Omeprazole not working

Common Questions and Answers about Omeprazole not working

prilosec

1534233 tn?1523388856 I have had many tests on my heart over the past 10 months, all come back as normal. I do have occasional ventricular bigeminy. My doctor says the chest pains and burning sensations are probably gastric or maybe caused by anxiety. He prescribed omeprazole in July, I took 10 and saw no change although I did blame an attack of palpitations on them. I have started on Omeprazole again, for 4 days now (20 mg once a day).
709686 tn?1277432159 Esomeprazole (Nexium) is slightly different than omeprazole (Prilosec). But your body could react the same way. You could try a small amount and see. There are some combo otc drugs by Rolaids and others that have an antacid and famotidine (acid reducer). Those probably don't work as well.
Avatar m tn Maybe, or maybe the omeprazole has stopped working properly. (This is common.) You should go see a gastroenterologist about this and tell them that you're either refluxing or regurgitating and having breathing problems due to this.
Avatar m tn No, long term use of Omeprazole is not safe at all. It blocks the secretion of your stomach acid, and stomach acid has multiple functions in your body, none of which are working properly after Omeprazole kicks in.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm on my 12th week. I've been diagnosed before with GERD. Now due to the pregnancy, it seemed to worsen as I experience painful heartburns. My doctor recommends I take omeprazole along with antacids. I've been taking antacids because I know they don't bare side effects on pregnancy. I am not sure though with omeprazole. I'm scared. I am afraid it might harm the baby. Anyone here experienced the same?
Avatar n tn is omeprazole a nercotic pain killer? i know some medications that may b addicting so i thought i would double check..also i had seen that u can take in an i.v is this true and if so how?
Avatar f tn Glad the Zantac is working for you! Hopefully it will continue. If it quits working then switch off of the H2 Antagonist drugs (zantac, pepcid etc) and go to the PPI (omeprazole etc) as they are much stronger and instead of reducing stomach acid they turn it off altogether.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
Avatar m tn He prescribed omeprazole 40mg and I have not had any symptoms until this week. I want off the drug so I am watching what I eat, no late eating, losing weight, etc. It looks as if I will have to step up the pace a good bit. I am going to continue the omeprazole for a few months but was wondering if there is a particular optimum time to take the drug?
Avatar m tn I'm 22 and a third year uni student and suffering fro a stomach issue.it began in June 2014 after having too much alcohol. I was admitted to hospital because I was throwing up cooked blood due to acid. As time went by I gradually became worse after a night out in the end I couldn't consume more than 2 units or alcohol without excessive belching, nausea and sickness. After tests for helicobacter which were inconclusive I decided to stop drinking.
Avatar n tn I keep forgetting to take my omeprazole dr 20 mg 30 minutes before meals, can I take it after the meal.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am looking for some advice... some gastrointestinal or anyone who have similar experience. Normally I don’t eat much or sometimes nothing in morning except tea or I drink lots of lots of water... 6 months back evening 7pm I took Turkish coffee which I never drink before in my life... This gave me like heart attack... chest burning and it was so strong that I had to call my friend who took me to hospital... doctor after examining gave me PANTOPRAZOLE 20MG to use before breakfast...
Avatar m tn ve seen comments with all kinds of opinions comparing the effectiveness of different forms of Prilosec (generic name omeprazole). But that are usually prescription brand-vs-generic, or OTC (non-prescription) brand-vs-generic. What I am looking for is real-life experiences from people who have moved from PRILOSEC OTC to GENERIC RX OMEPRAZOLE, or vice versa. I've been taking PRILOSEC OTC (non-prescription) for quite awhile, after years on the original prescription brand Prilosec.
Avatar n tn I have finally found relief for the constipation that goes with this. I now take 2 omeprazole a day, 4 domperidone--a motility drug, and a Zantac before bed. I have tried ginger capsules and all kinds of natural supplements, plus tums, etc. Any suggestions? I have had a bezoar when digestion just stopped, gall bladder out--infection in that. I feel like I have morning sickness all the time!
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar n tn I've been on 100mg for 17 years. The past few months, not only does it not work but I am also developing caffeine sensitivity and tremors. Dose increase made it worse.
Avatar f tn I have hypothyroidism and I’m taking a lot of medication now these days I’ve been not feeling well for the past year at all. I was told by my endocrinologist the other day that every day I take omeprazole, my medication won’t help me much. We’re talking about vitamin D calcium magnesium my T3 and my T4 medication my Crestor so on and so forth. And it shows I mean I have aged 10 years in the last five. At any rate I wanted to know what the best way is to test stomach acid levels?
Avatar f tn No not yet i have an app in a couple of days
Avatar m tn I told my doctor and he recommended to try omeprazole (40 mg) for 30 days. I do not think that I have acid reflux, because my throat or esophagus does not hurt and there is no heart burn. All the pain is in the lower stomach. By stretching, or taking off elastic from undergarment, I can get relief from the pain. I thought the omeprazole was working, until recently when I had Taco Bell and my stomach hurt again. Doctor also said I could be lactose intolerant, but it is not set off by milk...
Avatar n tn I had an EGD for my acid reflux and after fasting all night, I still had food in my stomach. My doctor ordered a "stomach emptying" test that lasted 4 hours. After 4 hours, I still had food in my stomach, but I don't know how much. I'm waiting for my doctor to call. I don't have the usual symptoms (nausea, vomiting, weight loss). In fact I have no symptoms at all. I take Omeprazole for acid reflux/hiatal hernia, and I take Synthroid for hypothyroidism.
Avatar m tn Miralax (or the store brand) is very good - use a dose every day or even twice a day until the bowels are working well, then cut back. It is not gritty like the fiber supplements, and generally works without causing cramping.
