Omeprazole with or without food

Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole with or without food

Avatar m tn I advised her a lot of healthy food. She is 29 years old, i'm wondering if it is acid reflux or not, and if it has something to do with h.pylory. Does she need to do a endoscopy?
Avatar m tn Yes it only temporarily solves the problem, but especially at your age, things can improve with some time. Also sometimes certain food intolerances or lifestyles (ex. sleeping laying flat or eating soon before going to bed) can make reflux worse.
Avatar n tn The surgeon said I could continue with my medication at the time or have an operation. With additional advice I decided to stay on the Proton Pump Inhibitor (Omeprazole). It seems that extended use is supposedly not harmful to the body. I take a 20mg tablet daily and I can function fully and eat and drink absolutely anything as long as I have had the capsule. I soon know about it if I forget to take it! That seldom happens I assure you.
Avatar m tn I recently visited a doctor and was diagnosed with GERD to end up with a prescrip for Omeprazole 40 mg. I generally do NOT feel any reflux in my esophagus. Is this normal or it possible it is not GERD? I have experienced acid reflux up to my mouth [which is very unpleasant], but this is generally a VERY rare occurance. My sister had some 20 mg over the counter Omep. I have been taking 2 of these at the same time, once daily. Should I be taking the 2 for 40 mb or just one?
Avatar n tn I have been taking 40mg of omeprozole twice a day for several weeks. I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia on March 30. I am supposed to take this for three months and then drop down to once a day. Previous to my diagnosis I had taken 20 mg Prilosec OTC first once a day, than twice after my diagnosis, since the prescription was nearly $200.00 for just 2 weeks worth. I was still having heartburn at night so I finally filed the prescription.
Avatar f tn BUT one of her friends had the same issue (supposedly) with omeprazole, and it was resolved after taking the anti-biotics. Mom has had IBS for 20+ years and developed Diverticulosis / -itus about 10 years ago. About 4 years ago, she had a "lead pipe" section of her colon removed and she still has many problems. Garlic and onions in particular give her fits. So she has been on Prylosec and Prevecid (or however it is spelled) and different meds for years trying to find relief.

Avatar f tn palps come and go, and people will often blame food. In other words, it might not be the food. I was diagnosed with a hiatel hernia too, via endoscopy. Many people have this, seems to me more the norm. My PVCs come and go, I really stopped blaming my HH. Another thing to think about is that PPIs will deprive you of certain nutrients, magnesium being a big one, and low mg levels can have a profound effect on palps.
Avatar n tn I wound up here because, with the last attack and MD brushing it off as constipation, I became very discouraged and depressed. Had a lot of food/medication allergies to begin with, now I can hardly eat. No other Gastro Dr's left in my area.
Avatar f tn In regards to food, they didn't find any difference between those that took harvoni on an empty stomach or with food, so it seems that any efforts to make your harvoni absorb better is probably minimal at best, as it does a very good job either way, despite what many people may have been eating - quite possibly causing all kinds of acidic fluctuations.

Avatar m tn If you use it discreetly and don't use it to the max it will help. Most with GERD have food sensitivities and don't realize it. This is why the Benadryl helps. Benadryl will add to constipation issues, so definitely use it discreetly. Try to take only the 25 mg dose whenever you can when you need the Benadryl. And, always take vacations from taking the Benadryl for at least two weeks or longer.
Avatar n tn Is anyone having bowel symptoms [sotmach stuff] along with terrible acid reflux--in throat---yuk--and does omeprazole help---and with bowel stuff??? What is best time of day to take--and with or without food?
Avatar f tn Ever since a bike accident in May 2010, I experience pain in my right arm when swallowing hot and spicy foods and drinks. The pain starts when the food or fluid runs deep down my throat, in between the collar bone. The pain is not felt in my throat. The pain starts in the back shoulder area and radiates to the back of my upper right arm. It feels like a nerve pain and it lasts several seconds. I feel the pain as long as I'm eating or drinking.

Avatar m tn and if you don't feel an improvement or get worrying symptoms, then you can request an Endoscopy to be done, in-office or out-patient basis. With the Endoscopy your GI Doc can check for Hiatal Hernia, Barrets or Gastritis or narrowing, etc. All the best, and let me know how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I advise you to ask for copies of reports of all the tests that they made, in particular echos and blood tests, minimize your sodium intake (read carefully all labels of processed food), tell your cardiologist about ALL medicines and supplements that you take since many common medicines (like ibuprofen or omeprazole ) can aggravate HF or interact with its medication, and of course, follow strictly his recommendations.
Avatar m tn formerly a light smoker and current social drinker I have been having the following symptoms for about a year now associated with alcohol intake, eating spicy food (or even seasoned with small amounts of pepper or garlic), and NSAIDs: - Gurgling/slight burning pain in the epigastric region lasting for up to 2 weeks after ingestion of alcohol/spicy foods/NSAIDs - Occasional reflux (no heartburn, however) - Symptoms are worst when hungry Additional info & history: - Pain usually starts wi
4876041 tn?1360374933 I've never vomited from it though, thank God. I feel nauseous most days but not to the point where I'm put off food or anything. I can eat just fine. This is really depressing me because it affects me nearly every day and all day. I just want to live normally again like I was years ago. :( To be honest, this whole problem started several years ago but it hasn't been bad at all until August last year. I'm confused and scared it's developed into esophageal/stomach cancer...
Avatar f tn i fear that you are meaning doritos, or cupcakes or prepared soups or some mysterious processed food, like bread FOOD INTOLERANCE/ALLERGIES/SENSITIVITY ARE MORE COMMON THAN MOST PEOPLE THINK. digestion is a fickle thing sometimes, a food that you could eat alone might make you sick combined with another. FIRST THING TO DO: try WHOLE foods seperately. as in eat just one fruit. or one vegetable, or rice, or beans, or meat. alone, separate from anything else.

Avatar n tn Now, I also have low thryroids and one of the symptoms of low thyroids is difficulty swallowing (food feels to big to go down, or sharp- as if the food was in the shape of a triangle and one of the points of the triangle would poke my throat and get stuck for a bit, until I force it down); difficulty in swallowing can be a sign of low thyroids, high thyroids, nodules in the throat, or other throat diseases; but, one way to diagnose thyroids is by checking the TSH AND FSH levels (the thyroid's
Avatar f tn It seems to have calmed down the problems with food coming back up my throat but I still am getting the heart palps and ALWAYS feel like I cant sit still now. I haven been checked/texted for everything I can imagine including vitamin B12 defiency and thyroid issues, ekgs etc and everything is great. I dont get it. Dr said its possible I could have hiatal hernia too. Do you know if these things could be related to pounding heart and constant restlesness??

Avatar f tn 3) To help control the stomach acid, one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them, or eat chocolate or spicy or greasy foods. 4) Also take some antacid but if the symptoms are severe, then you may need drugs like proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole after consulting your doctor. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Try raising the head end of your bed by at least two blocks and take your meals 2 hrs prior to bedtime.
