581954 tn?1223391496 Is it possible for this to be a side effect from Omeprazole? And how long does it take to get out of your system? I have heard it could take 3 months and I have heard it won't take longer than a week??
Avatar m tn Hey Guys, So last week I developed tingling/burning in my right leg that spread to my foot and then to my arms, hands, other leg, shoulders, and face/head...all within 24 hours. It's been about a week and now I feel it mostly in my legs (the front of my legs mostly), the top of my forearms, back of my upper arms, and my cheeks. It's like a burning type sensation. I've had something similar at the beginning of that year that lasted a couple of months.
1364792 tn?1278051187 If you think you might have acid reflux and your doctor gave you omeprazole to take and you take it but dont actually have acid reflux would that hurt you or just do nothing?
Avatar f tn I was recently tested (blood drawn) for celiac and I had been on daily omeprazole for 9 months. My test came back negative, but my doc never mentioned stopping omeprazole. of course my doc also 'forgot' that she prescribed omeprazole for me in the first place and tried to prescribe it again.
Avatar f tn The first few things to be ruled out are iron, vitamin C and B12 deficiency. Then it can be an allergic reaction to something you eat or your tooth paste. It can also be acid blisters due to a bad gastric reflux. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. See if this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar f tn Omeprazole lowers stomach acid essential for absorption of nutrients. The number of nutrient deficiencies that list fatigue as a symptom are numerous but include iron, vitamin B12, and magnesium. The newest warning out for PPI's like omeprazole is magnesium deficiency. Studies found deficiency within 1 year of taking the drug however a few showed deficiency within 3 months.
Avatar f tn When doing some reading it came up that a vitamin b-12 defiency (leading to anemia) can be caused by taking omeprazole long term... I have taken omeprazole 20mg 1x a day for over a year as a preventative measure since I take so much indomethacin (I don't have GERD) So.... could I be vitamin b-12 deficient due to taking omeprazole?? I also read that b-12 deficiencies can cause canker sores... which I have begun to have again (I haven't had one for four years) Anyways...
Avatar n tn I do know someone who took it twice a day for a long period of time. She told me the lining of the small intestine was damaged. One other thing to keep in mind is malabsorption issues. It's something you'll want to consider with your supplement schedules. For instance, during the periods of time when I find it necessary to take the PPI short term for the GERD, I keep this in mind when I'm taking my B12 supplements. B12 is very important, because the stomach processes B12.
Avatar n tn It seems that extended use is supposedly not harmful to the body. I take a 20mg tablet daily and I can function fully and eat and drink absolutely anything as long as I have had the capsule. I soon know about it if I forget to take it! That seldom happens I assure you. My question is: I have at least one bowel movement daily - usually after I get up in the morning. My stools are always loose and certainly smell very bad (so my wife assures me!).
Avatar m tn You will need to take a combination of medications (under medical supervision) like a proton pump inhibitor such as omeprazole, lansoprazole or pantoprazole empty stomach in the morning and an antacid gel after meals or H-2 blocker such as ranitidine for complete relief. Possibility of H pylori infection too should be looked into by a carbon urea breath test and a combination antibiotic tried.
Avatar m tn Best treatment option is Triple therapy while prescription require little modifications like change in Antibiotics depending on drug sensitivity,Change in PPI-omeprazole to Rabeprazole or Esmoprazole or Lansoprazole), H2 antagonists-Cimetidine or Famotidine or Ranitidine,Adjustment in combinations of antacids with colic medications and Vitamin B12,dietary modifications, observation of symptoms and regular follow up,which may vary depending on observation with the Attending Physician.
Avatar m tn Take a diet rich in Vit B12 which should include meat and animal products, cheese, such as beef, liver, salmon, cod, and eggs. Take B12 supplements and breakfast cereals fortified with vitamin B12. Finding the cause is important. Other possibility is an acid reflux. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. See if this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
1210142 tn?1266077031 Was on Plavix and Omeprazole for quite a while. Eventually went off Plavix and kept Omeprazole. LAD blocked again in 2013, and a DES was placed inside the other stents. These occluded again this past November and I had a double bypass (LAD plus RCA). The RCA veinous graft collapsed this month and a DES was placed last week. Sooo, I am back on Plavix and Omeprazole. Thinking of maybe changing to Pantoprazole or just stopping PPI altogether.
Avatar m tn I woke up 15 years ago with lower back pain. It hurts when I move a certain way. I can live with that. I woke up 10 years ago with knee pain. Neither have changed. No better or worse. Exercise, diet, Cordisone and Hyaluronic injections acid, rubs, creams, fat stem cell shots...Knee ex-rays show I do have medial bone on bone in knees and osteoarthritis (OA). I felt a bit like I had a brain fog so I got checked out for that. One test after another. MRIs and auto immune test.

Avatar n tn I do know that GERD medicatons tend to cause malabsorbtion problems and b12 is a water soluble vitamin and the stores we have tend to get used up pretty quickly when you don't absorb. Dieting can also lead to quicker depletion. With thyroid problems the vitamin d is usually low as well.
Avatar m tn s patients usually have low or no acid which makes me concerned about taking this. And I read about ensuring you space out when you take omeprazole. I also have low ferritin and was taking iron, which I saw online is contradicted. Does anyone have experience with taking this?
Avatar m tn I'm a 25 year old male, thin frame, who has always been active and in good health. This all started 10 months ago when I started to notice swollen lymph nodes in my neck. Aside from the swelling and occasional tenderness there were no other symptoms. On two occasions I ended up with cold sweats which caused me to see my doctor. I was referred to a surgeon who ultimately removed a lymph node to biopsy and rule out lymphoma.
1709162 tn?1314084832 I was given the triple course treatment ( amoxcillan clarythamacin and omeprazole, excuse spelling!) for a week which I finished 6 weeks ago.I was told to continue on the omeprazole 20mg once a day and am still taking them. I am taking a probiotic capsule every day for the past couple of months also. I am feeling worse than ever. I improved my diet do not drink cut out caffeine etc. Feel worse than ever have still got stomach pains bloated stomach burning in esophogus and diarrhoea every day.
Avatar m tn At first my wife had urinary infection, few weeks later she started to have fever and stomach problems, the docter told her it was a gastroenteritis. I bought her omeprazole and gave her amoxicilline, that worked. She felt fine, but few weeks later she had urinary infection symptoms again. The doctor gave her antibiotics again, that helped her.
Avatar m tn Following a valve replacement and triple bypass I was discharged from Hospital with a number of drugs and a new one being Omeprazole. I did not know why it was prescribed but after a number of months taking it I decided after discussion with my Doctor to stop taking it. A few months later through the night I got this terrible chest pain on a scale of 1-10 I guess it was 7-8.
Avatar f tn I have GERD and a hiatal hernia and have been taking omeprazole twice a day every day for a few months (I had been on Prevacid for several years before the omeprazole but insurance won't cover it any more). If your main symptom is burping, I would try going off of the omeprazole and switching to gas-x or some other type of gas relief medicine. As long as you aren't having a lot of problems with heartburn or acid reflux, you would probably be fine to discontinue using the omeprazole.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am taking omeprazole for laryngopharyngeal reflux for the past 2 days. I am supposed to take two pills daily, one before breakfast and one before dinner. Today, i started having this feeling that food is stuck in my chest and back of my throat but I don't have any problems swallowing. It is an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did not have this symptom prior to starting the drug. Is this a side effect of the drug?
