Avatar n tn s disease last October. My question is regarding metabolic syndrome, this is what my endo diagnosed me with on Thursday. I have been a mess for a year, blameing everything on thyroid and it wasn't until I saw my endo, that maybe i'm looking at something entirely different. I have excessive weight gain and am very overweight, I have elevated blood sugar, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.
Avatar f tn I have been taking medication over the years for bipolar disorder and I have recently been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. I have taken thyroid tests and all of them have been normal with a heightened testosterone level. What is the link between testosterone, metabolism, and insulin? Does metrofomin have a lot to do with weight loss and metabolism and thyroid issues?

Avatar f tn The men were as likely as the women to become depressed with marital strain, but the link between negativity, depression and metabolic syndrome only applied to women, she said. The depression in women accounted for the metabolic syndrome, she said. Exactly why isn't known, but Henry speculated that women may take the negativity more to heart and ruminate about it more than men. Henry can't say specifically how much risk of metabolic syndrome is attributed to the negativity.
Avatar m tn Metabolic syndrome is a group of health problems which are often found together in people who are obese. The combined effect of these can lead to serious health conditions, like diabetes, stroke or heart disease. Metabolic syndrome includes: •obesity – particularly increased fat around the belly •high blood pressure •high fasting glucose levels in the blood •high fat levels in the blood (triglycerides) •low levels of good cholesterol in the blood (HDL).

Avatar f tn I was put on olanzapine an anti phycotic on top of my fluvoxamine meleate 200mg for deap depression after and home invasion. While the olanzaoine was helpful with my depression i think it was also causing leg pain. the longer I took it for the worse the pain got and more pain meds I needed to take to get threw my day to just walk. Avatar f tn While I have not taken it, I know that a good deal of the antipsychotics out there, including olanzapine, can cause sedation. Antipsychotics can also be activating where they will cause insomnia if you take them before falling asleep. I'm sure there are people here who have taken it and experienced sedation.
Avatar m tn But high triglycerides can raise your risk of heart disease and may be a sign of metabolic syndrome. For some insight on metabolic syndrome it is the involves and includes high blood pressure, high blood sugar, too much fat around the waist, low HDL ("good") cholesterol, and high triglycerides. Metabolic syndrome increases your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

Avatar n tn Both Olanzapine and Resperidone are atypical antipsychotics. So, basically, you will be taking the same class of antipsychotics. Resperidone is however a very potent antipsychotic. The response to treatment has been found to be more stable with Resperidone, so that’s a plus point with this drug. Both drugs cause similar side effects, but Olanzapine shows fewer motor function side effects than Resperidone in comaparative clinical trials.
Avatar f tn First of all, it sounds like you need some blood tests and likely a med change, stat. Abilify is weight neutral for most people, but it can cause metabolic syndrome. Your blood pressure rise and weight gain are bad signs, and you should at the very least get your lipids and sugars checked, and probably your thyroid for good measure. Also, SSRIs have a chance of causing weight gain, and they're well known to destabilize people with bipolar.

Than after 2-3 months the doctor put me on 7mg, and now I'm on 5 mg olanzapine. It was harder to cope with rest of the world the first few mounts. I didn''t want to do the things I wanted, It was hard to cope with my previous social life, I felt like I have nothing to talk to my friends, like my brain is empty, like I'm brain washed.
603015 tn?1329862973 Hi I have started to tapper off olanzapine because of the weight gain, I have noticed that after just a week on the reduced amount I have started to have sleep problems, I am finding it harder and harder to get to sleep, then when I do get to sleep I am waking through the night, could this be the reduction in the med and what should I do if anything, im not due to see me pdoc until 1 june when I would be fully off this med.
Avatar m tn It's unlikely that you're moving toward menopause. It's more likely to be an endocrine or metabolic disorder such as a thyroid, pituitary, or adrenal problem or even something like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). You should see a doctor for a workup. Best of luck to you!
