Avatar f tn Does the Ultra mini hurt when using it? I've read that the lancet can be painful. Also, what do you think about testing on the forearm instead of the finger?
Avatar m tn Would checking your blood sugar level 3 hours after a meal be considered "BEFORE" OR "AFTER" a Meal.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.
Avatar n tn Okay - I was happy with my One Touch Ultra. Yes, it failed to pipe up enough blood sometimes resulting in a wasted strip. Yes, the 1 mu thing is a marketing gimmick since it still wants 3 mu of blood or the strip won't fill and you get an error. But - I learned its qwirks and got used to it.
Avatar n tn My sister in law takes her blood sugar reading with a One Touch Ultra Smart tester. She gets a reading of 440. Sometimes the numbers are even higher. How can this be so high without major problems? My husband took his reading and got 86. She is a believer of herbals and supplements. Could one of these make a false reading? We have tried to get her to go to a Doctor, but she won't.
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
180395 tn?1287493997 Once before breakfast and once before lunch. So I decided to buy a glucose monitor to check to see if maybe low blood sugar was the culprit. Well this morning before I bought it I came to work, had 2 donuts for breakfast (this isnt an everyday thing, someone just decided to be nice and bring some to work this morning) then I had 2 cups of coffee with creamer that contains sugar and on the way to work this morning I had a large cup of sweet tea.
Avatar f tn my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
Avatar n tn I then went to bed (waited about 8 hours), woke up to do my blood sugar. Now, I have never used one (nor seen one used), so tried it out as I was going. I didn't realize you need to do a control? Before you test it OR that you need to "squeeze" the blood and "touch" it to the strip. So what I did was essentially "smear" it on the strip, test it...and it came back 201.
Avatar n tn Not sure if the lifescan (ultra touch 2) one does but I do like that I can download the results from the monitor to the computer with it even though it wouldn't be hard for me to do so manualy. Does anyone have any personal experience with diabetes software and have any to recommend from their experiences? Cons and pros would be greatly appreciated as everything is so new to me. Also, I'm rather good with a computer so I'm not intimidated by complexity of a program.
Avatar n tn Her doctor should have given her a chart and instructions when to monitor her blood sugars to see how she is getting on. Tell your mum to ask her doctor for a referral a dietician who specialises in diabetes. There is lots of information on the web too. The types of foods to avoid are all sugary and processed foods. High fibre foods, nuts, seeds, meats are slow release. Cut down on saturated fats as this can spike up sugar levels. Doing some form of exercise will help to burn the energy.
Avatar n tn I just got a call taht I failed teh oen hour glucose tst- which is SOSOOO weird for me- as I have always had low blood sugar- passing out- etc. My last pregnancy- I fainted and broke a bone from having low blood sugar- have to have juice/complex carbs. ANyhow- so it got me thinking that I ate a candy bar 1.5 before hand. Thsi test was also different than my others- as they took blood beforehand with my others and then following the yummy drink. Would eating teh candy bar affect it?
Avatar n tn At dinner I ate lasagna, salad, sweet tea. Anyway 30-45 minutes after dinner, my blood sugar was 118. Is this normal or does it seem kind of high? At the doctor last year fasting it was 91. Also, I have been suffereing from severe fatigue after my long runs and have to basically sit down for the rest of the day which I hate. I am going to start to check my blood sugar after these runs to see what it is. I eat alot after the long runs but it does not seem to help.

Avatar m tn Hi l have a Omron home blood pressure monitor and on medication for high blood pressure , l am 43 years old. About once every 15 or 20 tests the irregular heartbeat symbol appears, l follow the instructions and wait a few minutes and test myself again and the symbol never appears again in the second test. Should l be worried or could it be a false reading if it only shows up every 15 or 20 times use the monitor, is it normal to get an occasion irregular hearbeat reading on these machines?
Avatar f tn Everything's going pretty normal for me can't complain really .. and yes my Dr said if I haven't had him by 39wks he will induce me .. I was borderline w my first so they couldn't say I had it so I didn't watch my diet or anything when he was born he had extremely low blood sugar and they had to monitor him closely. . Fingers crossed my baby doesn't have that problem this time since I'm being monitored. .

Avatar f tn I am also having trouble with low blood sugar. My blood sugar goes from 44 to 255. I know normal is 80-120 . At the Diabetes clinic they said if mine dropped from 50-70 to take gluclose tabs, 8, but my body is reacting like a normal one. I take 4 at 44 which is life threatening low. I also notice that lately it's dropping after I eat which I don't understand. This discussion is related to Blood sugar drops after eating.
