Avatar m tn Women who do not have enough vitamin B12 in their blood before and after conception have a greater chance of having a baby with brain or spinal cord defects, a new study says. Most at risk may be vegans and vegetarians, since B12 is far more common in meat and animal-based foods, noted an American and Irish research team whose findings were published in the March issue of Pediatrics.. According to the study, women with low levels of B12 had at least 2.
Avatar f tn Who here has dealt with chronic low vitamin d and/or iron? (b12 not as worried about) Does anyone have any advice on testing I need to do, such as bone scans or density or softness tests etc? Anyone know of any information concerning CHILDREN with hypothyroidism and how it will effect the body if untreated into adulthood (which, sadly, is my case!)? I have seen multiple cases of people with thyroid disorders, usually hashimotos, that have issues taking vitamin d.

Avatar n tn Omeprazole related Vit B12 deficiency is usually seen in people with poor dietary intake of vitamin B12, poor vitamin B12 stores, and certain gastrointestinal disorders. So if you also have IBS or malabsorption syndromes or pernicious anemia, then it is a possibility. Liver, beef, fortified cereals, chicken, egg etc are good sources of Vit B12. Also just two months on Omeprazole cannot reduce Vit B12 substantially. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn The first few things to be ruled out are iron, vitamin C and B12 deficiency. Then it can be an allergic reaction to something you eat or your tooth paste. It can also be acid blisters due to a bad gastric reflux. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. See if this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar m tn Your problems can be a combination of bad gastric reflux and vitamin B 12 or electrolyte deficiency. Hence, it is important to get serum electrolytes and vitamin B12 levels checked. The gastric reflux can cause chemical burn of the tongue caused by acid from the stomach. The symptoms could be exacerbation of the GERD or gastric reflux. It could also be hiatal hernia. Treatment is a combination of drugs to reduce the acid and lifestyle changes.

No meds for this as it's only slightly enlarged 3.
Avatar n tn I do know that GERD medicatons tend to cause malabsorbtion problems and b12 is a water soluble vitamin and the stores we have tend to get used up pretty quickly when you don't absorb. Dieting can also lead to quicker depletion. With thyroid problems the vitamin d is usually low as well.

Avatar m tn All that has shown up for me is the gallstones, some mild colon inflammation on a CT scan and some larger than normal lymph nodes in the retroperitoneum and some vitamin deficiencies mild vitamin d and b12 and a very moderately severe phosphorus deficiency. Anyway, thanks for the helpful comments. I'm still debating having my gallbladder removed and I am going to have a HIDA scan soon -- the gallstones were found on the ultrasound, but the gallbladder itself did not seem to be too inflamed.
Avatar f tn My co-workers have suggested anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, varicose veins, and gluten intolerance. After my endoscopy I was diagnosed with esophagitis from eating something I'm allergic to. On July 1st ill be seeing an allergist to help with that. I'm just not understanding the chest pain, especially since I've never had it before. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them?
Avatar f tn But I’m still stuttering and my back and legs are still hurting. They sent me home with 5 new meds and I really don’t have any faith in them because I was taking them while I was there and felt nothing. They also still haven’t told me what type of MS I have. The only good thing or weird thing that happened while I was there was that they said that they didn’t think I was diabetic. That’s right they said not diabetic.
Avatar m tn Tingling, burning or itching of tongue is usually due to vitamin B12 deficiency. Low intrinsic factor in gut that hampers absorption of B12 and causes pernicious anemia is the commonest cause. If this is so the increasing intake of B12 will not help, and you will need to take Vitamin B12 injections at regular frequency as prescribed by your doctor. Other causes are parasites in the gut, diet poor in Vit B12, Crohn;s disease, IBS, or poor metabolism by liver are the causes behind it.

I have had stomach issues my entire life...if it's not one thing, it's another. I have very low immunity. I had my gall bladder removed around labor day of 2008.

Taking calcium and vitamin D without magnesium is not recommended as this can lead to a magnesium deficiency state. Magnesium deficiency is also very common with MVP and magnesium supplementation is found to improve MVP symptoms. Excerpt from "How your antacid drug is making you sick (Part A) by Chris Kresser...
Avatar m tn So I was thinking maybe it's a B12 deficiency. However, I had B12 ran on my blood and it came back good. My doc is running MMA acid and Thyroid tests on me that I'm currently waiting on. I notice that if I don't think about it or am distracted, it doesn't bother me. The minute I start to think about it, it worsens. I have pretty bad health anxiety, so this definitely isn't helping matters. I don't present any other symptoms. I sleep well. I'm not fatigued. No other pains. I'm at a loss.
Avatar m tn It hasn't been working and the twitching (symptom of B12 deficiency) has been increasing. Now it's about 80% better. The swelling and pain in my hands is gone!! ... Yes, gone!! Swelling and pain of extremities is a side effect of PPI. I think we are just beginning to see the long term effects of PPIs. I hope our Health Care Providers get up to speed soon. Thanks Again.... we apparently solved some pain issues on our own.

Avatar n tn B12 and Iron Deficiency Medical studies suggest that some of the medicines used in the treatment of GERD can result in vitamin B12 and iron deficiency. According to the NIH's Office of Dietary Supplements, proton-pump inhibitors, like omeprazole and lansoprazole, can inhibit B12 absorption, since stomach acid is necessary for the absorption of this nutrient. They recommend monitoring of B12 levels in people taking proton-pump inhibitors for prolonged periods of time.

Avatar n tn I eat a balanced and generally healthy diet and am sure that I am getting the required vitamins and minerals from my diet, I do however take a multi vitamin and mineral supplement in case I do have some deficiency. I also have courses or intramuscular Vitamin B12 and B Complex injections from time to time. I have tried cutting out various diet/drink items for a period to see if the symptoms go, but no change has been noticed.
Avatar n tn Maybe it wouldn't hurt to see your doctor, be sure to ask for an iron and B12 blood test, as I was misdiagnosed as having depression and put on Prozac before I went to see another doctor who did the blood test.
Avatar m tn This generally occurs with pathologies involving the cervical or lumbar spinal cord, but is not specific to cause, usually occurs in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy, multiple sclerosis, radiation myelopathy, and vitamin B12 deficiency. You may need to undergo CT of cevical spine to rule out the pathology. Meantime you can take vitamin B 12 supplements. I suggest you to consult orthopedician. Take care and regards.

Avatar m tn I'm overweight, take a daily prescribed regimen of baby aspirin, multi-vitamin, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin D, and 6mg warfarin. I'm a lymphoma cancer survivor (2 years beyond chemo), don't smoke, drink alcohol only occasionally in moderation and even less caffeine, exercise somewhat irregularly, had lots of ear aches as a child associated with bronchitis but because I'm 61 now I don't think my childhood ear aches have anything to do with it.
Avatar f tn This should help with the throat, ear and other symptoms, which could be due to acid reflux. Vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiency should be looked into. You should also tes for H pylori infection of the gut. You could be having subclinical hypothyroidism. In such a setting, Hashimotos’s thyroiditis should be tested for which is an autoimmune disorder. However in 10-15% cases of Hashimotos the test comes back normal.
6949699 tn?1386479577 Apparently Celiac disease can make the gallbladder fail. I had huge stones. I was anemic and had vitamin D deficiency. My surgeon gave me B12 shots and I had to get on iron and vitamin D and stay on them. Get tested for Celiac disease. Stopping gluten and taking the supplements got my weight up slowly, but I didn't realize I needed to take the iron for years, so I stopped it prematurely.
Avatar n tn Along with it is important to avoid spicy food for some days to give the tongue the time to heal. The other possibility is iron and vitamin B12 deficiency. Taking a multivitamin pill with these two components may help restore the deficiency and allow the tongue and mouth to heal. If all these steps do not help your wife, then please take her to a doctor. Take care!
