You probably should be talking to your sons doctor or pharmacist and ask if it is ok that he takes the prevacid when he has an allergy to penicillin. A lot can also depend on the type of reaction he gets from the penicillin as well. So my advice would be just to call up your pharmacist or doctor and ask. It never hurts to be safe rather then sorry. Hope that helps!
However penicillin allergy itself is very dangerous. Even if it causes mild reaction at the first dose, subsequent doses’ cumulative anaphylaxis is itself life threatening. Today there are many alternatives to penicillin.

Actually, I would avoid any product that has mold on it, mold, as you know, it a precursor to penicillin, and to be on the safe side, I would just avoid it. Have you had any food/chemical allergy tests? If not, I would suggest you inquire about them. The doctor writes a script for the lab to do some blood draws, and then they test the blood for certain allergens, I believe it is called the RAST test, I had one, I could not believe all I was allergic too. No wonder I always felt badly.
It is quite evident that you are allergic to penicillin mold like penicillin notatum and chrysogenum spp. Such allergy in patients ranges from mild rash to severe reactions and depends on the body's magnitude of sensitization to such molds.

First, I arrived at my appt. for 1:30, I had to wait about 20 mins. then when I get in, I had to wait again and fill out a ton of paperwork on what kind of allergies I had, I was only there to get a stinking allergy test done to see if I was allergic to penicillin, not for all the other bologna that I was questioned about.

I had an acute allergic reaction on Jan. 2, 2008 to Penicillin, my hands swelled and were burning . I was hospitalized and given intervenous steroids. I continued on the sterdoids by mouth along with Zyrtec and Benedril. My hands completely peeled and everything was getting better when suddenly from out of nowhere the swelling came back to my hands and the burning, I went back to the ER and was admitted again, now I have been home two days and my hands are going to peel again.

I was diagnosed with a sinus infection about 2 weeks ago----was put on an antibiotic which did not help. Four days ago, I was put on Omnicef. Granted, I did have lots of congestion and green mucous throughout these past 2 weeks; however, now, I have nothing dripping nor do I feel like anything is clogged "in there"....yet my cheek still throbs in pain occasionally. Yes, I am on prescription decongestants. Occasionally I will still cough up some mucous from my chest.

If a drug allergy happens like in case of penicillin allergy, it is sudden and right after taking the first dose itself. This itch can be due to viral infections as well. I suggest you to consult a doctor for your cough and coryza and get prescribed other oral antibiotics like cephalosporins.
It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

My dermatologist prescribed Augmentin 1g for 14 days for syphilis. I found out 4 days ago, both VDRL and FTA-ABS tests (IgG pos, IgM neg) confirmed that I do have a syphilis infection, and I was possibly infected 5 years ago( am I way past the secondary stage? possibly latent?). The dermatologist says that Augmentin should work, but I'm worried.
I will continue with the oral Augmentin, and re-test to see if it is working, but what are the chances it will?
