Avatar m tn If we switch him to olanzapine injections after he is completely stable since he is responding well to that drug, will the olanzapine injections also cause him weight gain? or the side effect of weight gain will not be seen in olanzapine injection?
Avatar n tn • the Tricyclic antidepressants such as Amitriptyline (Elavil), Imipramine (Tofranil), and Doxepin (Sinequan) • the Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as Tranylcypromine (Parnate), Isocarboxazid (Marplan) and Phenelzine (Nardil) • the Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Paroxetine (Paxil) • the atypical anti-depressants such as Mirtazapine (Remeron) and Trazodone.
Avatar f tn Yes and it worked well as a mood stabilizer/anti-psychotic but I had a severe problem with weight gain as did other people I know who have taken it and that's relatively common. However, it is an effective mood stabilizer though I know the most likely out of the anti-psychotics to cause this problem. It is definitely worth going back on medication though I might ask about something else.
Avatar n tn m guessing SSRIs may not be the best choice for you. I have no idea if the weight gain from divalproex and/or olanzapine will level out or just keep going. Wellbutrin causes weight loss in some people, unlike a lot of psych meds. It can also cause constipation. It's generally energizing, so it might be good if you're feeling low on energy (make sure to take it in the morning). I'm on Wellbutrin and Lamictal, and they're working pretty well.
Avatar n tn Both drugs cause similar side effects, but Olanzapine shows fewer motor function side effects than Resperidone in comaparative clinical trials. Both drugs have found to be equally safe on clinical trials. Both cause weight gain, but weight gain with Resperidone is lesser than that with Olanzapine. So once you start treatment, your doctor may adjust your prescription to a higher dose if the starting dose is not effective.
Avatar f tn Hi im desperatly in need to know of a good bipolar medication that doesnt make me gain weight, I was on olanzapine and I gained loads, then they put me on abilifyand I got 13 of the uncommon side effects, then they put me on sulpiride but they are similar to olanzapine, and all the time ive been on lamotrigine, but they dont seem to work as well on their own. At the mo ive stopped taking my meds and finding it hard, can anyone help please?
603015 tn?1329862973 Hi I have started to tapper off olanzapine because of the weight gain, I have noticed that after just a week on the reduced amount I have started to have sleep problems, I am finding it harder and harder to get to sleep, then when I do get to sleep I am waking through the night, could this be the reduction in the med and what should I do if anything, im not due to see me pdoc until 1 june when I would be fully off this med.
Avatar f tn The weight gain is very likely as the drug is an antagonist to histamine receptors and 5-HT. olanzapine is a thienobenzodiazepine and we know benzodiazepines can be stored into muscles and fats. Sinus tachycardia may be explainable by a simple result of increased anxiety due to the withdrawal, stress or other underlying medical conditions that should be ruled out with your doctor or specialist regarding that matter.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was on Olanzapine until recently, and that made me gain about forty pounds in a year. That was bad. Now, on Lamictal (still on Olanzapine as well as a buffer while I break into Lamictal), I have found that my appetite has decreased significantly. I was able to lose some weight, and hopefully will lose some more over the next few months with a healthy diet and the right exercise. I don't think its anything abnormal, but if you are concerned, please talk to your doctor about it.
Avatar n tn He said that it does not lead to weight gain, but when I checked online, some sites say it leads to weight gain and others to weight loss. Could you tell me what it is actually? Is it weight loss or weight gain?
698408 tn?1256958348 Both medications carry a risk of weight gain but if you know this in advance you can take steps to reduce this. The weight tends to be "water weight", so drinking plenty can help along with the normal steps of regular exercise and watching your diet.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder, but have been on the medication for it since 2009. I experienced a lot of weight gain (40 pounds) on this medication (olanzapine), and it just added to my depression and made me miserable and totally unconfident. Also, although I haven't experienced a full-blown manic episode in a while, my depressive episodes have become harder and harder to cope with.
Avatar m tn I have OCD, purely O, & OCD HIV oonly disease wise.
Avatar f tn I have just read that my medication can have weight gain associated with it. I am about 4 stone overweight. Will I still be able to lose weight whilst on this medication. I recently came off of Olanzapine because of the side effect.
Avatar f tn I have been to see pdoc today after having a bit of a wobble following 2 months off medication (did not go cold turkey, did it over 3 months). She has prescribed me Zyprexa but I am really scared about taking it, I really don't want to gain weight - I am still trying to lose the weight I gained on Depakote.
Avatar f tn Hello,`I am new at this soo.. i was diagnosed a yr ago and was put on effexor that didn't help, and serequel for racing thoughts. then my doc put me on wellbutrin xr that was ok for a couple of months but my depression has worsed tremendously and i am taking wellbutrin xr 200 mg, serequel 50mg, and clonapin. the wellbutrin has no effect on me at all and i was actually wondering about topamax. i have tried almost every antidepressent and nothing.
Avatar f tn i thought everything was alright until i started to gain weight i was 115 before i started then i raised up 149 pounds then i notice i was waking up at 3:30 and 4:30 am thats when i said i had enough i stop the zypreza lost the weight real fast and was not sleeping i mean , no sleep. i don't feel the sleepy feeling anymore i feel like i been up forever and ever.
1052851 tn?1307741160 I am wondering if there has been a drug similar, that can offer me relief, and not (or minimal), weight gain. It is causing me to get into a depressive state that I cant get out of, because I know dont have clothes that fit me, and I cant bear to look at myself...this is not good for me at all. If you know of/or heard of another medication that may help me without the weight gain! I would really appreciate it.
Avatar f tn aripripazole (abilify) and ziprasidone (geodon) are 2 other atypical antipsychotics like your olanzapine (zyprexa). nobody neither your pdoc can tell their effect on you, it's all trial and error everybody manifests different effect and side effect. he/she only prescribed them to you because they don't make you put on weight gain contrary to zyprexa, that's all.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was on olanzapine my dose was anywhere between 5mg and 12.5mg. I felt a lot better on seroquel after the transition period. I find I am not as drowsy and my appetite isn't as strong, meaning that I am not gaining as much weight. Olanzapine is good for crisis but day to day I find seroquel suits me better, hooe it goes well for you too!
Avatar m tn I was on Ziprexa for a few months for bipolar and had to stop because of the weight gain. Couldn't handle it. I've heard it works well for some though.

Avatar n tn Is it the actual increase in hunger that causes weight gain or the tablet itself? I am quite worried about this as my body image issues make me scared about putting on weight..
638830 tn?1222980691 If a person has an underactive thyroid is it certain they will gain weight? Obviously they need to be careful what they eat and exercise but does it make it more difficult to maintain? Especially when pregnant??? I apologize if this seems like a vain question, I'm just curious. If it does make it more difficult, what can you do, diet wise to prevent excessive weight gain and stay healthy?
603015 tn?1329862973 I know when I see my doctor on monday he is going to suggest Seroquel, I am scared to take this drug as I dont want any weight gain, I have already put heaps on, since using Olanzapine and do not want to add anymore, I have tried Lithium ( gave me the tremor and did little for my stability ) Epilim ( done nothing for depression ) Olanzapine ( worked at 20mg for a while but put heaps of weight on and still had depression ) Lamotrigine ( flipped my mood worked really well but developed the potenti
