Treated with Omnicef, Augmentin, Cliacin, Rocephin Shots, Bactrim, etc. Also on Claritin/Singulair at 10 months for sinus/allergy issues.
-Myringotomy at 12 months, with 10 day run of Augmentin and 6 day run of antibiotic ear-drops post-op.
-2 subsequent ear infections from 12-16 months. Treated with Augmentin, Bactrim. Still on Claritin/Singulair for sinus/allergy issues.
-Second myringotomy and adenoidectomy at 16 months. Very infected sinus cavities and ears.

So I was told a long time ago I have a bad allergy to penicillin, I just found out penicillium produces penicillin and was wondering because brie cheese has a rind made of penicillium if it's safe for me to eat this cheese? I ate a little bit of it and got somewhat sick roughly an hour later all before I found out what its rind is made of.

I had an acute allergic reaction on Jan. 2, 2008 to Penicillin, my hands swelled and were burning . I was hospitalized and given intervenous steroids. I continued on the sterdoids by mouth along with Zyrtec and Benedril. My hands completely peeled and everything was getting better when suddenly from out of nowhere the swelling came back to my hands and the burning, I went back to the ER and was admitted again, now I have been home two days and my hands are going to peel again.

I was diagnosed with a sinus infection about 2 weeks ago----was put on an antibiotic which did not help. Four days ago, I was put on Omnicef. Granted, I did have lots of congestion and green mucous throughout these past 2 weeks; however, now, I have nothing dripping nor do I feel like anything is clogged "in there"....yet my cheek still throbs in pain occasionally. Yes, I am on prescription decongestants. Occasionally I will still cough up some mucous from my chest.

You probably should be talking to your sons doctor or pharmacist and ask if it is ok that he takes the prevacid when he has an allergy to penicillin. I still was not feeling well, so went to the dr. again on Saturday and she said I was really congested and had tonsillitis and gave me Omnicef. Today is Wedensday and I am really not feeling that much better and still have the white patch on my tonsil. Shouldn't I be feeling better by now?
Thank you doctor I think i will insist on the shots. Would an allergy test tell me if I'm allergic to the penicillin? I took two doses of penicillin V 2 years ago for an eye infection and had a reaction to it (urticaria, fever). I then thought it was an allergic reaction but thinking about it it could have been the jarisch-herxheimer reaction. Would a simple allergy test tell me if i'm actually allergic to it?
