Common Questions and Answers about Omega 3 benefits omega 3 fish oil

omega-3

Avatar m tn Quite a complex topic this but at the same time an interesting one. Omega 3 isn't just one substance, Omega three are fatty acids just like Omega 6 fatty acids found in oils and meat etc. Omega 3 are EPA, DHA, and ALA . Some experts have said that the balance between Omega 6 fatty acids and Omega 3 is key, but just as many say this is nonsense. Omega 3 do have benefits, mainly reducing inflammation in the body, such as in the arteries or joints.
Avatar m tn Is it ok to take Omega 3 Fish Oil with an SSRI medication? I have read some places that the Fish Oil can help the effectiveness of the medication as well as help in other areas such as cardiovascular, cancer prevention, etc. Has anybody tried this? Does it work or is it all just here say? I have also read where it increased some peoples anxiety. Just wondering...
Avatar m tn Oh! I forgot, you would not burp the fish oil if you take the pill each time you eat something or after every meal, I have never had a problem with it.
Avatar m tn Researchers from Australia's Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital found that administering over-the-counter fish oil supplements to boost omega-3 levels helped premature baby girls score better on cognitive tests at 18 months of age. This benefit was not seen in premature boys, but the researchers believe that's because boys and girls have differing rates of development. Study leader Maria Makrides had 272 nursing mothers of premature children take six omega-3 supplement pills a day.
612551 tn?1450025775 It seems our friend the dog also benefits from a good dose of Omega 3, as sound in fish. We have our Westie on a sweet potato fish formula kibble and I wonder if it could be improved by breaking open a one human (the type we may take 3 or more of a day) fish oil capsule and drizzle it over the main kibble meal. Yes, I have read the advice on feeding some canned food too, and am working my way up to that.

Avatar m tn Regarding the quality of Omega-3 I am taking, I know that Consumer Reports did an evaluation of popular brands of Omega-3, but I've yet find that article. My Omega-3 was purchased at Sam's. Do any of the forum members have any info on this front?
403156 tn?1290153618 You can get the Omega 3 fatty acids from either flax seed or fish oil. Mine are fish oil (I do not get the fishy smell), but some prefer the other. Just google omega 3s, depression and ADD and you will find lots of information out there. But basically, they help your brain function better by giving it the much needed nutrients because our diets are usually lacking in them - unless you consume lots amounts of fish.
317787 tn?1473362051 Krill oil is a source of certain types of Omega 3 oils. There are different ones. Fish oil contains two types, and flax seed oil and hemp seed oil, for example, supply some as well. Now, I have a personal objection to krill oil, which is, krill are being killed off to get this oil and they are the food supply for most of what lives in the ocean, especially the larger creatures. Krill are tiny crustaceans and so it takes millions and millions of them to make some oil.
Avatar f tn I visited my local GNC store to purchase some Omega 3 Fish Oil supplement. I bought the triple strength, and then asked while paying for it what was the normal dosage? He and another employee said "1,000mg per day." When I arrived home their "triple strength" is only 900 mg??? I have bought others that have always been 1,000mg and that is what I have been taking. Can someone please help me with what is the proper dosage? Thanks.
Avatar f tn What brand of Omega 3's are you using? I have been taking just the Kroger brand Omega 3's with fish oil concentrate. Should I maybe look at the health food store for some that are especially for pregnancy? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Anyone has had any experience or heard more in depth knowledge with Omega-3 helping with Bipolar symptoms. From what I have read it mostly helps with mood swings. I'm trying to help my husband get well (of course he'll keep using Mood Stabilizer). But anything new that works and can bring about change/ better productive life.
Avatar n tn * oily fish, like mackerel, herring, sardines, anchovies, salmon, and pilchards * Omega 3 fish oil supplements * fresh or frozen tuna Omega-3 supplements are available but check to make sure that your supplements are not made from fish livers. The liver can contain high amounts of retinol vitamin A, which has been linked to birth defects. Omega-3 supplements not derived from fish livers but rather from the body of the fish are less likely to contain this type of vitamin A.
Avatar f tn What is true is that the Omega 3 in flax seed oil is different from that in fish oil, and flax seed oil contains more than just omega 3 oils, whereas most fish oil is artificially purified to eliminate many other beneficial oils that would also be a fish. Since you can get cold processed organically grown flax, whereas fish are contaminated pretty much everywhere now, and for vegetarians, flax is a good source of oil, but for a diabetic, fish oil probably would be a good choice.
Avatar f tn The most important for the heart is EFA, which is found in largest amounts in fish oil, but flax and hemp oil are also very high in omega 3 oils. But omega 3 oils don't do the same thing as statins. Statins lower LDL cholesterol, the bad kind, whereas omega 3 oils provide the good kind of cholesterol, HDL. If you raise HDL, that will be more preventive of future heart disease than lowering LDL unless you're LDL was sky high.
Avatar m tn I have the opposite effect with omega 3 from krill oil. It makes them tons worse. I take a tsp. of flax seed each day and blend them in a smoothie and that doesn't seem to bother me. What brand of plant based omega 3 do you use? After my bad experiences with krill oil, I'm kind of scared to take anything but whole flax seeds.
Avatar f tn i didn't really have any problems with it but they claim you don't get a fishy aftertaste from the fish oil but i kept burping up a fish taste. it was pretty bad. i finished up the bottle but never bought any more. hope this helps.
Avatar f tn After talking to this lady about being pregnant, she advised me to take fish oil and that it had great benefits for the baby and I. It helps the development of the babies brain. Has anyone else heard that too?
374933 tn?1291085384 If the complex means omega 3-6-9. stay away. Our diets our usually heavy on the omega 6's and low on the omega-3's. Taking Omega 3 is enough to set the balance straight. Omega 3's are a great supplement and can help inflammation, cholesterol, heart disease and in high enough doses- mood.
Avatar f tn Fish oil supplements are actually very good for you. Fish oil contains omega 3 which is really good for you. I usually have bought my fish oil capsules in a health food store. I haven't bought any in awhile though, but plan to again. Fish oil with omega 3 is supposed to be good against depression too. You don't taste the fish oil at all in case you're concerned about that. Fish oil is good for brain health because it helps against depression. To wrap up, fish oil does have good benefits.
Avatar f tn I searched on google for any articles discussing omega 3s and arrythmias and found one that indicated Afib can be exacerbated with omega 3 fish oil but it wasn't as conclusive for PVC/PAC/SVT. I'm curious if anyone else with arrythmias are taking omega 3 oils and if they found any pattern in their episodes.
Avatar f tn but, in our case, it causes digestive upset such as bloating and gas. So, I've replaced fish oil with flax seed oil and we do not experience the gas and bloating we had with fish oil. In my case, I feel much better on flax seed oil, emotionally as well as physically.
Avatar f tn Also Flax Seed Oil! These are great for anyone to take regularly. They have the Omega 3's we need, the good fat. It nurishes the brain, helps us to think better, more clearly, helps the skin, hair and joints. There are no bad side effects at all that I've ever heard of. Like I said, we all should take these. It's very good for you! I have a friend who was very into the natural things and had two boys who had ADHD.
Avatar n tn Fish Oil? Omega-3 fatty acids maybe? I see some research that suggests that the fatty acids MAY be beneficial for alzheimers and people with chronic fatigue syndrom. But note the use of the word "may." I find no FDA studies which say that fish oil had demonstrated a positive effect on people diagnosed with panic and axiety.
Avatar f tn I take either Carlson brand Super Omega 3 Fish Oil or the Trader Joe's Fish Oil. Carlson's can usually be found at a health food store. Trader Joe's is a lot less expensive though. I understand the sensitivity issue. Both of these brands are light on the stomach and the nose! HA!
Avatar n tn Now they are telling us that it may kill us. What the heck? I too take fish oil every day (that I remember). And if we used to get the Omega 3's from our food supply, then how is a fish oil tablet all that dramatically different than if we'd have gotten the Omega 3's from eating? Does the body treat Omega 3 from a pill differently than from food? If it is ultimately in the blood stream how can that be?????
Avatar f tn Sorry, forgot about the omega 7 oils. These are found in fish oil, along with the omega 3 oils, but in the process of isolating the oil the heat used will often kill them off. There's a new fish oil supplement by New Chapter that supposedly doesn't kill them off. As to their effectiveness for your vaginal health, I don't know. I do know that evening primrose oil is helpful for that, but again, have no idea if that will do anything to rid you of an infection.
