press and associated fear from DEA prosecution.
Avatar f tn I would give the medication 5-7 days for your body to adjust and go from there; Opana is an extended release medication so it needs time. One cannot predict how your body might respond to this medication; trial and error. If after 5-7 days the drowsiness and headaches are worse let Pain Management know. Keep in mind, everybody's system is different. What one person might experience taking a medication does NOT mean you will too.
1059594 tn?1261323966 Opana comes in both extended release form and immediate release. So cutting an immediate release Opana if directed by your physician would cause so ill effects. You are correct that cutting an extended release medication is never advisable and could have dangerous results. The key is knowing the difference and again following your physicians directives. I hope this explanation was helpful.
Avatar f tn I would make sure that this last prescription wasn't accidentally filled with the instant release and not the ER version... And I think you blended two med names with Oxycontin MS...Oxycontin is a med all by itself..It is Oxycodone in Continuous formula...hence the "contin"....MS usually stands for Morphine Sulfate and comes in both IR (immediate release) or ER (extended release formulas)... If it is a 12 hour version...then usually most Drs. are ok with dosing it every 8 hours..
541953 tn?1262586226 Hi, Iknow it has been a few years since your post, i was wondering how you are doing on the Opana ER. I am switching from Opana 30 mg ER to Morphine 60 mg ER.The Opana gave me side effects, dizziness, being in withdrawl if I missed a dose, and it did not help my chronic pain.. I have tried many ER drugs and I am having a hard time finding many of them. Plus my breakthrough meds are also hard to find.
725248 tn?1316162245 Have you tried the extended release formula for Dilaudid? A new extended release formulation (OROSĀ®) of Hydromorphone is available and I believe it is more afforable than the Fentanyl. Here is link about the medication... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2697506/ I wish you the best of luck. With today's economy we have to get what we can afford.
1331804 tn?1336867358 Perhaps taking one 30 mg Opana ER tablet during the day and one 10 or 15 mg Opana ER tablet at night before bedtime is the right way to go. Weathergirl, while the calcs weren't exactly right, I agree with you that the 15 mg Opana ER tablet during the day probably won't be enough and I will still have to take breakthrough meds that will probably end up equaling the equivalent of one 30 mg Opana ER tablet.
Avatar n tn I've been taking opana er for a while to help with chronic pain. I'm so tired of living on pain medicine and want to stop. Can anyone please tell me what I can expect as far as how long I will be sick and just how sick I will get?
Avatar m tn So my husband has been on a progressive pain pill diet for about 6 + years for his back (degenerative disc disease with nerve damage) He has been on Norco 10-325 for at least one year taking 4-6 a day occasionally more but usually sticking to 4. His doctor switched him to Opana ER 10MG and gave him Opana IR 5MG incase of break through pain.
Business woman2 25, 37.5, 50, 75, and 100. Also, the extended release forms of Venlafaxine capsules come in many strengths too: 37.5, 75, and 150. Most of the tablet forms will contain Lactose and Gluten. Some of the extended release capsules do not contain neither Gluten nor Lactose. It will help me very much, if I know the dosage form and strength. We might be able to find you a supplier that do not use Lactose and Gluten in its Venlafaxine. Thanks and be well.
Avatar f tn The Opana is longer acting, it could be easier to taper Extended Release Opana, as your blood levels would be more consistent. Oxycodone goes up fast and down fast, not easy to taper. Did you ask the doctor WHY is he changing you script?
Avatar m tn If your Rx is for 5mg tab it will be easy to adjust your taper dose. Make sure you are not on the ER tablet. Those are extended release and you won't be able to break them in 1/2. Can you tell us what strength you take, and when you take them?
